As many of you will know Assassin’s Creed: Revelations hit the shelves yesterday and know doubt will have been picked up by many gamers, whether they had pre-ordered it or not.

After it was announced that this year’s installment of Assassin’s Creed, which is to be released next week, would be the last involving Ezio Auditore, many of us were left wondering whether there would be another. We previously brought you news that an Assassin’s Creed movie was on the cards, although it was later reported to be destined for failure, and now Ubisoft has confirmed that there will be another game appearing in 2012.

The reports suggest that the game is already under development, which would make sense considering it is to be released probably this time next year. The news was announced during an earnings call recently where Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO, confirmed a new Assassin’s Creed installment would be released next year.

Guillemot was also recently reported to have said a few things about Nintendo, seemingly giving them tips for successful sales of their flagship handheld console, the 3DS. He believes that better software is key to winning the mobile gaming war, which basically suggested that better games were needed in order for continual success with sales of the device. He also believes that the Wii U will be a great console.

Unfortunately when it came to details about next year’s installment of Assassin’s Creed, he refused to reveal any. I don’t know about you but the fact that the franchise will be continuing annually is exciting enough for us. In regards to more recent activities involving the franchise, Guillemot claimed that the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations pre-orders are significantly higher than last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’s were, as PSU explains. However he believes that overall sales will be significantly less than last year’s game.

Are you excited to hear there will be another Assassin’s Creed game next year?

A couple of weeks ago we brought you news that Sony Pictures were finalizing a deal to bring the popular RPG game, Assassin’s Creed, to the big screen. Some of the details of that deal have emerged since and have left Hollywood spectators shocked and flabbergasted.

According to Vulture, the deal is not as normal as it appears on the surface, as it seems Ubisoft have managed to gain themselves a substantial amount of control over the project. This means that despite Sony gaining the rights to the movie, control of things like release date, script, principal cast and budget, are all out of their hands. This amount of power over a movie is unheard of in the industry, even for a successful director like Steven Spielberg.

Some Hollywood spectators believe that this amount of power can only ultimately lead to the downfall and doom of the movie, as they have seen it happen many times before with other big video game adaptation movies. One Hollywood agent and video game publisher representative believes the Assassin’s Creed movie may never be made at all, claiming the deal is a waste of time. They said ‘The level of control Sony gave up means, effectively, that Assassin’s Creed will never – and I mean never – get made.’

The likes of Universal Studios, Warner Bros. and DreamWorks are reported to be among the list of movie labels to have turned down the so called Creed project deal. A certain studio chief was reported to have said ‘They want to be able to pull the plug on the whole movie’s development if they decide to. It’s ridiculous.’ It is thought that the reason for Ubisoft’s insistent control is because their franchise is still currently huge, meaning they are protective over it as they are fearful that a bad movie adaptation could taint the franchise. This therefore begs the question ‘why make a movie at all?’

What do you think of this deal? Would you like to see an Assassin’s Creed movie made?

If you’re looking for a decent game on your mobile to treat yourself to in order to keep yourself occupied this Christmas then Ubisoft might just have what you’re looking for. The company has announced its popular AAA series, Assassin’s Creed, will be making its way to the iPhone and iPad this holiday season.

If you’re a fan of the franchise there is no doubt you will the game however it has been adapted into a board game style strategy game as opposed to an RPG, so will bring a completely different experience which players of the series may find hard to get used to. The iOS version will be called Assassin’s Creed Recollection and is expected to be available at iTunes sometime in November.

The game features key locations and characters from the Assassin’s Creed franchise including Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed 2. Unfortunately there won’t be any characters from the fourth in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The gameplay is described as being board game with ‘political battle style’ and also features a multiplayer mode.

As Kotaku explains the game’s campaign is a lengthy 8 -10 hours long, which for an iOS game is pretty good value. Those who download the game will also get the Assassin’s Creed Embers short movie, which follows the life of Ezio Auditore in his last days. When it comes to an actual date and price for the download, it seems Ubisoft are yet to reveal these vital details. In the meantime check out the preview of the Embers short we have below.

Are you pleased to see the franchise make its way to the iOS devices? What are your thoughts on the change in gameplay?

A few days ago we brought you news that suggested there was to be a cameo appearance in the upcoming fighter from Namco Bandai, Soul Calibur V. the news came from a leaked image of what appeared to be Ezio Auditore from the Assassin’s Creed series. Well now we can confirm that the renaissance hitman will in fact be featuring in the game after all.

