The good news, is that Vietnam has been given a glowing report by the guys over at Joystiq, and to summarize their report, they think that the $12.99 for the pack is well justified.

If you didn’t know, Vietnam is available now to download for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and consists of 5 brand new maps, 15 new weapons and 6 new vehicles to go through. Four maps are playable in the expansion straight away, these are Hill 137, Vantage Point, Phu Bai Valley and Cao Son Temple.

There’s also a fifth map on offer, a remake of Operation Hastings which will automatically be unlocked for each platform when players complete a series of team objectives and reach 69 collective team actions together.

New weapons include the M2 Flamethrower, while you’ll also be able to make use of TNT packs and the Huey helicopter, a multi-person chopper armed with rockets and machine guns.

Unlike other expansions, the best aspect of Vietnam is the fact that it offers a complete different gaming experience to the one you get playing the standard BFBC2 multi-player mode – which is what you want when you are paying $12 for it.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is now available on the PC, it has been officially released it to the open world 3 days early as promised by EA. The Steam homepage shows the expansion pack as a new release for £9.99. You can add the expansion pack to your cart and then proceed with payment.

The expansion pack has a few main features to it, aside from being set back in the 60’s in the Vietnam war, you will have 6 vehicles, 5 new maps, 2 hours of 60’s music spread across 8 channels and 15 new weapons. You have to say the flamethrower looks hot, if you haven’t seen too much of the expansion then head to the bottom of the article and have a look at the video, courtesy of GS. The video shows some of the gameplay that you can expect, including flying helicopters and driving tanks. The Vietnam expansion pack is proving to be very popular and with its release date being December 21st they have timed the launch trailer to perfection. You can view the trailer at the bottom of the article.

You can keep up with Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam on their website, their Facebook page or even on their Twitter page. They have made good use of modern advertising strategies by using these two social networking giants to help give the game even more hype.

The release couldn’t really have come at a better time, as Call of Duty: Black Ops continues to have problems; more so after releasing patches that are supposed to fix issues. We are pre-empting that quite a few frustrated gamers may choose to switch over to Battlefield if the connection problems aren’t sorted soon.

According a recent post on PlayStationBlog it seems as if there are 10 in total, one of which is a secret trophy, you can see the full list of trophies and how to achieve them here.

We expect the Xbox 360 Achievements to be identical to this, however at the moment we have had no confirmation of this, in the mean time it may be worthwhile tying to earn some of the Bad Company 2 trophies / achievements which you have not managed to earn so far.

At the moment we have no idea as to how much the Vietnam expansion will cost, however I believe it will cost roughly $15 / 1200 Microsoft Points.

Usually, you would take this kind of information with a pinch of salt. And I encourage you to do so until we have an official press release stating otherwise. Steam have listed the release date as December 18 2010.

UPDATE: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam now has an official release date — December 21, 2010, although PC users will still get the game “exclusively” 3 days early. VIP Map Pack 7 will come out December 1, 2010.

Purchasing from Steam will cost you $14.99. You can also pre-order via the EA Store too. If you do decide to go with the latter, you can expect to get the game three days earlier which would mean a December 15 release date. We are not sure if this applies to Steam or not.

Regardless of release date, the patch for BFBC2 was released today which can only mean that we are not far away from launch now. More information regarding the patch can be read here. It is a massive 2.6GB big, giving us more reason to believe it holds pre-content for Vietnam.

The patch weighs in at a massive 2.6GB, so be prepared for a lengthy wait while it downloads. The patch is thought to be that large due to the upcoming Vietnam expansion, scheduled for release this winter along with Map Pack 7.

A list of PC fixes have been made public, and amongst them are fixes to Bullet Tracers, Acog and Red dot scope are now equippable on MJ-14 and G3 and the Play Now option now works as intended. Xbox 360 patch notes can be found here.

If you are looking for download links for the PC version of the game, then you can check out the Battlefield blog, where they have listed numerous mirrors to get your patch.

On a side note, PC server side updates are to take place “between GMT 08:00 2010-11-30 and GMT 08:01 2010-12-01,” so PC players may experience some interruptions during these times.

With no solid release date set, Vietnam has been in the thoughts of all Bad Company 2 players since its conception at E3 this year, and we got our first preview at the Tokyo Game Show back in September.

Ok, we realise this is potentially top secret information and love to give you sneak previews of games when we get it, but remember this is a spoiler so proceed at your own peril.

In the video, we see all the weapons you will be able to play with in BFBC2 Vietnam, as well as all the new Vietnam-themed vehicles that you can ride around in.

So with no further a do, check the video we have posted below that shows you a glimpse of the menu’s (proving that it is legit), weapons, item names and stats (albeit in Russian), tanks, helicopters and ships to name a few.

As reported from VG247, DICE Product Manager Kevin O’Leary unveiled the gameplay footage of Vietnam during Tokyo Game Show – which is still ongoing as we speak.

The basic core of Vietnam will consist of the same multiplayer modes but in an old school vietnam setting, with new environments, weapons and character skins. You’ll also get new armor to play around with, and the ability to use new vehicles from the Vietnam era.

Judging from the demo shown at TGS, the gameplay is the same experience from the standard game, but with lots of new character customization to make it feel and look different to the gamer. The level shown during the demo was called Phu Bai Valley and will be one of four included maps in the Vietnam pack.

All in all, it looks pretty solid, but the important thing here is the price point I feel. Check out the gameplay video below and let us know your first impressions of Vietnam.

As reported from VG247, the pack is simply called ‘Vietnam’ and will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC sometime this Winter.

Full details are not known about the pack yet, but EA confirmed that the new content will allow you to play as a U.S. Marine or a North Vietnamese solider – in jungle environments we’re guessing.

We don’t have any word on pricing yet, but EA said to wait for further announcements on the pack. The first trailer for Vietnam is available to view below.

It seems like EA is keeping BFBC2 owners very busy with updates for the game. We love to see that, so hopefully they keep it up!
