Over the years we’ve seen some great games appear online, with many of them being flash based, which as you will know will limit iOS devices, as they do not support flash, and doubt they ever will.

However, we were surprised to see Atari Breakout Online working on an iOS device, as we had assumed it was a flash game, but obviously it is not. Atari Breakout Online in HTML5 – We have already seen the popular game running on the iPad, although for some reason Google has not allowed the game to be played on the iPhone or iPod touch.

We know that Android users will always run iOS devices down for not offering Flash support, and we also shared in this frustration. However, Steve Jobs always maintained that he would never allow his iOS devices to support flash because it’s too buggy, and so would compromise the performance of those iOS devices.

He must have a point, because YouTube used to be flashed based, and has now been supporting HTML5 instead, as it’s much more stable, and runs much smoother as well. However, there are still websites out there that insists on using Flash, and so limits their reach, as not offering iOS users an alternative will turn them away from the website, or services they are offering.

For those of you who have been living under a rock will wonder what all this Atari Breakout online is all about, as the last they knew it was an arcade game back in 1976. Well, Google has been celebrating the 37th birthday of the game, and so has a novel way to get us to enjoy the simple game once again.

In true Google fashion they have put a spin on Atari Breakout, because when you search the phrase on Google Images, all the images you usually see are then shrunk and float to the top, and then the classic pin bar appears at the bottom, along with the so-called ball. From there you will be able to play the game by moving your cursor left or right. Since Google made this game available via their Image Search, users have been trying their best to beat the high scores, so what was your highest score?

If you are playing Atari Breakout online while on your iPad, then all you to do is move your finger from left to right and vice-versa, although it would have been cool to offer support for the iPads tilt controls.

The fun game is not going to be available all the time, so if you have an iOS device, then might we suggest installing Breakout Boost+ by Atari for only $0.99, more details of which can be found on iTunes.

We have a special treat for those of you feeling a little bored whilst internet surfing, as Google has dropped another of their famous browser games for you to enjoy. This one is a little different though, as hidden inside Google Images is none other than Atari’s classic Breakout game which you can play and attempt to rack up a high score.

For those that are not aware, it is the 37th anniversary of the classic game and Google has wasted no time in letting everyone celebrate the history of the game together, whilst browsing on their image website. Simply type “Atari Breakout” into Google Images and watch as Google magically transforms the search results into a playable game.

We have loved seeing Google’s vast array of interactive Doodles over the last few years on their homepage, but this is right up there as well in terms of fun. Even better, is that Google has included a high score ticker on the right hand side, letting users get a little competitive with each other to achieve the best score.

If you pay close attention to the blocks, you’ll also notice how they consist of Atari’s original game and its various iterations down the years. The game may be a little boring for some of you – but we wonder how many of you have already managed to secure a score well into the 1000s on just a few balls.

Once you have passed a few levels, you’ll also notice that the brand changes – to Santander for example on level 2. You may want to mute the sound though in the top left settings, as it does tend to get a little annoying after regular play.

What is your top score on the game at the moment? You can share on Google Plus if you deem it worthy enough for others to see.

We have some sad news to bring you now, as it looks like famed game maker Atari is filing for bankruptcy. Unlike companies such as HMV and Blockbuster which appear to be going out of business completely, it has been reported that Atari US is actually filing for bankruptcy in a bid to break free of Atari SA, which used to be known as Infogrames – a move which they hope will enable them to become a separate entity and private company.

The legendary brand who brought us the likes of Pong and Asteroids is looking to continue operating without Atari SA attached, but will need to generate around $5.25 million first in order to achieve their targets.

The main reason for the bankruptcy 11 filing, is thought to be the ongoing debts that French parent Atari SA, have built up. If successful in their plan, the US arm of Atari are hoping that they’ll be able to develop games for digital and mobile platforms in the future.

There are already a ‘few offers on the table‘ according to The Verge, but given the status that Atari has in the industry as one of the remaining retro companies left in the business, we have a feeling that it will be a happy ending for Atari as nobody wants to see them go out of business due to debts that other subsidiaries may have incurred.

An additional report over at The LA Times reveals that neither Atari SA or Infogrames have been profitable for over 10 years, which gives you an idea why Atari US may be looking to go solo. Head to the sources above for the full story, but hopefully there will be a positive ending out of it unlike what we have seen with HMV and Blockbuster recently.

What are your memories of Atari in the gaming industry? Do you think sticking to mobile and digital based games will be a good move for the future?

There seems to have been some confusion over a recent story, but we are pleased to say that Atari clarify PlayStation Store misunderstanding over queue and back online. People were a little confused with what was on Twitter when they discussed about Sony’s PSN service coming back online or being delayed. They now say that Daggerdale will actually go in a publishing queue, a there are other titles that were due to be launched first, reports 1Up.

PSN users seemed to misunderstand Atari when they said that Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale’s was due to be released on May 31, 2011, but will now go in a queue, as the service will not back online in time. We now know that this is not true, but it gave people hope that the PlayStation Store would be up and running my Tuesday. However, we now have news that could see the store returning very soon.

It seems that certain parts of Asia will see the PlayStation Store come online within the coming days; this was due to the fact that PSN went down for maintenance. Now it could just be a coincidence, but why else would they take the service down again if it has only been live for just over two weeks?

We have now seen six PSN Store updates missed, and we are fast approaching our seventh. Users today have been experiencing issues with signing-in in the U.S. and Europe, which is seen as a sign that Sony is working hard to offer us full service once more. We all need to watch this space, but the smart money is on Tuesday.

