Many consumers who picked up the original Asus Eee Pad Transformer have been quite happy with their purchase, and some of our readers have commented on how great the device is. Now today we have some good news for you as the Android ICS rollout for the Transformer begins via an over the air update.

Owners of the device have been pretty patient for the long promised software update after a few delays. Owners of the Eee Pad Transformer Prime were treated to the new operating system a while back even though there were a few teething problems. Owners reported that the update wouldn’t recognize their devices serial number and wouldn’t download.

The problems didn’t end there as after updating to Android Ice Cream Sandwich some users experienced a strange issue that saw the device suddenly rebooting without warning. Luckily this was quickly fixed by Asus with a firmware update, and the company has now taken to its Facebook page to reveal the start of the Android ICS rollout.

It has started arriving to owners of the device in Taiwan ahead of the software rolling out to other regions in due time. The company stated that it “prides itself on delivering the best products to end-users”. It added that this means it will continue to improve the experience of its products with regular firmware upgrades.

They announced the availability of the update for TF01 firmware v.9.2.1.11 for users in Taiwan, and although didn’t give an exact date for other regions, did say it would be soon. Asus also revealed they will be revealing “several” new products at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Spain, but promised continued support for current products throughout their life cycle.

This comes shortly after the company released the unlocked bootloader for the Transformer Prime, which is now available from its support website. It has to be remembered though installing this will invalidate your warranty. Below is a video of the Transformer Prime running Android 4.0.Update: It seems US owners of the device can expect the update today.

Are you happy with your Eee Pad Transformer?

The latest Asus Transformer Prime tablet PC has been in the news a lot recently, which was mainly when the device started to receive the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Some users once upgrading their device found that it would suddenly reboot without warning. Today though we have news of the original Eee Pad Transformer, as Asus reveal the time frame for the ICS update for the older device.

A user of the device took to Facebook to ask how long it takes for Google to approve the version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the device. According to a report over at Electronista Asus replied that the Eee Pad Transformer will receive the new software in the middle of February.

This is not the first time a February date has been mentioned though, as earlier this month we told you that Asus had originally said it would be coming in January. The company then withdrew this date but an insider from the company then said the month of February will be when the update will be arriving.

The latest word from Asus didn’t go in to details about the rollout of the software, but the Wi-Fi only releases should allow users to upgrade in a matter of days now. The new operating system will bring the updated interface with improved speed, but it’s not thought to be as a major change seen with the phones.

Owners of the Transformer Prime saw the update released last week even though the device was released quite a while after the original device. They will see an even faster operating system thanks to the units Tegra 3 quad-core processor.

Do you own the Eee Pad Transformer? What do you think of it?

If you have been following CES 2012 news closely you will be aware that Asus has already rolled out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich for the recently released Transformer Prime, well now we finally have an idea as to when ICS will hit the original Asus Eee Pad Transformer.

Apparently Asus recently suggested that the original Transformer (TF101 model) would be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in a matter of days, however this statement was then retracted. The guys over at AndroidPolice were getting a little frustrated with all the rumors and false announcements so reached out to one of their contacts at Asus U.S. – apparently the update will now arrive in early February, this isn’t great news, but it at least ensures that you won’t keep checking for updates for the remainder of January.

Obviously it is always an annoyance when there is such mystery surrounding an update like this, but at least we know Asus continues to support a 10-month old device which was first revealed at CES 2011, hopefully this will mean that the Transformer Prime will also see such support and perhaps get a taster of Android 5.0 when it arrives – we will have to wait and see.

When the update does go live it is said to hit North America and Taiwan first. You should receive a notification telling you that an update is available, however you can manually trigger the update by going into Settings, About Tablet and then Check for Updates – you may want to back up important data beforehand just-in-case.

The update to Android ICS should vastly improve the Eee Pad Transformer’s performance, features and user experience – you can see an overview of what to expect from ICS via this link it has to be said that this is one of, if not the most substantial Android updates to date, let’s just hope it runs nicely on what’s now considered ‘old’ hardware.

