Most of the new handset news in recent weeks has focused on the latest Android smartphones being made available in the coming weeks. But what us a good thing for is consumers is that there is plenty of choice for most tastes and budgets. Today we have the news that the AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 and others are dated by the carrier.

The carrier announced the latest additions to its BlackBerry range and started by revealing the Bold 9900 will be landing on November 6th, and plans to charge $200 for it according to Electronista. Another BlackBerry smartphone the Torch 9860 will also be available on the same day for $100. These are all on condition of a new two year contract though.

Meanwhile the lower priced BlackBerry Curve 9360 will come later in the month on the 30th, and be available for $30 with a contract. If you are a corporate or government user you can get hold of the Curve on November 14th without the camera.

Spec wise the Curve 9360 has a 2.4-inch 480 x 360 display, and powered by an 800MHz processor. You also get a 5-megapixel camera with VGA video capture. While the Bold 9900 gives you a 2.8-inch 640 x 480 touchscreen, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor with 720p video recording and a larger keyboard.

The carrier was among the first to get a Blackberry 7 device in the country with the Torch 9810. AT&Ts versions of the BlackBerry smartphones will be released after most of the other main US carriers have already launched theirs. These new BlackBerry handsets come just as AT&T is launching its first LTE handsets, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid.

Do any of the new Blackberry handsets interest you?

It seems like ages since Research in Motion unveiled the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to the world, however a recent tweet from the official AT&T Twitter account suggests that the 9900 is in fact “coming soon”.

The Bold 9900 and Bold 9930 have been available from multiple carriers for a while now, so we are quite surprised to see AT&T still promoting its release, in our opinion there is a lot more interest surrounding the iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus – that said for enterprise users BlackBerry OS is far more suited to their needs than iOS and Android.

If you head over to CrackBerry you will see that a November 6th release is expected, AT&T’s entire tweet can be seen below, as you can see no solid indication as to when it will arrive was given.

The BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9900 is coming soon! Stay tuned.

One thing which some of CrackBerry’s readers have pointed out is the fact that RIM has previously suggested that QNX will replace BlackBerry 7, in fact we have recently started hearing details about BBX, surely this is reason enough to skip any BlackBerry 7 smartphone and wait until the next-generation of BlackBerry smartphones? Let’s face it, RIM will probably unveil its new platform at CES 2011 which is roughly 3 months away.

We have also heard that the first batch of QNX-based BlackBerry smartphones will be touch-only, so if you are considering buying the Bold 990 for its physical QWERTY keyboard it may be a wise decision, you never know it could be a year before a QWERTY smartphone arrives with QNX.

Are you waiting for the AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 release?

It has not taken long for reviews to start appearing for the BlackBerry Bold 9900, which came to T-Mobile at the end of last month. To most fans of RIM handsets this will excel in most areas, but for these non-believers then it will lack innovation when compared to the likes of Android handsets. This does not come as a surprise, as the Canadian phone maker has been struggling for some time now.

You cannot help but wonder what RIM are up too, as they seem to be following the same path as Nokia and are sticking with a formula that worked a few years ago – it’s as if they are still unaware that the smartphone market has changed. The Bold 9900 is the staple diet for any BlackBerry fan, and if you are happy with the way things are, then the new handset will not disappoint.

Having said that, things are a little different, but you will have to look harder than you would with say an iPhone. When it comes to the changes that RIM has made they are smoother and have a more refined look than the previous version, and that is all fans of these handsets really asks. You can never say that a BlackBerry is not a solid device, and always seems to be a little fatter than other handsets on the market; so you will be pleased to know that the 9900 is their thinnest yet at 10.5mm.

Wired never seems to get away from the fact that the Bold 9900 is a phone for BlackBerry fans only, and judging by the specs you can see where they are coming from. Where many top new phones now utilize a dual-core processor and more than 1GB of RAM, they just seem like a dream for any Bold device. However, the hardware still seems more than up for the challenge.

One of the most talked about BlackBerry devices that we have known to be coming sooner rather than later is none other than the BlackBerry Bold 9900. If you are intrigued by this device, then Crackberry have had an exclusive look at what this device can do, and we’re sure you will be impressed.