The confirmation came from the developers who said the character will be appearing in PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Soul Calibur V, quashing any rumors that the leaked image was a fake Photoshop edit. Some were convinced due to the artwork similarities that the character has with Pyrrha, as it turns out they were in fact wrong.

Other guest appearances will come from Dampierre, who originally appeared in Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny on the PSP. For those that are unfamiliar with him, he is described as a comical character but will only be available to those gamers who purchase the game with a pre-order, unlike Ezio who will be available to all. Metro also reported that the game will feature music from the Ubisoft series as well as having a stage in the game dedicated to Assassin’s Creed.

Along with the confirmation of Ezio’s cameo, came an announcement of a released date for the game. Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers can get hold of the fighter on February 3rd. earlier today we brought you news that there was to be an Assassin’s Creed movie, being developed with Sony Pictures. Feel free to check out the trailer introducing Ezio to Soul Calibur V which we have embedded below. What do you think of this guest appearance? Do you think there will be any others? Let us know who you would like to see or think we will also be seeing in the game?

We have brought you many stories about hit games being reported to be making their way to the big screen recently including Halo and Dead Island, but it seems the most exciting game-come-movie to join the list will be an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. Sony Pictures are reported to be the studio that is closing in on the deal to get the movie underway.

The firm has been undergoing negotiations with the games developers Ubisoft and is reported to be close to finalizing the deal to bring the popular franchise to the cinema industry. The rights were previously obtained after a bidding war with the likes of Universal and the studio is now in the final stages of negotiations involving the distribution and adaptation of the Assassin’s Creed series.

According to Variety, Ubisoft is likely to co-finance as well as co-produce the production with Sony so as ‘to maintain more creative control over the development.’ Sony is also reported to have other movie adaptations from games in development including InFamous and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and is looking out for more potential movies from game sources.

Ubisoft has announced in the past that it wishes to bring Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell to the big screen also. A spokeswoman for Ubisoft told Variety ‘Ubisoft is actively looking for film opportunities for our top brands.’ These adaptations are the company’s way of turning their games into large brands, getting them noticed by more consumers and generating deals to make them more money that they otherwise would not get.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one movie adaptation that Ubisoft is behind that was not as successful as they would have hoped. It only managed to earn just $335 million worldwide despite being developed with the help of Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney. The company will be hoping for much more success with their next movie adaptation. Do you think they will get it with Assassin’s Creed the movie?

One of the most recognizable characters in the world of video games is the Assassin’s Creed star Ezio Auditore. This Italian renaissance assassin has appeared in two out of the three titles from Ubisoft so far and will be making a third (possibly final) appearance in the upcoming title Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Apparently that’s not the only upcoming game he is set to make an appearance as a leaked image has surfaced showing him in Soul Calibur V.

The Namco Bandai fighter game has built itself a bit of a reputation when it comes to guest appearances in their titles. The first to appear was Heihachi from Tekken, who appeared in the PS2 version of Soul Calibur 2. The Xbox version also featured comic book favorite Spawn and the GameCube version featured Legend of Zelda’s Link. A whole host of other names have since starred in the series including characters from God of War and Star Wars. This gives us reason to believe that the photo could indeed be real.

Skeptics are less than convinced however, pointing out the similarities that the Ezio image has to existing character Pyrrha, insisting it is nothing more than a Photoshop edit. According to Gematsu the image came from the live blog, PS3blog at a Namco Bandai event. Of course the image could well be real but simply was exposed to early, hence the sudden removal from the live blog. Until we get official confirmation from the publishers we can only speculate.

A release date was also mentioned on the live blog, indicating January 31st 2012 has some significance. Again nothing official was mentioned from the publishers although we previously brought our readers news that the game was confirmed to be released in 2012. What are your thoughts on the image? Is it real or fake?

What we have seen from the upcoming title from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, so far has been spectacular it has to be said. With the launch of various trailers revealing some beautiful artwork and graphics to now see some of the in game graphics from the latest trailer that has been released, as opposed to the CGI, is a refreshing change.

Until now the only in game graphics trailer that we had brought you, which featured gameplay, was from the multiplayer preview. The trailer which we have for you today that can be viewed below, reveals a lot more of the story and the plot than has been seen before, focusing on Ezio Auditore once more as he explains the purpose of his quest.

