A few hours ago we discussed how RIM confirmed that BlackBerry 7 OS was to be officially unveiled today along with new devices. Well Verizon seems to have gotten a little over exited, as they have outed the BlackBerry Bold 9930 (Touch) on their website. It was done by mistake, as it appears when you click on the link for “Explore features” for the 9650 instead.

Not certain how long the video will stay up for, so lets see what they have to say about the Bold Touch. The guy in the video says that it is now available from Verizon Wireless, which has been designed with the style and sophistication that we know and love from BlackBerry. This is their thinnest handset yet, and there is no compromise in performance.

The QWERTY keyboard is the largest yet for a BlackBerry device, which will work in unison with its 2.8-inch touch screen. The scrolling is smooth and fast thanks to liquid graphics. Included is 8GB of memory, but can be expanded to 32GB. The 1.2GHz processor is more than up to the task, but not certain how it will fair if put side-by-side with the Droid Bionic?

Everything is faster with the new Bold Touch, which is something that BlackBerry users have been waiting for. There is nothing worse than being in a meeting while using your BlackBerry handset and the thing decides to slow up on you. This should not be a problem with the 9930, but we have heard that before right?

The video also confirms that this new handset from RIM is to use the latest version of BlackBerry 7 OS, so will come with the best version of their email yet. Using the browser could not be simpler, as you can either use the optical trackpad or the touch screen, depending on what is easier for you. The Voice Activated search is another feature that will help the new Bold to stand out against other handsets currently on the market, especially the iPhone 4, as we know that the voice activation on there is shocking.

Messenger 6 has been improved, so much so that iOS 5 even wants to mimic its features. The camera has been improved, so you now get a 5-megapixel shooter with a flash and auto focus. If you are looking for a great travel companion then the Bold 9930 is it, well that’s what Verizon would have us believe. We have to wonder if the person who made the mistake by putting this video on the Verizon website will still have a job at the end of the day?

Video thanks to Engadget.

While visiting BlackBerry’s Facebook page we were surprised to see that they have something planned for today, we have some ideas and maybe something official as well. RIM has not given any other details, except it will be shiny, new, and social all over.” Now there’s already confirmation that it will be BlackBerry OS 7, but what else, maybe the Bold Touch 9900/9930 or the new Torch 2 – maybe even three if we are lucky.

This could be perfect timing for RIM, as Apple is about to launch iOS 5 in just over a months time, but we do fear that it could get lost once the iPhone 5 strolls into town? Do not get us wrong BlackBerry 7 OS looks set to be awesome, but RIM are struggling to shine through this tough period. Who knows, maybe the release of these two new handsets will be able to kick start things off once again – although that does not help the thousands of workers who are set to be laid off?

The Facebook page where we got this news from does not give away any clues, but good old Twitter does. While looking through some of the tweets we can see that a few have been trying to guess what is coming, and we can see that Research in Motion has confirmed that there are new handsets coming today, and they will be running BlackBerry 7.

There have been a number of guesses going on following what was put up on the BlackBerry Facebook page, and were shocked that RIM answered back on Twitter saying, “You got it! New #BlackBerry devices are coming w/ our new OS, BlackBerry 7!” Now we do not know about you, but this looks like confirmation to us?

OK, so you would have seen that there is no mention of the new Bold Touch or Torch 2, but we know that they are coming, so today would be the ideal time – talk about pulling a surprise on us. Normally we have a few days/weeks notice when such an event is taking place, but one day does not give us enough time to do some digging.

There seems to be a lot riding on the success of the Bold Touch, maybe too much just for one handset. You look at any phone maker and they all have a flagship model, such as Samsung with their Galaxy S II and Motorola with the upcoming Droid Bionic. So the Bold 9900/9930 will be RIM’s flagship, but does it have what it takes to turn things around? As for the Torch 2, the jury is still out on this one, because the first Torch was more of a candle flickering in the wind rather than a bright light trying to see the end of that dark tunnel.

RIM seems to have stepped things up in the Touchscreen department, which is evident from the upcoming BlackBerry Bold Touch 9930. You can now see a 360 degree view of the new handset from three videos that have recently been made available, which you can see for yourself below.

Some of you may have thought that RIM might have given up on the idea of Touch, as they cannot seem to get things right, but its as if they want to keep pursuing it. You can clearly see from the videos that there are still a few issues with the touch interface – so RIM still has some work to do before they get things right.

Having said that, we still do not see that BlackBerry Bold fans will take to Touch with the 9930, only time will tell? Although, why would you want both touch and an optical trackpad, which Research In Motion are still sticking with? It’s as if they know that most users will not want to use the touchscreen, so have provided them with a preferred solution.

We know that the company has it in them to produce a device with touchscreen capabilities – you only have to look at the BlackBerry PlayBook, which will be top dog when it comes to business. We just cannot understand why they cannot get it to work that well on a smartphone rather than a tablet device?

Do you think that the BlackBerry Bold Touch will prove a hit for RIM?
