We have some good news for those of you planning to pick up the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet next year, as we are hearing of a potential release date in March, if covert information from RIM is to be believed.

As reported from Engadget, RIM recently made their earnings call for the 3rd Quarter this week, and during the call, a RIM spokeswoman confirmed that the Playbook will be out during the company’s first quarter of the calendar year in 2011.

Engadget has pointed out that this period doesn’t begin until March, and this is the first time that a potential launch month has been mentioned, previously all we had to go on is that it would be released sometime during the first quarter.

The details may be slightly confusing, but until we hear otherwise – you should assume that the Playbook will release during March – so start saving those dollars.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Playbook? Has RIM’s brief unveilings given you enough to make it a certain buy in March, or are you still debating whether or not it matches up to the iPad? You can check out a useful browser comparison video with the iPad here.

For those of you who are interested in picking up the impressive-looking BlackBerry Playbook tablet from RIM next year, we have a pretty cool video for you to check out which gives you another glance at the BlackBerry Tablet OS and some of it’s capabilities.

The video comes to you courtesy of Engadget, who were able to shoot a brief-hands on video of the device with RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie. While we would have liked the video to be a bit more longer in length, we were definitely satisified seeing some of the multitasking features being touted on screen.

During the video we get a glimpse of the OS being able to handle various applications on the go, including running a BBC video in the background, which continues to run when you minimize it on the homepage. You’ll also see how applications are closed using a ‘flicking’ gesture, and a quick look at the on board camera with portrait mode.

It does look very slick indeed, and the more we see it, the more we think it is going to be another good contender to the Apple iPad. Check it out below and let us know your thoughts on the clip. Are you impressed with the Playbook so far?

Don’t forget about a pricing and release date update here.

For those of you who are still undecided on whether or not to pick up the BlackBerry Playbook tablet next year, RIM and Adobe has released a new video, showing off the tablet in a live unseen stage demo.

As reported from Engadget, the 5-minute segment shows RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis and Adobe’s Kevin Lynch showing off some of the Playbook’s new features at Adobe MAX yesterday.

Engadget point out that the video seems to have been carefully edited, which may have removed some uncomfortable performance issues on the Playbook, but since the device isn’t due out until early next year, it gives RIM and their team plenty of time to fix it up ready for public release.

Following on from this demo release, a new report by the Financial Post has revealed that RIM’s shares have increased in the space of a few hours – you can read more on this in their article above.

What are your thoughts on the Playbook? Is it a day-one purchase for you, or are you still undecided? Video is below.

Today was a great start for the 2010 RIM DevCon event, not only did they announce some new products for their smartphones, but also the much anticipated BlackBerry tablet. The new device is called the PlayBook and will run on a new BlackBerry Tablet OS, which is built on the successful platform by QNX.

We now know that the PlayBook will be released in early 2011 for the US market, but developers can register early for the upcoming BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK, due in the next few weeks or so. For those who are interested then visit blackberry.com/developers/tabletos, where you will be offered much more information, as well as a link to a form to register your interest.

You will be asked to fill out your personal details along with the name of your organization.

The new BlackBerry Tablet OS has a number of key features, such as Multi-threaded POSIX, making the OS ideal for true multitasking. The operating system has also been developed with speed in mind; add that to the 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, and you will have one smooth and fast performing tablet device.

Do you think that RIM has it right with the OS on the PlayBook?
