PC gamers waiting for patch 1.15 for Black Ops will be happy to know that it has now gone live. This latest update comes just three weeks before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is due for release, which could become an issue. The reason is because Black Ops players fear that the new game could affect future updates of last year’s game.

It’s hard to know if there will be any more support, but we would guess not – then again we could be wrong. The PC version of Black Ops has always been one-step behind the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, and with patch 1.15 only just offering Mule Kick for zombies’ fans, it further cements its slow support.

It’s not all about the Mule Kick adjustment though, as there are a few other key feature updates, which are as follows. There were a number of exploits and glitches on the Zombie Moon map; these have now been resolved. The leaderboard in this map has also seen an improvement, so now new stats will not overwrite you old ones.

There is also an update for mods in multiplayer mode, which now gives you an increased menu asset limit. Some Call of Duty Community readers have been complaining that they still do not see Mule Kick, they tried to restart, still nothing. Have you had any issues with Black Ops Patch 1.15? Do you think that support for this almost year-old game will now come to an end due to the fact that MW3 is just round the corner?

MW3 survival mode vs. Black Ops zombies: Your thoughts?

Last month we reported that MW3 would be coming with a new feature called Survival Mode, which as we now know is to take the place of Zombies in Black Ops. Comparing the two will be tough, as they will both have their good and bad points. However, we would truly like to know your thoughts?

The good thing about zombies is how you can have more than two players to join in the fun of getting through to each level. However, with survival it will be just you and a friend. Now some may say that this will be boring, but just think how much fun and a challenge it will be. Remember that it is much easier when there are only the two of you, as you will be able to coordinate much better.

Personally, I’m not a great lover of these games, and never got the point of zombies. No matter how hard I tried, getting into the game was very tough – maybe it has something to do with my lack of skill? Survival mode is a more appealing prospect, as it is still keeping to the story of the game. Call of Duty was all about the realism of getting into the action of what a soldier has to go through – not sure how many of them had to fight off zombies while in combat?

Maybe I’m taking it too seriously; after all gaming is meant to be fun, and trying to kill as many of the undead as you can in order to reach another level is certainly fun. What this special mode does in Black Ops is hone your skills, which you will need when playing the campaign or online. However, it still lacks substance, something that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will offer with Survival Mode.

Alan, Daniel, Jamie and myself all attended Eurogamer this year, and Jamie managed to get a decent amount of hands-on time with MW3 survival mode, which you can see in his review. However, it’s always best to get another persons perspective, so you should read what DeltaGamer has to say also. If you still find it hard to choose which of the two modes you prefer, then maybe this video comparing zombies and survival mode will help persuade you?

Just one day after being released for download there are now 4 COD Black Ops Annihilation walkthrough videos, which we have embedded for you below. These cover the four new maps, Drive In, Hazard, Hangar 18 and Silo. For those who would like to know more about the new zombies map then we have a few Shangri La secrets for you as well in this recent article.

The new map pack for the Xbox 360 and not PC or PS3 went live early yesterday for some, while others had to wait for the DLC to propagate. So let us look at the first map and see what it’s all about shall we. This walkthrough was uploaded to YouTube just minutes after it became available, so pretty quick work. This is the smallest map of the bunch, which is said to be a little like Nuke Town, which as we know was the weakest of the maps from the previous DLC.

The reviewer in the video walkthrough believes that quick scoping looks to be very easy. The map is not as small as you would have thought, and there looks to be a certain amount of cover – but not much.

The next walkthrough is for Hazard, this is a very early walkthrough, as the map pack was just ten minutes old at time of upload. This looks to be set around a Cuban hotel and has some similarities to a World at War map. The level is very big, so you will need to watch out for those snipers. There does not seem to be anything unique in this map, but we guess that will take time to find?

Hangar 18 is the third map and is meant to be Area 51, although we cannot be certain, as none of us know what the base looks like. When you walk in the hanger you will see the Blackbird with its engines on full afterburner mode. While walking around you will even get to see an alien. The map is of medium size, but the only issue here is how you are able to get into the vehicles.

