Batman: Arkham City has been a massive success for Rocksteady Studios since it was first released back in October this year, today we can confirm the date that more downloadable-content will hit Xbox Live and the PlayStation network thanks to a recent tweet from the official Arkham City News Twitter feed.

You can see the tweet below, as you can see it does not state the name of the downloadable content or its price, however multiple sources have suggested that it will be called the Challenge map pack, or perhaps the Batcave Challenge map pack. One thing which is clear is that it will arrive on December 20th.

Brand new DLC coming December 20th with all new Batcave. Jokers carnival and the iceberg lounge also available to download then!

As you can probably tell details are extremely scarce at present, but it looks clear that this DLC will just bring new challenges to the game and no new storylines, this has infuriated some gamers so much that they set up a petition over at the Arkham City forums to urge Rocksteady Studios to bring story-based content to the game as Challenge maps are in their words “boring and repetitive” – do you agree?

If you look back at Batman: Arkham Asylum you will see that the DLC which was brought to this game consisted of new maps and map packs, we really think that gamers would happily spend more on DLC if it consisted of new stories to further enhance the game’s campaign, however some people say that such content would ruin the game’s ending.

Hopefully we will hear more about this challenge pack soon, when we do we will keep you posted so keep checking Product-Reviews.net for all of the latest news!

What sort of content would you like Rocksteady Studios bring to Arkham City?

Recently we was forwarded a press release telling us that this year’s Batman game, Arkham City, was now available on OnLive. Like most OnLive releases you are allowed to demo the game free of charge for up to 30 minutes before deciding whether or not to buy it, well it looks like a lot of gamers took advantage of this offer.

According to OnLive, Batman: Arkham City has set records in both the US and UK for most demos played in a single day. This shows us that OnLive’s instant streaming service is really beginning to become popular, we just wonder how many demos played led to sales. Here’s what OnLive Founder and CEO, Steve Perlman, had to say about the impressive demo launch:

“The record-shattering performance of the Batman: Arkham City demo shows that gamers recognize the immense advantages of playing free trials on the OnLive platform, OnLive makes the ‘try-before-you-buy’ experience effortless, and it’s quickly becoming gamers’ go-to destination for instant-play demos and early exclusives”

We have to agree with Steve in regards to OnLive’s instant streaming of demos being effortless in comparison to rival solutions, let’s face it we have all at one point or another had to wait ages for a demo download to complete only to play it and be totally unimpressed. Perhaps Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo could learn a little from OnLive – what do you think? What we like the most is that you can progress in a game whilst playing the 30 minute free demo and then carry on from where you left off when you purchase the game.

The full game costs $49.99 / £34.99 in the U.S. and UK respectively, however if you just want to play it for a few days you can also just rent the game for 3 days ($5.99) or 5 days ($8.99). Currently U.S. consumers can get the full game, however UK gamers are restricted to the demo until November 25.

UK gamers can check out Arkham City on OnLive here, whilst US gamers should check out this link.

Is OnLive beginning to grow on you?

Roughly two weeks ago we told you all about the Nightwing DLC for Batman: Arkham City, here we revealed that it would cost $6.99 and launch on November 1st, now we have a video to show you Nightwing in action.

Comic readers will know what Nightwing is all about, however we thought we would quickly run through the new playable character’s abilities and weaponry – all of which was was confirmed at in the video at the bottom of this post, we think that it’s safe to say that you will have great fun playing as Nightwing.

In terms of abilities, Nightwiing is no pushover, he was trained by Batman and is a master of mutliple martial arts, which means his has astounding agility, endurance and strength. Most of the time you will take out the enemy with kicks, knees and elbows, but you also have escrima sticks in each hand, wrist darts to pick off the enemy from afar and advanced offensive devices (aka batarangs).

Towards the end of the video it clearly states that the DLC will bring exclusive maps and a new animated series skin – all in all we think most people won’t think twice about spending $6.99 on this DLC – perhaps we are wrong, let us know in the comments section below.

If you head over to JoyStiq you will see that Robin (from the Dark Knight) should arrive on November 22 for the same price, what other playable characters would you like to see?

Now that Batman: Arkham City has been out for a week we have been receiving lots of emails regarding the game’s many riddles, lots of you will probably do things the proper way and unravel the game’s mysteries without any help, but some of you will just want to earn all of the game’s achievements / trophies as quickly as possible – well luckily for you an official app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad has been developed.

The app was put together by Dorling Kindersley and is aptly named the “Batman Arkham City Official Map App”, it has seen great reviews so far, but it does cost $2.99 – we are sure this will put some of you off. You can grab it from iTunes via this link.