If you are looking to buy The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings you may be looking for reviews to see if the game is up to much, recently both Bit-Tech.net and GameReactor published reviews and it has to be said that things are looking promising.

GameReactor’s review can be seen here, they score the game 9/0 in terms of graphics, gameplay, sound and lasting appeal, which results in an overall score of 9/10, they especially compliment the game’s stunning graphics. Apparently the developer’s attention to detail is great and the game’s lighting is awesome, there are some slight rendering problems, however on the whole visually the game can barely be faulted. As for the story it is said to be gripping and full of twists and turns.

Bit-Tech’s detailed review can be seen here, again they compliment the game heavily and score it 95/100. They say that The Witcher 2 is one of the most involving and exciting RPGs they have seen in a long time, if you choose to hack and slash your way through the game without concentrating on the story it would be a travesty. The bottom line seems to be the more you play and explore the more you will enjoy, once immersed in the story line you “will find an experience that’ll be tough to beat”.

More reviews will be published over the next few days, therefore as we read more we will keep you posted. Have your bought The Witcher 2? If so, are you impressed so far?

We have some rather interesting news now for those of you that remember Atari’s classic shoot ‘em up arcade game Centipede (which was first released back in 1980), as we’ve just received word that a new game – titled Centipede: Infestation – is heading to the Nintendo Wii and 3DS.

According to a recent article by Wade Hinkle at gamingunwrapped.com, both Atari and video game developer WayForward are currently working on the new Centipede: Infestation game, and hope to release the title sometime in the fall, although we don’t exactly know when at this stage.

The Cenitpede: Infestation game – which has been described as a post-apocalyptic action experience with a run-n-gun shooting style – sees players taking on the role of an orphaned teenage hero called Max, as he makes his way through the wasteland while trying to fight off giant bugs.

As gamers make their way through seven different environments and 40 different stages, they will find themselves surrounded by mutated spiders, grubs, moths, caterpillars, beetles and boss insects. To defeat the mutant creatures, players have to use the various different weapons available.

These include a Mine Launcher, Nuke Cannon, Freezethrower, Lightning Orb Gun and more. The game also comes with a 2-player co-op multiplayer feature, which enables players to team up with a friend if they choose to. You can view a trailer for the upcoming game via gamingunwrapped.com.

Do you like the sound of the Centipede: Infestation game?

Test Drive Unlimited 2 has now been out a couple of weeks and we have heard a lot of reports suggesting that the game is far from perfect, Eden Games has now revealed that they will release a free DLC pack to show their appreciation for the game’s loyal players who have been bearing with a lot of TDU2 problems.

According to the Test Drive Unlimited 2 forums, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers will be able to download the Exploration Pack for free, this consists of new wrecks that will unlock the 1969 Dodge Charger and the Lancia Stratos version Rallye.

Eden Games claim that feedback from the community has proven to be very useful and helped them identify and resolve a lot of common issues, an update for all platforms should be rolled out shortly.

It is nice to hear that developers are giving something back to gamers, however skeptics would say that gamers are buying an incomplete product and having to beta test it for the developers, what do you think?

We are unsure as to when this DLC will become available, therefore we will have to keep you posted, have you been frustrated with the many Test Drive Unlimited 2 issues?

A couple of weeks ago we brought our readers a character/living space customization trailer for Atari and Eden Games’ much-awaited racing game, Test Drive Unlimited 2 (TDU2). This was followed a week later by another trailer, which showed off the game’s vehicle customization.

Now we have even more great news for those of you waiting for the game’s arrival on February 8th / February 11th, as it appears that a couple of new trailers – including a rather lengthy gameplay trailer and a few more screenshots have made their way online recently.

As Harry Monogenis over on the gamrfeed.vgchartz.com website recently reported, Atari has decided to whet fans appetites that little bit more, by releasing a new batch of screenshots (which can be viewed via the vgchartz.com link) for the Test Drive Unlimited 2 title.

Don’t worry if you missed the TDU2 Jaguar trailer that surfaced online recently, as it can be seen over on the gamefocus.ca website. As the author Marko Djordjevic notes, the trailer shows off just a few of the Jaguar models that will be featured within the Test Drive Unlimited 2 game.

This follows on from the previous trailer they released last week, which as we previously mentioned here showed off the character customization element of the game. Gamers will not only be able to customize their in-game characters and living space, but now it appears their vehicles as well.

Players will be able to customize their cars to the way they want, by changing things such as the body color, decals and interior.

We have a treat for fans of the Ghostbusters franchise, as we can confirm that a follow-up title to the Ghostbusters video game that was released last year, is on the way from Atari and Sony next year.

As reported from VG247, the title will be called Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime and it will be developed by relatively unknown Chilean-based company Wanako Studios.

Unlike the third-person based Ghostbuster title handled by Terminal Reality, Sanctum of Slime will be an over the top, arcade style co-op adventure game, with support for up to four players on screen.

Details are very scarse in terms of storyline, but we’re hearing that the rookie featured in the last game will be heavily featured in SoS. However, it doesn’t look like the Ghostbuster film actors, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and Co will be returning for Sanctum of Slime.

The good news though, is that some early screenshots of the game have already been uncovered, courtesy of USA Today, who also confirm that players will be able to drive the Ecto-4WD vehicle. The game is due out in Spring, on the PSN, Xbox Live and PC.

What are your early impressions of the game, did you enjoy the first title?
