The plans were revealed earlier this month which is when the news kicked off globally, after an image of the concept vehicle made its way into Forbes magazine. The attention that the idea received also led to a YouTube video of a 3D concept of the Audi R8 Limo going viral. After just a week of being online it received nearly 40,000 views. A Facebook page was also created which has been swamped by fans that are eager to see this vehicle is produced.

As you would expect from an innovative design like this, the Audi R8 Limo will feature onboard gizmos and gadgets and will combine the luxury of limousines with the sportiness of the Audi R8, making it the ultimate way to arrive in style, perfect for turning up to a wedding or a ball in. although this may have just started out as a concept, the overwhelming response the vehicle has received has led not only to plans for production but Carbonate UK and Limo Broker are pushing for it to be ready for hire by April/May time, just in time for the traditional wedding season.

We already gave you our first look into this in January, which we then followed up again in March with the then current top 5, now we have an updated list and the results is no surprise.

As cars get more technically advanced they in turn become safer and as a result there are less deaths on the roads – well in most places. Only the more expensive luxury cars used to have such features, but as they get even newer tech those old yet still impressive safety features get passed down to the cheaper models.

This used to happen at such a slow rate, but because technology moves at such a faster rate than ever before, the turnaround is now much quicker. Now we know that some cars will always be safer than others, so it comes as no surprise that a recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study shows that it is the SUV that is said to be one of the safest models.

One of the biggest changes that have helped to reduce crashes was the introduction of electronic stability control or ESC and it is on the SUV where it has been most affective. When a small vehicle used to lose control it did it in a subtle way, this was far more dramatic with an SUV, as the inertia was much greater.

If an SUV was to lose control then chances are it would topple over, so you can see how a safety feature like this would have a greater affect on a larger vehicle than a smaller one. WSJ has been looking into the IIHS report, which is conducted every few years, and we can clearly see a decline in death rates in SUVs. The average death rates for 1999-2002 SUV models were at 82 per million, and in the most recent report it shows that those numbers have dropped.

Over 150 models took part in the recent study, from SUVs, Hatchbacks, Saloons etc. Now we have learned that these Sports Utility Vehicles are safer than ever, but it is the Minivan that is seen as the safest, as the death rate in these are lower than any other model. Now there are a number of reasons for this, but the biggest reason has to be due to the fact that there is a much larger safety cell for passengers.

I can remember as a child collecting Corgi cars, and was so envious of my father and how he could drive. The moment I was of age I went for my driving test and the rest as they say is history. Now many years later we know that a car is more than just a tool to get you to and from work, it is very personal to you. What your car says about you can be both a benefit and a hindrance, and just remember that the brand matters.

Now we are not saying that all women are shallow, but there are still those out there who see a guy in a big sports car and love it. However, more classy women look out for luxury brands. Having said that, men do the same. If they see a guy in a certain car they will be thinking all kinds of things, and most of them are not appropriate to post on this website.

The person who offers the most honest view about what car you drive is Jeremy Clarkson; again he has some very strange views. Drivers who have a Mercedes-Benz means that you wish to tell people that you are proud and can afford things like this. However, this is not always the case, I own one and I am not a proud person at all.

Now if you have a BMW it means that you love to keep up with what is hot, but also means that a Merc is just out of reach. If you have a Toyota it means that you are happy and you do not need to show off and buy an expensive car to prove it.

For us the worst drivers on the streets are those who own convertibles. They tend to be show-offs who will have that roof down even when it is cold. Maybe most of them know that when they put the roof up the car becomes so ugly – only those with a hardtop will not mind driving with it up in the rain.

So what will we all make of the Audi R8 GT Spyder? Well our first thought is on price expectations, and one guess is that you will not get any change from $200,000. It is the price that could make or break the new version, so the German automaker needs to get it right.

This will be a lightweight droptop, which you can see some spy shots on Autoblog. Looking at some of the photos you can clearly see that Audi has gone for a more aggressive stance for when it comes to driving in the open air. Forgive me for this, but I hate soft-top convertibles, when they are up they seem to look a little ugly – then that all changes when the roof is lowered.