BlackBerry enthusiasts who love the iconic style of the BlackBerry 9000 series will have no qualms when they see the BlackBerry 9900. As you can see in the video that we have embedded below, the handset looks incredibly thin. It is so thin infact, that it is officially the thinnest BlackBerry RIM has released to date at just 10.5mm.

But the real defining feature of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the inclusion of NFC, or Near Field Communication. By watching the video, you will never guess where the NFC antenna is located. Now, we wanted to keep it a surprise until you watched the video too, so if you watch the video then come back, we can talk more about the pros and cons.

Watched the video? Good. So the NFC antenna is located on the lightweight, modern, glass-fibre type backdoor on the Bold 9900. Now even though this seems like a good idea, far too many people tend to lose the backdoor of their mobile phones which could mean that to use NFC, they would have to purchase another just to make their contactless payments.

As far as the phone as a whole goes, this phone seems impressive and sticks to the BlackBerry design that many (67 milllion of you) know and love. The brushed stainless steel frame around the edges of the handset take us back to the original style of the Bold, but without all that bulky none-needed extra stuff inside it. All we have been left with, is a toned down, slim, and re-born phone that could be one to look out for.

Of course, if you want to know the specs then check out the video and then tell us what you think of the BlackBerry Bold 9900.

There has been all sorts of release date rumors concerning one of Research In Motion’s top-near releases in the the BlackBerry Bold 9900. So far, we have only been told that it will be around August of this year, but in an apparent new leak, T-Mobile customers could be seeing this as early as the end of the month.

Although T-Mobile were one of the first carriers to confirm that they intended to add the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to their list of phones, there has been no hard indication as to what carriers would be taking this RIM device on board.

The only other slight indication of a selected carrier came at the bottom end of July, when we found some photos of a BlackBerry Bold 9930, which is the CDMA version, out in the wild sporting a Verizon splash screen. This has still yet to be confirmed, but we think we are leaning towards legitimacy than falsifiability.

Referring back to the T-Mobile release of the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it seems as though T-Mobile have been getting started on putting out some promotional material for the device in their own stores which pretty much guarantees that you will be able to get your hands on one of these by the end of the month. In addition, the information regarding the BlackBerry 9900 also states that customers will also be able to get a $50 MIR (Mail-in-Rebate) when you opt in for a $20+ data plan, which is pretty neat. More information can be found via CrackBerry.com.

All things considering, Research In Motion still has a long way to catch up to the flagship smartphones of today. With time creeping up on the apparent release of the iPhone 5 by Apple, plus many more gripping handsets in the pipeline from HTC, Samsung and even Nokia, will the future of RIM be in the hands of the BlackBerry Torch 9860? Only time will tell.

For now though, T-Mobile customers can make do with the BlackBerry Bold 9900 as it is one of the only newer BlackBerry models available from their stores.

A couple of weeks ago we announced that the much-anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone had unfortunately suffered a bit of a delay, with consumers now having to wait until September for its arrival. However, it looks like UK residents may see the handset launched before then.

According to a recent article by Carly Page over at somobile.co.uk, Three UK has recently listed the BlackBerry Bold 9900 on its ‘Coming Soon’ page, with the release date down as sometime in August. Information on a price has yet to be announced, but it is expected to launch on Three’s One Plan.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 – also known as the Bold Touch – is the first Research in Motion (RIM) handset to sport both a portrait QWERTY keyboard and a capacitive touch screen. The 2.8-inch screen will also be the first to showcase RIM’s new BlackBerry OS 7, which promises a boosted web browser and a revamped UI.

For those that may need reminding of the specs, the Blackberry Bold 9900 smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and comes with HSDPA and Wi-Fi speeds, a 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and built-in NFC technology.

Will you be buying the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone?

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has been in the news a lot lately but there are many new impressive devices coming to the market. Today we have a look at the Samsung Galaxy S2 vs the BlackBerry Bold 9900, and review of the specs.

Paul Briden of Know Your Mobile is reporting that the Galaxy S2 has a more modern look to it and weighs virtually nothing. The BlackBerry on the other hand looks a bit cramped and unattractive, it also feels quite heavy. It is nice to have a QWERTY keyboard but is at the expense of the touch screen being pushed up to the top of the handset.

Both the screens on the devices have excellent picture quality with the Samsung measuring 4.3-inches, compared to the small 2.3-inches on the BlackBerry. The operating system on the Bold has impressed so far, with the browser being much quicker than older versions.

