To celebrate the event, Barbie makers Mattel are running a reality show on the internet called “Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend.” It will be split up into various episodes, and the whole idea of it is to find a geniune guy in real life who displays all the characteristics that we’ve seen from the Ken doll over the years.

News about this is quickly spreading on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, as you can find out more detailed information on the show over at the Facebook page here, as reported from the NYTimes.

So the Ken doll turns 50 this week – does this mean anything to you or not? How many of you still buy Barbie doll products today for collecting purposes? It’s safe to assume that they are going to become very valuable in the years to come, so don’t be afraid of telling us that you still buy them!

Stefano Canturi was commissioned by Mattel to design and produce the worlds most expensive Barbie.

Parents can breath a sigh of relief, as only one has been made. The doll went for a staggering $302,500, although expectations had been higher. What made this doll so expensive was her jewelry, a chocker that contained a one-carat square-cut pink diamond.

According to BBC News, the previous record was set back in 2006 when the Barbie doll went for $17,091 – why would anyone want to own a doll worth that much?

However, let us not take away the fact that all the money earned from the sale of the doll will be given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This is something very close to my heart, as this horrible disease has affected me as well as many of our readers in one way or another.

The doll is part of the Barbie Basics collection and is available to buy now from stores like Target priced at $19.99.

As we told you in detail earlier, the doll features a low cut dress and cleavage, prompting worried parents to question whether the dolls are suitable for their daughters or not.

If you were to take your daughter shopping for a new Barbie doll and she says to you, ‘I want that one’, how would you react? Would you think nothing of it and simply buy it?

As reported from WPTV, the new doll is available in retailers across the U.S, with Target a confirmed supplier of the dolls.

One parent had this to say on the new dolls: “I doubt my daughter will have it, and I don’t want her to think she has to be a busty Barbie who’s constantly wearing heels in low cut shirts.”

But what are your thoughts on it? Of course there is the arguement that the doll does not provide a suitable learning curve for young girls, but is it really a potential recall problem?

Target has stated that they will continue to sell the new busty dolls, but Mattel, the manufacturer of the dolls was unavailable for comment on the matter.
