We have been keeping you up to date with progress on the still unannounced BlackBerry 9670 clamshell smartphone, but now we have more details which seemingly confirm that it’s heading to Sprint.

You’ll also be pleased to know, that we have the first video for you to watch, showing the device up-close for the very first time. According to this Engadget report, the handset has been listed in the Sprint database, leading Engadget to speculate that the 9670 will be available to buy before the holiday season lands.

As for the video, it comes to us courtesy of PoderPda and confirms that the handset will be running on BlackBerry OS 6. If this thing came with the new BlackBerry Playbook OS, then it might be worth getting excited about. Otherwise, it just looks like another average handset from RIM.

Check out the database leak over at Engadget, you’ll find the video below.

A few months ago Jamie Pert reported that the BlackBerry 9670 was a clamshell device and was destined for Verizon. We can now tell you that the RIM device has made it to the FCC website, and we can confirm that it is indeed a clamshell. However, as this is a CDMA, this could either go to Big Red or Sprint.

The smart money would be on Verizon, but Sprint seems a much better prospect for phone makers now – thanks to the success of the HTC EVO 4G, which recently got an update. Chris Ziegler from Engadget is unsure how successful the upcoming BlackBerry 9670 will be; he said that he would wait to pass on his verdict.

However, looking back at the recent Torch release and the rumored Storm 3, we have to say that we do not hold out much hope. Hopefully we will have more to report on both the BlackBerry 9670 and the Storm next week during Research In Motion’s BlackBerry Developer Conference.

Do you think that RIM is still a force to be reckoned with in the smartphone market, or are they slipping further out of reach from both Apple and Google? The Canadian phone maker had better get their act together soon, as Windows Phone 7 will soon be with us, and will be another rival to contend with.

The spotlight has been firmly fixed on the BlackBerry Pearl 3G and Bold 9650 since the announcement from RIM yesterday, but BlackBerry users are still intrigued by the company’s upcoming clamshell – the BlackBerry 9670 which is rumored to be a Verizon exclusive.

According to a post at SlashGear, they say that apparently the network specifically requested that the phone be made for them for exclusive use on their network, but there is no information regarding the release in Europe as partner carrier Vodafone have not confirmed or denied that they are offering a GSM version.

Specifics we can confirm though, is that it does infact come with a 5-megapixel camera and flash, with the standard offering of WiFi. The device is scheduled to be released with OS 6.0, which is not expected to be released until Q3 2010 which gives us an idea that the release date of the phone could be around Q4 2010.

You can find photos of the new BlackBerry 9670 clamshell in a previous post here, and more of a comprehensive look at the specs in another post here.

We have been hearing rumors for a while now that RIM is to introduce a clamshell BlackBerry device, thankfully BGR now has some updated details on this worst-kept secret handset. The BlackBerry 9670 is not the first clamshell, but we have tried to forget about the Pearl.

BGR offers to us the first photos of the device, which you can see by visiting their website. You will also be aware by our recent post that the 9670 runs on OS 6.0, which we explained to you in more detail yesterday. So can we now class this as the first true BlackBerry Flip?

The handset offers a 5 megapixel camera, that’s much better than most RIM handsets, you get the ever-popular trackpad, microUSB port for external storage is a microSD card slot. The internal screen offers a display of 360 × 480 and packs Wi-Fi.

This is to be a CDMA handset, so could either go to Verizon or Sprint, the smart money would be on the former. Head over to Boy Genius Report now from the link above, not only will you see the first photos, but they are working on a video as well.

Recently a new BlackBerry handset has shown up on IntoMobile, this handset is the BlackBerry 9670, despite featuring a clamshell design it still manages to feature a full QWERTY keyboard.

In fact all of the handset’s specifications seem pretty impressive, the handset has a large external display, an internal display supporting a resolution of 360 x 480 along with a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and a microSD memory card slot.

There are however two more substantial details regarding this upcoming handset, firstly the handset is a CDMA device which means it is almost certainly headed for Verizon, secondly the handset will apparently be running OS 6.0, you can see some screenshots of this upcoming OS here.

It is thought that the 9670 will be showcased at Research In Motion’s WES conference next week, following this conference we should know a lot more about this pretty unique handset, as we find out more we will keep you informed.
