One of this year’s most successful portable devices has to be the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, recently we heard how it will be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then we heard that a successor was on the way, now we have some information regarding the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2 technical specifications.

Sadly we don’t have a full breakdown of specs for you, however what we do know is that it will boast the same form-factor as its predecessor (a 10-inch display with a detachable keyboard) and we can also confirm that it will be powered by one of Nvidia’s Kal-El quad-core SoC quad-core processors (you can find out all about Kal-El here), but that’s not all – there will also be USB and mini-HDMI ports and an SD card reader.

We don’t have dimensions either, but if you check out AllThingsD you can see a few sneak peaks of the Transformer 2, ignoring the keyboard the tablet is just 8.3mm thick, which makes its big brother seem a bit chubby (12.98mm).

All of this information was recently revealed by Jonney Shih (Asus CEO), we can confirm that it will run Ice Cream Sandwich – however it is unclear as to whether this will come installed out-of-the-box, or if a subsequent update will bring it. If you were worried about battery life we are told that you should get up to 14.5 hours of usage from a single charge.

Sadly that’s all we know for now, however we are told that an official announcement will come on November 9, therefore we should have some press images, videos and full tech specs by then – follow me on Twitter for the latest news.

Do you own the Asus Eee Pad Transformer? If so, how would you like its success to differ?

While the iPad has dominated the tablet market, there are still some devices that have done quite well in terms of sales and reviews. The original ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is one such device which also saw shortages when it was first released. Now we can tell you that the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2 says hello before release in a video that you can see below.

The company put up a teaser video on its Facebook page and called it “the next transformation”, and Electronista are reporting in the quick glimpse of the device you get reveals a much slimmer unit compared to the original.

Its design features a glossy black and brushed aluminum shell that looks to have been designed with the company’s own Zenbooks, and Apple’s MacBook Air in mind. Unfortunately the company hasn’t been quick in coming forward with details about the upcoming device. It is thought it will have a similar ten inch display and be one of the first tablets to feature a quad-core processor.

It will again feature its big selling point the add-on keyboard that brings with it a trackpad and an extra battery to prolong the life of the main unit. The Transformer 2 could be available at the beginning of next month, but may not reach the US before the end of the year. ASUS have already stated the device is going to be more expensive than the $499 original, and we will have to wait and see if that is the case.

Meanwhile Pocket-lint is reporting the original version is to be getting the Android Ice Cream update, and could be arriving next month. Do you like the look of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2?
