Let us get the bad news out of the way first, there is to be a hybrid version, but it will not be released until 2015 – a lot can change in four years in the motor industry. However, the thought of having a hybrid that can achieve 38MPG and reach 62MPH using its electric motor could be worth the wait.

Autoblog learned from AutoWeek of the projected wait time for the green-vehicle, but they did offer a more positive outlook by saying how much they were looking forward to the supercharged version of the A6 with its 300BHP engine. Audi still has no hybrid on the market, but the Q5 crossover will be their first – maybe they will be able to tell if they can break the hybrid market?

You also have the choice of different entertainment systems; these are Bose or Bang & Olufsen.

The design of the new interior is more thought out for the driver, as it seems to wrap-around and envelop you – something you do not see on many cars. How many vehicles have you sat in only to find that some of the controls are not pointed towards you, making it hard to see and use them?

The curved design of the new A6 interior means that the driver will always be in control, so you are no longer a passenger – you will now be the captain of your ship – come on we have all called ourselves the captain when your wife tries to tell you what to do.

According to a press release that Audi sent to Autoblog, they have taken a huge amount of care with every detail of the interior, something that has been a major part of their vehicles for the past few years now. You can see that a mix of layered-wood veneer, leather and metals has been used.

One of the best parts of the design has to be those seats; they offer ventilation as well as a massage function. That is something that I am certain will be ideal for those who use the car for business and get a bad back or rear end – not sure I would use the function, it might send me to sleep. Jeff Glucker from Autoblog has been looking at the specs and features of the 2012 Audi A6, even the new hybrid version. He starts with the cockpit design, saying that it almost becomes one with the driver, as it seems to surround the driver.

As well as the hybrid model (which we will get to in a moment) there is a selection of other powertrains to choose from. There are two gasoline and three diesel engines, all engines have an increased fuel-efficiency of 19 percent. Glucker reports that the most economical of the range is the 2.0-liter TDI, with an estimated 48mpg.

As for the A6 hybrid, the new 2012 model will come along after the sedan version. A 2.0 TFSI engine and an electric motor will power the new model; these are mated to an eight-speed transmission. You can select just the electric motor to run, the gasoline engine will still kick in once you hit 62mph plus. This new model certainly shows that it is not just Mercedes that can produce luxury cars from Germany.
