Apple has recently announced the release of their new iOS 4.3 update with such features as HotSpot functionality, a few minor upgrades and tweaks to how certain iPad hardware works and a new version of the Safari web browser which has been touted as “twice as fast” as there previous browser.

Apple Safari 5.0.4 brings with it new stability, compatibility, and security. Developers have improved certain compatibility with webpages that were struggling with transition effects, fixed a numerous amount of problems with HTML5 video, webpages printing incorrect layouts, and certain webpages not displaying correctly when using plugins.

Minor updates that would often cause annoyances were also fixed, with one of the main gripes of a screensaver would show even if a video was playing in the browser.

VoiceOver was also put on the treatment table, and compatibility on web pages with text input areas, lists and selectable items seems now to work correctly. Stability for VoiceOver has also been increased.

Minor updates have also been added, especially many security fixes that now address the handling of JPEG and TIFF files that could cause crashes.

The update is both for the Windows version and the Mac OS X version which can be downloaded using the Software Update if you already have it installed. If not, you can download the Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard version from here and the Windows XP, Vista and 7 version from here. Both are 30MB+

Have you downloaded Safari 5.0.4? Are you noticing any significant performance increases?

Recently Apple released Apple Safari 5, this new version of their popular web browser sounded pretty promising as it is faster than previous versions and there is now support for extensions.

Apple claim Safari 5 is fastest web browser available, faster than Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer, however a recent article posted on Reuters seems to refute these claims.

Their article (seen here) has grouped together some bloggers opinions, and it seems as if Apple’s claims are not at all true. Various benchmarks have proven this, in Mozilla’s Dromaeo JavaScript performance test Google Chrome was 2.27 times faster than Safari 5.

Just because Safari 5 is not as fast as Chrome it doesn’t make it a bad web browser, but stating that it is the world’s fastest web browser is a lie, check out the source link below for further details.

Earlier today we revealed that Apple Safari 5 was now available for download for PC and Mac, we are now hearing details regarding this release, it is said to be 30% fatser than Safari 4, which may well make it faster than Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox (find out more here).

Personally I am more excited to hear that Safari 5 will support extensions, currently I run Mozilla Firefox with 8 developer-created extensions installed, these extension block ads, add extra functionality and modify the appearance, which basically has allowed me to fully customize my web browsing experience.

Apple have also introduced a free program for developers, this allows extensions to be developed using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, if you would like to take advantage of the Safari Developer Program check out this link.

The link above also states that there will be plenty of assistance from Apple by way of sample code, conversion guides and a wide-range of technical resources.

Have you downloaded Safari 5? If so, are you impressed?