According to the app’s description this app is officially licensed for Batman: Arkham City, it is a great companion to the game as it features maps for the entire game which are interactive (scroll / zoom capable) – making it easy to find your way across the vast city.

The maps will allow you to locate every Riddler Trophy for Batman & Catwoman, not only this but it will help you solve all of the Riddler’s Riddles.

Whenever we want to point you in the direction of an accurate, well-written review we check out IGN – we find that their scores are usually very fair, so this is why we are amazed to see that Batman: Arkham City scored 9.5 / 10 in their review, this suggests that it is one of, if not the best title so far in 2011.

Any game which gets this score from IGN deserves some attention, in recent times other games which got the same score are Portal 2, Halo: Reach, Forza Motorsport 4, Mass Effect 2 and Gears of War 2 – as you can see it is on par with some very impressive games.

You can see the two-page review here, they reviewed the PS3 version of the game, however we doubt that the review score would have varied massively on other platforms – we will now summarize some of the main points raised.

IGN scored the game’s gameplay 9.5, like its predecessor the controls are great, but this time round everything has been tweaked and improved, also the game was given 9.5 out of 10 for lasting appeal – apparently you will have to play the game twice to fully appreciated it, but then you have lots of Riddler Challenges, challenge maps and side missions to play through – let’s not forget that Rocksteady Studios will probably roll out more missions via DLC.

In terms of presentation and sound IGN score it 9.0 for both of these, apparently the story, setting and villains make it great, whilst the music and effects are very fitting, that said some of the voice acting is sometime questionable. The lowest score was for graphics, 8.5 is nothing to be ashamed of, however at times lip-syncing was not quit in-sync with the dialogue, also sometimes there was noticeable texture pop-in, but that said IGN’s Greg Miller didn’t have anything really bad to say about the visuals. He ends his review with this comment (you can see the video review below).

Batman: Arkham City isn’t just better than Batman: Arkham Asylum, it’s better than most games on the market.

Will you buy Arkham City based on this review?

If you are thinking of picking up Batman Arkham City starting from October 18th on either the PS3, Xbox 360 or PC, you’ll be pleased to hear that the ‘world’s first review’ for the game has now been completed and published.

The review comes from the Official PlayStation Magazine for Australia and some of you may be surprised to hear that Arkham City has received a perfect 10/10 score. Along with the review, there are some very bold comments from OPMA, ones which state that Batman is the ‘best superhero game ever’, which you may find hard to believe – personally, that old school co-op Xmen arcade game was a pure classic, while Separation Anxiety on the SNES and Megadrive is right up there as well.

Back to the news though, and the magazine also believes that Arkham City will be one of the best games you’ve ever played, as reported from CVG. One of the most pleasing factors about the perfect score, is that the game received big praise from the magazine due to its replayability factor. Players will apparently be kept busy for months with the additional DLC, while the Riddler challenge missions and side quests will serve as a great bonus as well.

On a side note, it gets even better for Batman fans, as developers for the game Rocksteady have dropped big hints about carrying on with the franchise after Arkham City, which would of course make the game a trilogy. Here is a quote from Rocksteady’s Dax Ginn in a recent interview when asked about a third game, also via CVG:

”As long as we’ve got stories to tell. So long as we feel we can do that and do that really well. I feel like we’re in a real sweet spot with the games that we’re making, the opportunities that we have so I don’t really want that to change”

So there we have it, not only is Batman Arkham City being touted as the best superhero game ever, but it will probably be followed up with another sequel too after that – great stuff Rocksteady.

What are your thoughts on the perfect review score – did you expect a 10/10? Can you name a better superhero game?

We have some great news for those of you who are planning to pick up Batman Arkham City at the end of the year, and even better if you have managed to pick up a ticket for the 2011 Eurogamer Expo in London – it’s going to be playable.

For those of you that are unaware, Batman Arkham City is the follow up to the hugely successful Arkham Asylum game and Arkham City is not due to be released until the middle of October on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

However, for those of you who have a ticket to this year’s Eurogamer Expo at Earl’s Court in London, you’ll be delighted to hear that you will be able to have the very first sample of gameplay as the title will be one of the highlights of a growing list of excellent games available this year. Even better, you may bump into a few of the PR writers at the event, as we already have our press tickets for the event – hopefully we’ll see you there!

If you want to see the current lineup for the Expo, head over to Eurogamer’s official website here. Highlights for me personally are Battlefield 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, FIFA 12, Pro Evo 2012, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Attendees will also have an opportunity to play some of the latest Kinect and Move supported games as well, so there’s definitely something for everyone.

