As Mike Jackson at computerandvideogames.com recently reported, PC gamers were able to download the 964MB “Protector Trials” update via Games for Windows Marketplace for a price of 400 Microsoft Points. However, they then discovered that they were unable to access the DLC.

A rep from 2K Games has since confirmed on the official forum that the update was not supposed to have gone live yet and as Tom Senior at pcgamer.com reported, the “Protector Trials” DLC has now been removed. 2K community manager Elizabeth has issued an apology for the mistake.

There is no news at this stage, whether or not players that purchased the DLC pack will be refunded. Although Elizabeth claimed that there won’t be an update until Tuesday at the earliest, she did reassure fans that they will be getting a full report when they know what’s going on.

We can now bring you an update on its release, and it looks like it won’t be too long. Although we still don’t have a specific date to give you, the company’s community manager has promised PC gamers that both DLC packs are still on their way.

According to Tom Ivan over at computerandvideogames.com (sourced from Big Download), the certification for the upcoming Protector Trials DLC pack is scheduled to be completed at the end of this month. Meanwhile, certification for Minerva’s Den is due to be carried out in early March.

This of course means that the release date shouldn’t be too far off. If you want to keep up with all the latest updates on what’s happening with the DLC, then keep a close eye on the forums.2kgames.com website. Are you looking forward to both DLC packs arriving?

Protector Trials, an all new single player focused downloadable game add-on for BioShock 2, is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace (400 Microsoft Points) and PlayStation Network ($4.99).

Here’s what you can expect from the pack, six new maps three unique difficulty levels (each based on favorite locales from BioShock 2), seven new Achievements/Trophies plus much more which you can follow via the source link below.

If you would like to add the Projector Trials DLC to your Xbox 360′s download queue check out this link, it may take some time as it is 1GB in size. PS3 users must browse the PSN Store.

The long awaited pack includes six new maps, three new achievements and trophies, and also a Rebirth feature for the players who have managed to obtain Rank 50.

Using the Rebirth feature, you can rank yourself back down to Rank 1 and receive a special mask. The BioShock 2 Character Pack has also become available, which includes Zigo the Fisherman and Blanche the Actress.

You can purchase the Rapture Metro Pack from Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network for 800 MS Points or $9.99, whereas the separate Character Pack will cost an additional 160 MS Points or $1.99.

The DLC pack will be made available for the PC very soon, we are told.

The trailer (embedded at the end of this post) reveals six new multiplayer maps for BioShock 2, these are Pauper’s Drop, Dionysus Park, Fighting McDonagh’s, Fontaine Fisheries, Siren Alley and Smuggler’s Hideout.

Release and pricing details are still a mystery, therefore we will have to keep you posted, all we do know is that the DLC will be rated M for mature.

There are just two BioShock 2 Rapture Metro Pack screens which have been released, both of which can be seen at the end of this post, one of these screenS shows inside of ‘The Fighting McDonagh’s Tavern’, as I do not play BioShock 2 I am unsure as to where the other location is.

As we hear of a definite release date for the DLC we will keep you posted, also if we hear of a reason for the indefinite delay we will be sure to update you.

Apparently the DLC has been delayed indefinitely, no reason is currently known, however a 2K representative has stated that they will soon reveal more details, when we hear more we will keep you informed, but we can pretty much guarantee that the release will not occur this week.

When 2K Games released the Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack DLC for BioShock 2 it was revealed that it was already on the original game’s disc, this frustrated gamers as it basically means that content was taken out of the full game to make 2K Games more money in the long-run, perhaps the delay surrounding the Rapture Metro DLC is related to this.

According to this report from VG247, users over at the 2kforums have revealed that the download size for the PC version of the DLC was a mere 24k, and only 108k for the Xbox 360 file size.

The pack, titled Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack was released on the Xbox Live Marketplace yesterday, priced at 400 Microsoft points, which is about $5. You can read full details about that here.

If the findings appear to be true, it doesnt look good for 2Kgames, especially since gamers hate the fact that they have to pay for content that should of been on the disc.

As previously stated there are plenty of reasons to buy this DLC, there is a new rank increase for multiplayer gaming, along with new upgrades for your weapons, not only this but there are new trials, playable characters and 5 new masks.

We now are aware of a release date and pricing for this DLC, both platforms will offer the content from March 11th.

The game will be priced at $4.99 on the PlayStation Network and will costs 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live and Windows Live.

As previously stated their will be new trials and masks for rank 41 or higher characters, also their will be rank increase, new playable characters and a third weapon upgrade for each weapon, all in all it sounds well worth your $4.99 / 400 Microsoft Points.
