This led to talk of legal action being taken after gamers were promised early releases of DLC instead, which had already been promised. Now we have news of an EA climb down as PS3 owners are to get Battlefield 1943, and we can tell you how to get yours.

According to an article over at CVG.com EA will now honor its original promise of a free copy of the game for owners of the PS3 who purchase Battlefield 3. The company had been trying to calm the matter by saying PS3 owners would get timed exclusive DLC content for Battlefield 3 instead.

Trouble is this was already promised before the game actually became available, so the publisher seemed to be failing to give PS3 owners anything new at all. The publisher has released a statement saying there has been a misunderstanding surrounding the matter.

It continued by saying “To address this we are making Battlefield 1943 available free of charge to owners of Battlefield 3 on the PS3 beginning this month.” PlayStation 3 owners who own Battlefield 3 can access Battlefield 1943 PSN vouchers on November 26th in Europe. Gamers in the US, Asia and Japan have to wait a little longer until December 10th and December 17th respectively.

To get your free copy of the game head over to the EA website and follow the instructions given. There were some Battlefield 3 owners who were saying they weren’t bothered about the lack of the free game, but many more would have been disappointed.

The highly anticipated game has been getting some good reviews so far especially for the multiplayer part of the game. But we can tell that there is no free copy of Battlefield 1943 for PS3 owners buying Battlefield 3.

Previously EA said that gamers getting a copy of Battlefield 3 on the PS3 would receive a nice bonus of a free copy of Battlefield 1943. Now Kotaku are reporting that PlayStation owners who have already got their copy of Battlefield 3 have found no free copy of 1943.

Disgruntled gamers have taken to Twitter asking where the free game is, EA have responded by saying “In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers.”

Trouble is EAs decision to release DLC content early for PS3 owners was announced last month, so it really means PS3 users were expecting a free game and early access to DLC content. If the free title wasn’t promised in the first place there wouldn’t be a problem.

There will be many gamers who have an Xbox 360 and a PlayStation 3, and with the promise of a free game may have decided to get the PS3 version of the title. Then when they discover that there won’t be any freebies will be disappointed.

EA should have just said before Battlefield 3 was released that there will now be no free title bundled with it. Are you disappointed there is no free copy of Battlefield 1943 bundled with Battlefield 3?

Some of the content such as Vietnam, BFBC2′s extension set during the infamous war in Vietnam has been reduced to 600 MSP. Onslaught Mode has been halved to 200 MSP, Kit Short-cut Bundle Pack gives you all the kit for 600 MSP and the SPECACT Upgrade Bundle which gives gamers more kit and some added achievements is offered to you for 240 MSP.

There is also news that the 2009 release Battlefield 1943 is being sold on the Xbox Live Marketplace at reduced price of 600 MSP. If you are a heavy fan of the series you can secure this also while the offer is still ongoing.

EA is apparently issuing refunds for pre-orders of the title to people that have pre booked the PC release. One customer recently contacted EA’s customer service and was told this, “All pre-orders can be canceled with refund at any time and we do not have any further information at this time about a release date.

Battlefield 1943 was released well over a year ago for the consoles but got delayed for the PC. Officially the delays were for the developer to make changes to the game that were specific to the PC such as 32 player support. You may remember that the last time Big Download asked EA about the status of Battlefield 1943 for the PC we were told there would be news about its release “shortly.” That was in March of this year.

The news of pre-order refunds does not bode well for PC users who’ve been itching to play the game on their systems for ages, let’s hope it arrives sometime soon.