Android Gingerbread comes on the Galaxy S2 which is much easier to use than its predecessor. The Samsung has a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 processor, while the Bold uses a single core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm 8655 Snapdragon.

Camera wise the Bold only has one shooter which is 5-megapixels, while the Samsung has an 8-Megapixel on the back and a secondary 2-megapixel on the front. It was found that the latest BlackBerry is one of the best to date, but the Galaxy S2 comes out on top of the two handsets.

You may remember a couple of days ago RIM wowed us with the technical specs for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Bold 9930, since then we have seen a few hands-on videos etc but we are still wondering why such a fast processor has been used.

Obviously a 1.2GHz processor will help the new Bolds to perform better, but we just think that the clock speed is a little bit overkill for a device of this nature. In fact the only task we can in-vision these Bolds carrying out which will utilize this is 720p video capture and playback.

When we see smartphones which use the slate form-factor we can understand why such fast internal components have been used, they usually have massive displays, high resolutions which make it a great environment for people to play pretty demanding games on, we just don’t think the new Bolds will be able to do this.

The tech specs show that a 2.8-inch screen supporting a resolution of 640 x 480 has been used, the resolution is nice but we think the screen size is too small for the needs of demanding games and applications, unless people have ultra thin fingers.

I guess what we are trying to say is that the new Bolds form-factor does not suit its internal specifications, we just don’t know what developers will be able to throw at the Bold to really test out the capabilities whilst delivering a rich experience, do you? Imagine if RIM unveiled a touch only smartphone with exactly the same internal components, it would be far more appealing to today’s developers.

Do you think a 1.2GHz processor is overkill?

Yesterday we posted an article telling you all about the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Bold 9930, we are now hearing that the 9900 is headed to UK carrier Vodafone, however we cannot confirm a release date or price just yet.

We do not know whether Vodafone has an exclusivity deal in the UK, all we can confirm is that it will launch sometime this summer. Currently Vodafone offer the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for free if you agree a 24-month deal costing just £30 each month, perhaps the Bold 9930 will be offered on a similar deal.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 runs BlackBerry 7 OS out of the box, you can find out some of BlackBerry 7′s features here, whilst you can see full technical specifications for the 9900 and 9300 here.

RIM will be hoping that the Bold 9900 will be seen as a rival to high-end smartphones from Apple, HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericcson, we are yet to see anything which has blown us away, however the 1.2GHz processor and 768MB of RAM shows that there is potential.

As and when we hear more regarding Vodafone BlackBerry Bold 9900 we will keep you posted, which UK carrier would you prefer to see this smartphone come to? Let us know in the comments section below.

Earlier today we told you all about the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930, now we thought that we would see how things have moved on since the most popular BlackBerry Bold to date, the Bold 9700.

Firstly we will look at performance hardware, the Bold 9700 features a 624MHz processor, 256MB of RAM and 256MB of internal storage along with a microSD memory card slot, the Bold 9900 and 9930 features a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 768MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, again there is a microSD memory card slot.

In terms of design and size you can tell that the 9900 and 9930 are in the same product family as the Bold 9700 as there are lots of similarities, according to PhoneArena the new Bolds measure in at 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm and weigh 130 grams, the Bold 9700 weighed 122 grams and measured 109 x 60 x 14 mm. Despite being heavier and slightly wider the new Bolds are 3.5mm thinner.

As for connectivity the Bold 9900 and 9930 are far superior, they feature dual-band WiFi b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 2.1 and a whole host of cellphone network connectivity (check out this image) including HSPA+ 4G. The original Bold 9700 WiFi b/g 2G and 3G network support and Bluetooth 2.1.

One of the biggest differences is the display, the Bold 9700 features a 2.44-inch TFT display which supports a resolution of 480 x 360, the Bold 9900 and 9930 both feature a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 640 x 480. Also both devices feature a physical QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad.

Finally we must mention the cameras, the Bold 9700 features a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, image stabilization and video capture at 480 x 352, the new Bolds feature 5 megapixel sensors with image stabilization, this camera is capable of record HD video at 720p.

As you can see the new BlackBerry Bolds are a significant upgrade in comparison to the Bold 9700, will you upgrade to one of the new Bolds?