The final map is called Silo, which is said to be some kind of missile launch base. You have to have your wits about you, because when you watch a missile launch you could get taken by surprise and killed. There are a number of tall areas, so again ideal for a sniper. Not much more to say about this map for the moment, so just enjoy this little walkaround.

There will be many more in-depth Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation walkthrough videos in time, so just enjoy these early ones.

No longer do we have to worry about the latest Call of Duty DLC download times, as Black Ops Annihilation is now live. However, we have heard from a number of readers that there are propagate problems. It was no secret that Treyarch was going to release the DLC in steps for different regions, so for some they still have to wait.

How long this wait will be we do not know, but it will be worth it. For now you will just have to put up with your friends in other regions texting you to say how much they are enjoying it. You will have to be patient when you do manage to get the latest download, as it is just under 800MB in size. The cost for you will be 1200 MSP.

You are advised to exit your current game and then start the download process, only then should you reboot your system. We are sorry for stating the obvious; we just want your download to go as smoothly as possible. Sorry if you do not have an Xbox 360, as this Annihilation DLC is just for them. If you have a PC or PS3 you will have to wait at least another month.

Having not been out more than a few hours we do find it strange how some gamers have already been looking for cheats. We wrote an informative article asking if cheats will infest this latest DLC? We believe that it will not take long before a few cheats have found and then start making their way across the Internet.

By the time you have read this far Annihilation might now be live for you, so you had best to see if it has propagated in your area yet. OK, so I guess you had no luck and are still waiting. Just to wet your appetite a little more why not take a look at this gameplay video. However, it will not be long before more become available on YouTube along with a few hidden gems as well.

There seems to be so much excitement surrounding this new map pack, which is why we pointed out earlier that there is still no rush for Modern Warfare 3. It does seem that Black Ops still has some life left in it, but it will start to show its age against other titles already on or coming to market soon.

Have you experienced any problems with Black Ops Annihilation?

All PS3 owners should stop reading now, as they do not want to get upset with this article. Tomorrow is June 28, 2011 and will be the day that Call of Duty fans will want to know the Black Ops Annihilation download time. The Xbox 360 map pack is the follow up to First Strike and Escalation, which we know was seen as a huge success.

It is always hard to know just when the map pack will be made available, but most suggestions seem to point at 2 AM to 5 AM in the US, which as we know is dependant on what time zone you are in. If we go by 2AM as the basis, then that would mean that those of you in the UK should get the update by 7AM on June 28th.

Now please do not take our word for this, but this is the most likely time. Having said that, we do have to warn that in some cases the U.S. gets their COD map packs first, and the other countries a little while after. The reason for this is because it takes the servers a little while to get going, but once they do you should be up and running not long after our friends across the pond.

As you may know the Annihilation map pack will be available for download on Xbox 360 Marketplace one month before PSN, due to a deal that Microsoft has with the game. In that time you can be certain that your friends will tease you about how much fun they are having, while those with a PlayStation 3 will have to wait until July to get in on the action.

Just to refresh there are four new maps in Annihilation and also that all-important zombie one “Shangri-La.” More details on this can be found in a recent post, along with a video of some gameplay footage. It does seem a shame that Treyarch works hard on all of these maps in Annihilation and the one that seems to get the most attention is the zombie level. We cannot say for certain how well received this latest DLC will be received, but you can be certain that our very own Alan Ng will give us his thoughts.

Our colleague always tells you how it is, and the best thing is that he gives his opinion as a true gamer, something that many other websites do not.

If you have turned on your Xbox 360 or PS3 today and loaded up Call of Duty: Black Ops, you would have noticed an update for the popular game. The patch has fixed a number of problems that can be seen in our earlier post, although some people are still reporting problems.

We followed up with details of PS3 network / firewall problems when trying to connect to friends and family in COD Black Ops, which were reported to us by several players. The problems did not stop there, even after players had updated to v1.3 of the game they continued to report errors that some say were not there before updating. Has this happened to you?

Before this patch went live we had experienced glitches in Black Ops with dogs, and zombies. Other players reported people cheating in certain multiplayer maps as well. Do you still see Black Ops cheats and glitches after installing the latest patch?