Like the other trailers that Ubisoft have released for Revelations, this one is very gruesome and features some the cool executions we have grown to love, as well as being packed full of explosions. The main story involves the three main characters in this year’s game who are Altair, Desmond and Ezio. Be sure to check out the video below where the plot will be explained.

We previously brought you news that the game’s beta had gone live. When we first found out, it was limited access to those who have PlayStation Plus membership then later we brought you news that it was available to everyone, although this time there were only limited spaces available. Were you one of the lucky ones who were able to download the beta? What did you think of it?

What are your thoughts on Assassin’s Creed Revelations so far? Do you think it could be the best episode yet? Will you be getting it come November 15th? We’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Ubisoft today announced that fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise who are looking forward to the release of Revelations will have the opportunity to buy the Collectors Edition of the upcoming title when it hits stores pre-Christmas. But instead of the normal one Collectors Edition, Ubisoft has gone one better and decided that they had so much more to give by releasing not one, but two separate editions to delve your daggers into. Read on to find out what is contained in these special editions.

Ubisoft has revealed that there will be two editions; the simply named “Collectors Edition” and the “Animus Edition” will both be yours to own from November 15 this year, and will contain additional in-game content, booklets and other goodies for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

First up, the simply titled “Collectors Edition” will feature a 50-page artbook, a copy of the game’s soundtrack and a feature length animated movie entitled Assassin’s Creed: Embers, that expands on the tale of the Assassin’s Creed main hero, Ezio Auditore.

You also get some additional in-game content that features two new additional multiplayer characters; the Ottoman Jester and The Crusader will be yours to take control of as well as getting access to the prison of Vlad the Impaler, where you can grab yourself a new close-quarters dagger to wield.

As for the Animus Edition (the more expensive from the two new special edition releases), you get an in-depth franchise encyclopedia, a copy of the animated movie Assassin’s Creed: Embers, and all of the additional content that we shared with you above. In addition, you will also receive capacity upgrades for your hidden gun bullets, bombs and crossbow arrows. You can also acquire the Amour of Brutus, which made an appearance in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

From the sounds of it the guys over at Ubisoft have gone all out to treat fans of the Assassins Creed series. With a bunch of new in-game content, and a new animated movie for good measure, fans of the franchise should definitely not pass this up.

As for which one you should buy, it is simply down to you. Obviously the Animus Edition will feature better stuff, but if the in-depth franchise encyclopedia is not really up your street, the Collectors Edition still fills a very important gap in your Assassins Creed heart.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Collectors Edition will cost £59.99, and the Animus Edition will cost £68.99. Both will be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from November 15 2011. You can pre-order from GAME, on this page here.

Are you an Assassin’s Creed fan? Which of the two editions will you buy?

Ever since Apple released the iPad there have been calls for Assassin’s Creed to come to the iOS tablet. It seems that Ubisoft wants to release it to, but they have said that it will be “in a few years.” The wait will be unbearable for some, but at least you know that it is coming, unlike the 3DS version. We have just learned that this version of the game has been cancelled.

Ubisoft’s CEO has also said that other titles will be coming to the iPad as well, but did not name what they would be. Yves Guillemot understands the importance of the tablet market; so will need to start pushing in this area soon. We have to wonder why Assassin’s Creed will take a few years to come to the iPad and other tablets, such as Android and Windows? Not sure about PlayBook support, as the future of that device is not looking too good at the moment?

CVG reports that Ubisoft is said to be in the development stage now for some new titles for the iPad as well, so we can look forward to a huge presence in the App Store than just the odd game here and there. However, we do not want to forget those games that have made the French developer who they are today, so the adaption of these games to the tablet will be very welcome indeed.

Ubisoft has given with one hand and taken from the other, because in that same conference call, the lead developer said that they have had to cancel their plans to release Assassin’s Creed on the Nintendo 3DS. In fact they cancelled these plans last year, we have to wonder why we are only finding out now?

One of the reasons was due to the fact that there was already a huge list of game support for the 3DS, so it was pointless to continue with their plans. This does seem a little strange, as this game would have been very welcome – maybe it is to do with the slow uptake of the 3D portable games console?

To try to make it up to you the developer did say that Assassin’s Creed would be made available on the upcoming Nintendo Wii U, which should be with us sometime next year. We do not have an exact date, but it will be perfect timing for Assassin’s Creed 3, not Revelations.
