If you’re looking to upgrade your old smartphone soon and don’t fancy a traditional black handset, then we may just have some exciting news for you. It looks like Vodafone UK customers will soon be able to get their hands on a white edition of the BlackBerry Torch 9800.

According to a recent article over at phonearena.com (sourced from unwiredview.com), a white version of the BlackBerry Torch has recently been listed on Vodafone UK’s website as “coming soon.” This is probably great news for those of you who have given up hope of ever getting a white iPhone 4.

Although there was no specific launch date mentioned, it looks like the handset will be offered to Vodafone’s Pay Monthly customers. Vodafone UK will become the second carrier in the world to offer the white BlackBerry Torch 9800, with the other carrier being Rogers in Canada.

As Andrew over at fonehome.co.uk recently noted, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 – which runs on the BlackBerry OS 6 – features a QWERTY keyboard, a super-responsive capacitive touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera and a 624MHz processor.

Are you a Vodafone UK customer who would be interested in the white edition of the BlackBerry Torch 9800?

Two weeks ago we revealed white BlackBerry Torch 9800, now we can confirm that this handset along with the white BlackBerry Bold 9780 are coming to Rogers.

We know this because dummy units have recently arrived at Rogers stores, at the moment no release date has been confirmed, but we do know that it will arrive before the white iPhone 4.

As for pricing, we would imagine that there will be no difference from the black versions, currently when you buy the Torch 9800 from the Rogers website (here) it costs $229.99, whilst the Bold 9780 costs just $149.99 (here).

We have embedded an image below showing you the white Bold 9780 and Torch 9800, personally I prefer the standard black versions, do you?

If you haven’t been completely satisfied with the BlackBerry Torch 9800‘s software we have some good news for you, RIM has been working on an updated version of BlackBerry 6 and it is now available for download.

The update will bring your Torch to software version (v6.0.0.695), from what we can see the list of improvements is seemingly never-ending, meaning it is well worth installing.

Once installed you should notice faster page loading when using the browser, also panning in the browser should be a lot smoother. Other improvements are said to include increased responsiveness after unlocking the handset, faster app launching, exiting and switching, improved audio quality, faster thumbnail rendering and much more.

The list goes on, if you would like to find out more check out Engadet’s article which features a full breakdown of the vast improvements.

The update will be rolled out over the next week and a half, however if you cannot wait check out the AT&T website or the RIM website to download it, it is just over 160MB in size.

Have you installed firmware version v6.0.0.695 on your BlackBerry Torch 9800? If so, are the changes as good as they sound?

If the BlackBerry Torch wasn’t good enough in it’s standard color, we now have some exciting news for those of you looking for a new handset. Some fresh details has confirmed that the BlackBerry Torch will be landing on AT&T with three brand new colors.

As reported from Engadget, AT&T is rumored to be releasing the popular BlackBerry Touch sometime during November, and as an added incentive over other carriers, you’ll have three snazzy-looking colors to choose from.

As you can see from the picture below, the three colors are Red and Black, White and Olive Green – although there isn’t a picture of the Olive Green model yet sadly.

What are your thoughts on the new models – personally, I think they look great. It’s about time RIM got some stylish phones to keep up with the likes of HTC and Apple.

If you live in the U.S. you may already have your hands on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, however up until now UK residents have not heard anything in terms of a release date or price.

Well, we now have some news for you, some of it good and some of it bad. The good news is that Expansys has the OS 6 based device on their website, with a release date of October 1st, the bad news is that it is expensive.

If you want to buy the Torch 9800 from eXpansys it has a SIM free price of £569.99, PhonesReview point out that the impressive Samsung Galaxy S is available from eXpansys for just £439.99.

It could be that this price changes when carriers begin offering the Torch, obviously carriers will offer the handset a greatly subsidized price as part of a contract, which could perhaps drive SIM free prices lower.

Do you think the price is too expensive? If not order yours here.

Thinking of upgrading to the BlackBerry Torch 9800? If so, you may be interested to see how good it really is, if so you should seriously consider checking out IntoMobile’s fully detailed review which can be found here.

In this article we will highlight some of the main points raised, on the whole it seems as if the Torch 9800 is a success story, however it is far from flawless.

Let’s start with the hardware, the sliding keyboard mechanism is said to be smooth and solid, also it is said to combine some of the great design ideas seen in previous BlackBerrys such as the Strom 2. The physical QWERTY keyboard is said be well-design, but takes a bit of getting used to, also the virtual QWERTY keyboard is said to be sharp and responsive.

In terms of software OS 6.0 is said to be a huge improvement, that said it will have a similar look and feel to other OS versions, which mean previous BlackBerry owners should feel right at home. As you would expect OS 6.0 is not completely perfect, there is said to be a delay when using gestures, that said features such as universal search and social feeds are great.

Web browsing with the 9800′s Webkit browser is said to be a vast improvement when compared to previous BlackBerry experiences, but is not as quick as Android 2.2 devices and page rendering can be slow.

In terms of multimedia the Torch 9800 is adequate but not amazing, there are said to be improvements to the music player, picture gallery and video player. Images and videos don’t look as sharp as they would on other devices, however this is due to its 480 x 360 resolution, which sounds poor but is great for battery life.

If you are buying a BlackBerry you probably are not wanting a great smartphone for photos, therefore you probably don’t have high hopes from the Torch 9800′s camera, your expectations are correct as the camera isn’t great, especially if you are using it in low-light conditions, you can see sample photos here and here.

All in all the BlackBerry Torch 9800 seems to be a worthy upgrade for any BlackBerry owner, that said if you want a rich multimedia experience you may want an Android or iOS 4 based smartphone instead.

RIM may just have chosen the wrong time to announce their new flagship phone — the BlackBerry Torch 9800. This is due to the bad press circling the banning and monitoring of BlackBerry Messenger and a report that states Android is now ahead of BlackBerry in smartphone sales.

It seems as though the popularity of the BlackBerry is taking a huge slump since the rise of the Android OS, and also faces huge competition from Apple and the iPhone 4.

NPD’s consumer tracking program said that this is the first quarter since Q4 2007 that the BlackBerry has fallen from first place, and is now behind Android with Apple trailing them both.

This is the first time BlackBerry has been overtaken, and maybe the only other reason that Apple didn’t do so before, was due to having the exclusive partnership with AT&T.

Either way, it does not look like BlackBerry’s new phone will sway much decision in the smartphone world.

The Torch’s hardware specifications are not exactly groundbreaking. The only major difference is the pixel count for the camera. Everything else, except obvious screen and resolution changes are the same.

On top of all the bad news surrounding RIM’s future as a number one competitor, more and more competition seems to be getting involved. Windows Phone 7 is due to be coming sometime in the future, and we can only guess what Apple and Android are going to do next. RIM however, do not seem to have pushed many boundaries with BlackBerry OS 6.

Apps are where it’s at, and with just around 6,500 for the BlackBerry compared to that of 100,000 for Android and 250,000 for Apple, it seems that support for the BlackBerry is dwindling.

I own a BlackBerry Bold 9700 myself, and I can tell you that I am disappointed with the amount of apps available (or not available) for the phone. Sometimes I wish I had just gone for the iPhone or Android option instead.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the phone. I enjoy using BBM to contact my friends, but I can not help but think… what if?

Do you own a BlackBerry and wish you got an iPhone or Android handset instead? How do you feel about the future of RIM and the BlackBerry?