Let us know if you’re still seeing glitches, and if you are playing on the PS3 or Xbox 360. The most common problems we’ve had reported is respawning issues, and lag (that could be user related). We’re still waiting on host migration for zombie games to stop “host ended game” problems.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has now been on the market for one week, and the game opened up to a barrage of anger from players who were experiencing lag issues. It had been assumed that this issue was only affecting PC users, but this issue then manifested itself into connection issues as well for the PS3.

The lag issue was certainly a strange one, two players could be joined to the same game, but only one suffered with lag. COD Black Ops users complained from day one that the game was unplayable, but there were a huge percentage reporting that they did not have any such issue.

There were other users who said that they could play Medal of Honor at full settings, but had to turn Black Ops down, even then it still slowed down. Thankfully there is already a patch to solve this issue, but there has been reports that some lag issues persist.

As for those connection issues, there is a pattern, so if you have a PS3 and want to play Black Ops online you had better make certain that it is not at the busy times. This always seems to happen when a new game comes out, its as if the servers cannot handle the strain. You would have thought that they would have prepared for this and improved or increased servers.

For those who still suffer from lag, visit Yahoo Answers for a solution; just be prepared to change a setting or two. Are you still experiencing lag or connection issues?

With Call of Duty Black Ops well and truly out there, its fair to say that not everyone is as enthralled with the latest edition of the game. With cheats already circulating and certain disappointments found, Mark Fujii of Examiner has listed 10 things that he dislikes about the game.

By his own admission even though he enjoys COD, his ability doesn’t match his enthusiasm. He vents his frustrations at various aspects going into amusing detail at what parts of the game could drive you to murder.

Firstly is the unrealistic results of knife attack, where even though you can unload your mag into an occupant they finish you off with a deft blow of their bladed weapon. Another gripe comes from the actions of “Campers”. These devious players secure themselves into a hiding hole only to appear suddenly release a couple of deadly shots and disappear again. If this isn’t annoying enough, you will forget where it was they finished you off until you pass over the same path where it happens again.

The quitters within the Zombie mode cause frustration, where after waiting for ages to find other players to ‘ready up’ you are left with team members dropping out leaving you short handed, Zombies sets a four player team for a reason. Talking of the team play mode Mark shows his dislike of using headsets unless accompanied by your own friends. It leaves you open to as he puts it “armchair commanders”, or simply people that drone on with unhelpful underage chat that just interferes with your game enjoyment.

There are many different types of COD Black Ops cheats, some that help you kill “Pentagon Thief”, others will unlock all Intel or all the zombie maps using an unlock code – not those with Prestige Edition – and in-game cheats that give you more than two weapons in Black Ops zombie mode.

It’s interesting that many players did not know you could look around while at the main menu, although doing so is how you get to the computer for entering unlock codes, which is done after breaking out of your restraints (see image below).

We wanted to run a quick poll to see how many of our readers are using the computer codes to unlock certain features, for those that will answer no to the poll, you can see an image of the computer in the screenshot below.

The poll is just below, so give us a quick answer with a yes or no. Using the computer may be seen as cheating, but its not the same as certain in-game glitches that help you do some pretty amazing cheats (feel free to comment on these).

[poll id="279"]

With Call of Duty: Black Ops including the zombie mode its sure to be used by those that never played it in COD: World at War, and these people will need to learn fast to keep up with other gamers on the four man team.

Reading our recent post – COD Black Ops Zombie Survival Guide – and tips from other players will help, and not using cheats like the three weapons glitch and “Unlimited Death Machine” will create a more experienced player, but there are some basics you should know from the start.

I have personally played Black Ops zombie mode and seen others on the team wondering where the gun box is, which is pretty easy to find. Look at the image below that shows a screenshot from the zombie mode.

These maps are in most rooms and when the power is turned on you will see a green light, this green light is the location of the gun box. Work out where you are on the map and head for the green light location to get another go at the box. This is simple, but sadly many players do not use this to their advantage.

What strange gameplay have you seen by other players, and what tips do you have?