When we first began talking about the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer’s successor we were excited to hear that it would feature one of Nvidia’s Kal-El Tegra 3 processors, well we have just come across some outstanding benchmark results which prove that this tablet is in a league of its own.

Recently an article was posted on tech2.in.com featured an image showing AnTuTu benchmark results, here we get to see the results of lots of Android tablets and smartphones, however everything has been overshadowed by the results which the ASUS Transformer Prime delivered.

The AnTuTu benchmark tests out your Android device’s memory, CPU, 2D / 3D graphics and database IO performance – it also tests out the SD card read / write speeds. In the tests it is clear that the CPU Integer, CPU float-point and RAM performance is head and shoulders above anything we have ever seen before. You can see the benchmark results below.

If you look carefully you will see that the Prime reaches AnTuTu’s 10,000 point limit, therefore we can’t be sure just how much higher the score would be if there was no maximum score. What’s interesting is that the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S II scored just 6000 in the same test, neither of these devices are considered slow, which means the Transformer Prime is unfathomably fast.

The results also give us some insight as to how much faster the Prime performs when compared to other tablets, the Motorola Xoom and original Transformer score less than 5000 in the benchmark test, however we have to remember that benchmark results do not always equate to real-world performance. That said, we must not forget that this tablet has not even been released yet, therefore new firmware updates may improve things even further.

When previously speaking about the Kal-El platform we heard that it will deliver great performance, and we now have evidence of this, however we have also been promised low power consumption, therefore we can’t wait to see just how much battery life you will get from a single charge.

Do you think that this tablet will set the standard for others to follow?

We recently told you about the upcoming Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2, with its quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 it is easy to forget its dual-core younger brother, but today we have heard that the original Eee Pad Transformer has booked a table and should be snacking on Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in the future.

This news was exclusively revealed by Pocket-Link, we don’t yet have any indication as to when an update will be rolled out to bring Android 4.0 ICS to the tablet / netbook hybrid, in fact all we have to go by is the following quote:

“Transformer will be getting update to ICS – but we can’t provide a schedule at this stage”

Currently the Eee Pad Transformer runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, it should have no trouble running Ice Cream Sandwich as it features a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, at least 16GB of local storage and a 10.1-inch display which outputs at 1280 × 800, that said when we got to see Ice Cream Sandwich at Google and Samsung’s recent press event a lot of the changes and optimizations seemed to be smartphone-centric.

As and when we hear of details regarding a launch date for the Eee Pad Transformer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update we will keep you posted. We hope that ASUS don’t keep us waiting too long for this update, perhaps this could be the first-ever Ice Cream Sandwich – we are sure that this will cause a rise in sales.

What improvements would you like to see the next major firmware update bring to the Transformer?

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has sold very well, therefore it seems inevitable that ASUS will release a second-generation Eee Pad Transformer to build on its success, a recent article posted on AndroidCommunity talks about some Transformer 2 details which have apparently been leaked by “multiple sources”.

We are always a bit sceptical when we hear that multiple unnamed sources have leaked details regarding a new product, however we like to write about these rumors just in case they turn out to be legitimate, so let’s get into the nitty gritty.

According to the article the Transformer 2 could well be the first NVIDIA Kal-El quad-core tablet to ever hit the shelves, we do not know too much about the Kal-El SoC, however AndroidCommunity suggest that this may be the NVIDIA Tegra 3 which will be built on the new 40nm architecture – this new architecture should allow cooler running temperatures and better performance / efficiency. We do think that the Tegra 3 name doesn’t really suit a quad-core SoC, therefore we like the idea of calling it the Tegra 4 instead.

The original ASUS Eee Pad Transformer was no slouch with its 1 GHz dual-core nVidia Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip, however imagine how much better this tablet will be with more processing power and better efficiency – we really think ASUS could be onto a winner with this one. Below we have embedded a graph which seems to suggest that Kal-El SoCs will deliver 5x the performance of Tegra 2 SoCs.

Currently we are led to believe that the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2 will arrive this holiday season, seeing as how its predecessor arrived in late March this year we are quite shocked to hear rumors suggesting that a follow-up device could arrive within a such a relatively small amount of time – if I bought the first-gen Transformer I think I would be frustrated by this, however we have to remember that these are rumors and nothing has been confirmed by ASUS.

