We are told that the update will arrive in the early hours of Wednesday, the patch is roughly 2GB in size, so will take a while to download – the reason for its size is due to a long-list of changes it brings to the game and the fact that it consists of all the previous patches which have been rolled out. Rather than list every single change which the patch brings we will summarize by saying that stability and performance should be improved. You can see a full list of changes here.

Getting the update should be simple, the Steam client will grab it for you when it goes live (approximately 4am UTC) – if you do not use Steam auto-update should discover the patch at a similar time. EA has said that game servers should all have the update by the end of tomorrow, in the mean time people with the update will only be able to connect to game servers with the update (and vice versa).

EA has revealed that there is currently one known issue with the update, if your Windows username contains a strange character PunkBuster won’t activate – this shouldn’t affect too many people and it can be rectified by changing your Windows username in control panel to something which features no foreign characters (Â, Ŕ, ġ, ὼ etc). If you previously installed the R11 public beta check out this link for instructions on what you need to do.

According to a recent article posted on VG247 Battlefield 3 pre-orders were 700% higher than Battlefield: Bad Company 2 pre-orders, EA went on to say that EA has a better game engine, development studio and game than their Call of Duty rivals.

EA are hoping that the Battlefield 3 release will put their rivals on the defense as Battlefield helps EA gain a significant share in the first-person shooter market, we have not heard anything about the next Call of Duty installment, however many think that it will debut at E3 2011 and will be called Modern Warfare 3.

What we have seen of Battlefield 3 so far has been impressive, however we have not seen anything in terms of multiplayer gaming, a few of the Product-Reviews writers are big fans of CoD, but the campaign is not what they buy it for, it’s all about multiplayer.

Some of the content such as Vietnam, BFBC2′s extension set during the infamous war in Vietnam has been reduced to 600 MSP. Onslaught Mode has been halved to 200 MSP, Kit Short-cut Bundle Pack gives you all the kit for 600 MSP and the SPECACT Upgrade Bundle which gives gamers more kit and some added achievements is offered to you for 240 MSP.

There is also news that the 2009 release Battlefield 1943 is being sold on the Xbox Live Marketplace at reduced price of 600 MSP. If you are a heavy fan of the series you can secure this also while the offer is still ongoing.

That’s ok though, as DICE have unlocked this extra map for everyone, as a sort of New Year present. The map is a remake of Operation Hastings from Battlefield Vietnam fame; the PC only 2004 game that many fans will tell you is the best Battlefield game so far. The remake theme of this map is similar to the recent VIP map pack 7, which featured fan-favorites harvest day and oasis from the first Bad Company.

PC gamers are hoping their achievement will not go unnoticed, and DICE will gift them Onslaught mode, as only the PS3 and Xbox 360 players are able to play this great mode currently. Do you think DICE should give Onslaught mode to PC players? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.

Information about BFBC2:
Battlefield Bad Company 2 was released on march 2nd in North America, and march 5th in Europe. It uses the Frostbite 1.5 engine, and has sold over 5 million units so far. It has been proclaimed as being better than Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops.

Today’s top grossing app is Football Manager 2011 at £6.99 from Sega, and interestingly Battlefield Bad Company 2 sitting in 2nd spot. The game has a debut release price of £0.59 or $0.99, which is very reasonable. Battlefield is also high up in the Top Paid chart currently sitting pretty in pole position.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 has a very low cut price being 90% cheaper that it would normally be, this makes it Electronic Arts’ biggest ever sale ever. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, head to the bottom of the article and view a gameplay video courtesy of ‘bytegadget’.

The game has 14 different weapons; you can take a ride in tanks, helicopters and other vehicles too. Battlefield has 3 different control setups; these are explained over at iTunes on the preview of the app. We have seen a few customer reviews from iTunes and it generally has pretty good feedback, Sam Darabi says “purchased because of its worth, its very cheap and clean, one of the most action FPS games ever.”

According a recent post on PlayStationBlog it seems as if there are 10 in total, one of which is a secret trophy, you can see the full list of trophies and how to achieve them here.

We expect the Xbox 360 Achievements to be identical to this, however at the moment we have had no confirmation of this, in the mean time it may be worthwhile tying to earn some of the Bad Company 2 trophies / achievements which you have not managed to earn so far.

EA has just announced that VIP Map Pack 7 will be going live for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this week, and it will once again be free for those of you with a VIP code for the game.

However, rather than just feature new game modes on the same maps, Map Pack 7 will feature two maps from the first Bad Company game (Harvest Day, Oasis), and also two maps from the single player campaign (Cold War, Heavy Metal), so you could basically call this the first REAL map pack for the game if you like.

We’re loving the fact that this remains free for VIP owners, so we take our hats off to EA for that. They have also included a trailer for the upcoming maps, so check that out below and let us know what you think about it.

Usually, you would take this kind of information with a pinch of salt. And I encourage you to do so until we have an official press release stating otherwise. Steam have listed the release date as December 18 2010.

UPDATE: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam now has an official release date — December 21, 2010, although PC users will still get the game “exclusively” 3 days early. VIP Map Pack 7 will come out December 1, 2010.

Purchasing from Steam will cost you $14.99. You can also pre-order via the EA Store too. If you do decide to go with the latter, you can expect to get the game three days earlier which would mean a December 15 release date. We are not sure if this applies to Steam or not.

Regardless of release date, the patch for BFBC2 was released today which can only mean that we are not far away from launch now. More information regarding the patch can be read here. It is a massive 2.6GB big, giving us more reason to believe it holds pre-content for Vietnam.

The patch weighs in at a massive 2.6GB, so be prepared for a lengthy wait while it downloads. The patch is thought to be that large due to the upcoming Vietnam expansion, scheduled for release this winter along with Map Pack 7.

A list of PC fixes have been made public, and amongst them are fixes to Bullet Tracers, Acog and Red dot scope are now equippable on MJ-14 and G3 and the Play Now option now works as intended. Xbox 360 patch notes can be found here.

If you are looking for download links for the PC version of the game, then you can check out the Battlefield blog, where they have listed numerous mirrors to get your patch.

On a side note, PC server side updates are to take place “between GMT 08:00 2010-11-30 and GMT 08:01 2010-12-01,” so PC players may experience some interruptions during these times.

With no solid release date set, Vietnam has been in the thoughts of all Bad Company 2 players since its conception at E3 this year, and we got our first preview at the Tokyo Game Show back in September.

Ok, we realise this is potentially top secret information and love to give you sneak previews of games when we get it, but remember this is a spoiler so proceed at your own peril.

In the video, we see all the weapons you will be able to play with in BFBC2 Vietnam, as well as all the new Vietnam-themed vehicles that you can ride around in.

So with no further a do, check the video we have posted below that shows you a glimpse of the menu’s (proving that it is legit), weapons, item names and stats (albeit in Russian), tanks, helicopters and ships to name a few.
