After 7 years of existence the popular torrent website btjunkie has decided to pull the plug, this was the fifth most popular torrent website in 2011 and people loved it due to the fact it filtered the good from the bad.

In the early days btjunkie was pretty unique as visitors could review the files they downloaded, this ensured that over time the ‘good’ files were easily visible and the ‘bad’ files were also easy to spot, prior to this it was a bit of a lucky dip and you never quite knew what you was downloading.

btjunkie did not actually host any torrents, nor did it host any illegal files, instead it acted as a middleman, or portal if you like – for this reason many beleived that it was safe from the powers that be, however if you head over to btjunkie.com now you can see a message which hints at something different (see the screenshot below).

As you can say it clearly says “We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on”, we doubt the decision came lightly and can’t help but think they were given a very good reasons to go offline – but that’s just us speculating.

With Mega Upload offline and bitjunkie following suit in 2012 we can’t help but think that this year is going to massive in regards to file sharing, so what site would you hate to see pulled next? The Pirate Bay, Torrentz, KickassTorrents and IsoHunt are currently the top 4 most-visited bit torrent sites out, maybe one of these will disappear next.