What else would you like to see from the second-gen Transformer?

Back in March we brought you a price and release date update for the much-anticipated Asus Eee Pad Slider tablet, which we said was due to arrive sometime in June. We now have another UK release date update for you however, as Asus now say to expect the Android tablet to arrive in August.

According to a recent article by Lewis Curdie over at mobot.net, the company has recently confirmed that the Asus Eee Pad Slider will arrive in the UK sometime in August, as will the 3G model of the Eee Pad Transformer. The Eee Pad Transformer has only been available as a Wi-Fi-only model up until now.

For those that may need reminding of its features, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is powered by a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, runs the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS and comes with a 10.1-inch screen. The Asus Eee Pad Slider has many of the same specs, as well as front and rear-facing cameras.

Where the Asus Eee Pad Slider differs however is in the fact that it comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, which slides out from behind its screen and can be angled to allow for laptop-style typing. Although Lewis notes that this does make the Asus Eee Pad tablet noticeably heavier.

Will you be buying the Asus Eee Pad Slider or the 3G model of the Transformer?

We told you last month that the new Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet PC sold out on its first day of being released. It still doesn’t look like that stock levels have improved, with the news that some Asus Eee Pad Transformer pre-orders are being cancelled.

James Cushing from thegadgets.net is reporting that the most popular Android tablet PC so far, is selling out everywhere. Also retailer Target have been emailing customers who have the device on pre-order and cancelling them. In the message they say the product is not currently available from any of their sources,

Currently the device is still showing on the company’s website, but showing out of stock, and also the link to purchase the unit has gone. Asus themselves had previously stated they were suffering from a bottleneck which was causing shortages in production.

Originally they wanted to produce 300,000 units per month, but so far only achieved 10,000 per month due to shortages in components. With the amount of other Android devices on their way to market, and problems ongoing in Japan component shortages are not likely to improve in the short term.

Have you been trying to get hold of an Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet?

Now it won’t have been the first new tablet PC to do it, but the Asus Eee Pad Transformer has sold out on its first day. Earlier this month we had an early impressions review of the smart looking device from Asus that allows you to dock a keyboard and turn it into a netbook style device.

Shane McGlaun of Android Community is reporting that Asus has a site showing where you can get your hands on the device. We told you last week that the tablet will be launching today in North America and Canada, and Asus recently said that stock levels would be low on launch day.

Now most of the sites that are listed as places you can buy the Asus Eee Pad Transformer have already sold out. There are twenty four different retail outlets listed by Asus, which include physical stores and online outlets. These include Amazon, Best Buy.com, Target, Sears, Office Depot, to name but a few.

To recap the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is a 10.1-inch device which runs Android 3.0, and is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. You have a full QWERTY keyboard but can use the optional docking station, and battery life is 9.5 hours or 16 hours with the extra keyboard.

If stock levels were already low it’s not surprising the impressive looking device is selling fast, use the link to find the full list of retailers stocking the Asus Eee Pad Transformer,

If you live in the US or Canada and you’ve been waiting to hear about a price and release date for the much-anticipated Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb run Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet, then I’m pleased to say that we finally have the news that you’ve been waiting for.

According to Chris Davies over at slashgear.com, Asus has just confirmed that the Transformer – which also has an optional battery-toting keyboard dock – will be available in both the US and Canada as from April 26th. The 16GB model is priced up at $399, while the 32GB will cost you $499.

The keyboard attachment will be sold separately for $149. Besides offering a QWERTY keyboard, the dock also comes with a 4-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB 2.0 ports and a battery that offers 8 hours usage, which when combined with the tablet provides up to 16 hours run time.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor and features a 10.1-inch display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, an HDMI port and a microSD card slot. It also comes with a few Asus apps pre-loaded onto it, including a remote desktop tool.

Although the Transformer launched in the UK earlier this month, the demand soon outstripped the supply and many customers were faced with shipping date delays. Are you thinking of buying the Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet?
