We have some good news for those of you who are glued to your screen for details on the upcoming Apple Back to School 2011 promotions, as it looks like we now have a confirmed start time and date for when you’ll be able to take advantage of the offers.

As previously speculated, it looks like Apple’s main deal will be a free $100 gift card which you’ll get when purchasing a Mac for college use. This gift card can either be used to purchase content through the Mac App Store, the iBookStore or by purchasing media content via iTunes.

As confirmed by an official-looking screenshot at MacRumors, this year’s promotion will run starting from Thursday 16th June ie today, or later on depending where you are based. The screenshot also reveals that the promotion will end on September 20th, so you’ll have plenty of time to decide whether or not the $100 gift card incentive warrants a purchase of a brand new Mac or not.

We’re not going to get into the age-old debate of if a Mac is better than a PC running Windows, but in the rarity that Apple offers such freebies, you would be forgiven for siding with Apple on this occasion.

So now that you know the official promotion dates, will you be heading to your nearest Apple dealer as soon as you can, or are you not interested in this year’s offer?

There has been much talk over Apple’s 2011 “Back to School” program, the latest rumor suggests that students will be getting a $100 iTunes voucher, which is a little bit of a letdown when you compare it to previous years. Last year was a fine example of that, as Apple not only offered student their discounts but also a free iPod Touch as well.

Having said that, it was also the same deal that students got in 2009, so there could be something going on a little deeper here. It is no secret that Apple have been using the “Back to School” program as a way to get rid of unwanted stock in the build-up to a new version of the iPod Touch, but 9 to 5 Mac is now a little concerned.

Apple always launches this promotion around three months before their annual September iPod event. Now we could be jumping the gun here a little, but there might not be a 2011 model. There could be some truth in there, as Apple might be using the September event to release their iPhone 5 instead.

Most rumors suggest that the design of the next iPhone will not be any different, which might cause an upgrade dilemma for some. Apple might feel that with only minor changes for the fifth-generation iPhone it would not warrant launching a new version of the iPod Touch just yet.

Remember that this is all just speculation, but it is certainly food for thought.

We have seen a number of companies offering a few back-to-school deals where they give a few dollars of for an item, but Apple it seems to have been going one better. Since May 25 to September 7, 2010 they offer either college students or staff members the chance to get a free iPod Touch when they purchase a new Mac.

How can students ever say that get a bum deal when companies such as Apple offer them a free media device – and a 8GB iPod Touch is considered to be one of the best on the market. Maybe this was seen as a final push to off-load all the old stock before Steve Jobs announces the launch of the new model on September 1st, 2010?

The process is simple to get a free iPod Touch; first you have to shop for a new Mac online, in store, an authorized campus store or by phone. Then you need to purchase the iPod Touch and the same time.

One you have done that then simply submit your rebate within 90 days of purchase. For more details visit the Apple Store.

The back-to-school sales are about to start and there are already a number of sales ongoing that aims to take advantage of some last minute shopping. U.S. retailers understand that sales do not look that promising, so are looking north for better results – yes that means Canada.

The Financial Post has been looking into this and has some interesting data from Ernst & Young. Sales were very low in 2009, but 2010 looks to have gotten off to a better start in Canada, an increase of 4 to 5 percent on school supplies, such as electronics.

The Canadian retailer admitted that they expect sales to do much better on home soil rather than the U.S, and is mirrored in many other markets as well. The reason for this was because the United States was hit harder by the recession than their northern neighbors.

You would assume that clothing and apparel would be the top selling category, but you would be wrong. The top category is technology, so expect sales of the Kindle, iPad, laptops, netbooks and other such devices to do very well.

Best Buy still has a few back-to-schools offers on, but hurry, as there are not many left. Just expect this weekend to be one big made rush, as there are some parents who have yet to get their kids all the things that they need for the new year at school or college.

We expect to see a number of stores offering deals on certain items needed for school, one such retailer is Best Buy.

As always Best Buy have an area on their website dedicated for back-to-school deals, and is broken down into categories. These are as follows: College, High School and Elementary, with the former also having four sub categories.

Many states in the U.S. have already had their Tax-free weekend, but there are still those who have yet to receive this great discount from the government. The next is the Texas Tax Free Weekend 2010 and runs from August 20 – 22, so is an ideal time to bag a back to school bargain.

If we have a look at previous years, we can expect to see clothing items of less than $100 exempt from tax, this works out to an $8 saving for every $100 that you spend. Window on State Government points out that most backpacks are below $100, and will be one of the most purchased items – well apart from footwear and clothing items.

We have to remind students that brief cases do not fall under the exemption list, as this is classed as luggage, which to me seems very strange. The list of products that qualify for exemption has been expanding each year, with 2010 being the best to-date.

Some of the most popular back to school items to be purchased at a cheaper rate over the weekend will include Calculators, Binders, Composition books, Lunch boxes, Pens, Writing tablets and much more. What will you be purchasing during Texas Tax Free Weekend 2010?