For those of you who are interested, you can even come to the Eurogamer Expo in cosplay! According to the website, there will be prizes up for grabs too, as you’ll have a chance to win a PlayStation Vita and a copy of Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the best dressed Nathan Drake or Elena Fisher – so good luck for those crazy enough to dress up for that, we’ll certainly be on the lookout for you.

Do you have a ticket for the Expo this year? If so, let us know your thoughts on being one of the first gamers in the UK to play Batman Arkham City before anyone else.

Rocksteady Studios’ upcoming Batman: Arkham City has got to be one of the most anticipated video games of this year, so you can imagine the excitement that was created among fans when they heard reports of a Collector’s Edition last week. There was no extra information at that stage however, so nobody really knew what the CE would include.

However, we do have a bit of good news now, as according to a recent article by Isaac Calon over at gamerant.com, the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition contents have now been unveiled. Although we do have to point out that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment still hasn’t officially confirmed it yet, so things could possibly change.

The standout bonus item of the Batman: Arkham Asylum Collector’s Edition was a replica batarang mounted on a stand, which has now been replaced with a premium statue for the Collector’s Edition of Batman: Arkham City. The downside is that it is still unclear at this point which character has been given the special statue treatment.

As Isaac notes, the information appears to be about the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases of the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition, with no word yet on a PC edition. According to VengefulYar over on the buypoe.com website, the CE was originally listed on both the Best Buy and GameStop websites, but GameStop appear to have removed their listing since.

Those who purchase the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition will not only receive the premium statue by Kotobukiya, they will also get an art book, exclusive early access to digital add-on content and Gotham Knight animated content. The question you may be asking at this point is how much will the Collector’s Edition cost?

The answer to that question is $99.99. The Batman: Arkham Asylum Collector’s Edition – which contained an art book, in-game DLC, a replica batarang, a bonus DVD and a copy of the game itself – was very well received when it was released back in 2009. The question now is whether or not the Batman: Arkham City CE will be just as popular?

I guess that may depend on which character gets the statue treatment. The Batman: Arkham City game is due to arrive on October 18th in North America, and will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. There is also a Nintendo Wii U version in the works, but this won’t be released until sometime in 2012.

Are you tempted by the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition at all?

We have some good news for those of you who are planning to pick up Batman Arkham City later on in October, as Warner Bros has just released the official box art for the game, and it’s very much different to previous images that were rumored to had been chosen for the box art.

Warner Bros had earlier released a previous image of the box art for Batman Arkham City, but it appears that they have now had a change of heart and gone with a completely different design. Compared to the front view of Batman posing in a fighting style looking straight on, the new box art image now features Batman at a side-on view holding on to a building statue with Wayne Enterprises visible in the background.

We definitely prefer this new look box art image compared to the old one, and we’re glad that the black-white color theme has been retained as well as it really adds to the whole dark and mysterious ‘aura’ that’s now associated with the Batman video game reboot following on from the excellent Arkham Asylum game.

The game will feature pretty much everyone you know and love from the Batman franchise, that includes the return of the Joker and Poison Ivy from Arkham Asylum, while you’ll also see appearances by The Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman as a playable character and even Robin as a playable bonus character in the challenge maps included in the game.

If the game turns out to be as good as Arkham Asylum, then it’s going to be one to look out for at the end of the year, and also a perfect game to play when you need a break from the likes of Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 which are also both due out towards the end of the year. It’s probably too early to tell whether this will turn out to be a candidate for G.O.T.Y like it’s predecessor, but we’re hoping that the first solid gameplay for the game won’t disappoint as there’s a lot of expectation riding on the sequel.

Are you looking forward to picking up Arkham City in October? Let us know your thoughts on the new box art for the game. Is it better than the previous one released by Warner Bros or not?

If you were a fan of the Batman: Arkham Asylum game, we have some news for you which is likely to put a smile on your face. It looks likely that Batman will be joined by a familiar face in the upcoming Arkham City title, as an exclusive pre-order DLC character with retailers Best Buy.

That familiar face which we’re referring to and most of you can probably guess is – good ol’ Robin. Yes, according to an image leak, he will be featured in Batman:Arkham City as a playable character in two challenge maps.

Those of you who played the challenge maps mode in Arkham Asylum will know just how refreshing they were, so the idea of being able to play as Robin with his appearance and abilities is a prospect many of you will be relishing for sure.

You can see the leaked image in question over at CVG here. It’s worth pointing out the listing over at Best Buy was removed shortly after this became public knowledge, but not for the first time – Google’s cache saved the day once again.

If Robin does make his way into the game via pre-ordering with Best Buy, we hope developers Rocksteady are planning to release it at a later stage as standard DLC so everyone can share a slice of the pie. If you already have the game on pre-order, will you now cancel and get it from Best Buy instead?