Audi is to fit the 5.2-liter V10 powerplant in the R8 GT Spyder, this is the same engine used in the V8 R8 Coupe. What you will get is 560HP of pure power propelling it to 60mph in just 3.8 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 193mph. We cannot say for certain how well it will perform around corners compared to the coupe version, as we know that doing away with the roof makes a car flex a little more.

Audi will not doubt find a solution to making the chassis a little stiffer, but one would assume that this would come at a cost – weight. Having said that, Audi is expected to use a number of materials to reduce weight in other areas, such as the windscreen, engine cover and the rear wing.

This service will offer owners a dedicated team of service experts that have a nationwide network of tow trucks. Users will provide their vehicle identification number to register the app, which will have their customer information on file.

Some of the features that are offered to Audi owners include; drivers can select which service they need e.g. Jump start, tow, tire change, and fuel delivery. There are also details on dealers so users can find a dealer close to their current location.

Only 333 are being made with ninety vehicles making their way to the US.

According to Chris Woodyard from USA Today if you want to own one of the supercars it will set you back a cool $196,800. Then on top of that you have to pay $1,250 destination and handling charge, but an extra twelve hundred dollars won’t bother you if have just laid out almost $200,000 in the first place.

The Audi is a breathed on version of the popular R8, but its 5.2-liter V10 has an extra 35hp delivering 560 horsepower. The bodywork is more than 180 lbs lighter than the original even though it has rear hatch spoiler and diffuser.

It also has an R tronic sequential manual transmission, and when you put this all together will give you a top speed of 199mph and 0-60 in only 3.6 seconds. Made of mainly carbon fiber and a Quattro four wheel drive system makes for a highly desirable car if you can afford it.

Last year’s winner, the reliable VW Polo will have to make way this year for either the BMW 5 series, the Audi A8 or the shock nominee Nissan Leaf. Although people did not expect the Leaf to make the top three, all the finalists are certainly worthy.

Some cars that didn’t quite make the final three are being commended with honorable mentions as they made it to the top ten shortlist for World Car of the Year. The full shortlist which includes the BMW X3 and Audi A1 can be seen at The Tech Herald.

The winner of this prestigious prize is to be announced at New York’s International Auto Show which kicks off April 21st, where awards for World Green Car and World Performance car of the Year will also be presented.

Let us get the bad news out of the way first, there is to be a hybrid version, but it will not be released until 2015 – a lot can change in four years in the motor industry. However, the thought of having a hybrid that can achieve 38MPG and reach 62MPH using its electric motor could be worth the wait.

Autoblog learned from AutoWeek of the projected wait time for the green-vehicle, but they did offer a more positive outlook by saying how much they were looking forward to the supercharged version of the A6 with its 300BHP engine. Audi still has no hybrid on the market, but the Q5 crossover will be their first – maybe they will be able to tell if they can break the hybrid market?

They have used the system in the A3 and the TT, so this is an inevitable step.

Which has learned from Audi that the idea will go from concept to production, even though it was first rumored not to be coming to the small car. However, we are uncertain when the vehicle will be released and what price it will cost. We have to wonder if it will be much longer after the standard version of the Audi A1, which will be in August in Europe and later in 2011 throughout the rest of the world? Automobile Mag reports that the price will start from €15,800 ($19,900) in Germany, so you can be certain that the Quattro will come with a higher premium.

Auto 123 was at a recent Audi “Fascination of Quattro” event. They were shocked to learn that not only was the four-wheel drive A1 attending, but they would also get the chance to test drive one. To truly test how well the car performs, they had to drive in what could only be described as a “winter rally stage,” well that was how the reviewer put it.

We do not have any details as to what engine will be used, but you can be sure that it will be more powerful and refined than those used in the standard A1. There are no plans of a U.S. release, but as drivers in North America start their love affair with small vehicles – Ford Fiesta and the upcoming Focus a fine example – you can be sure that they will want to get their hands on it.
