256GB SSD in your Asus Eee PC or Apple MacBook Air

As you know SSD are now being used in a number of our mobile technology products like the Asus Eee 900 and the Apple MacBook Air, but the downside is that they still have limited storage capacity. The Asus at the moment only has a 12 - 20GB SSD, and the Apple MacBook Air comes with a larger 64GB SSD. The latter has a larger capacity, but it is still not enough for what people need in their laptops and UMPC’s. However; this could be about to change towards the end of the year, as PC World reports that Samsung Electronics who are the largest consumer electronics company on the planet are to release a 256GB solid-state disk, which should be on the shelves by the end of the year.

If Samsung do keep hold of their promise to release the larger more reliable hard drive, then future owners of mobile technology like the Eee PC and the MacBook Air will be hoping that both Asus and Apple decide to go with the larger SSD. It is not just laptops and UMPC’s that could benefit from such a device, even MP3 players might get a smaller version of this larger solid-state-disk, and I would put money on it that Apple will be the first to use it on their iPod range.

SSD as we know is the future in storage solution as there is nothing spinning like a conventional hard drive, this will save power which is the holy grail in portable technology, as well as reduce the risk of failure. However; there is one problem with the solid-state-disc, and that is the price. There is one problem with all new technology, the price is always high but as time goes on the price will become lower. If you do not believe me, just look how the price of Cell Phones have reduced in price, who would have thought 10 years ago that you could purchase as a cell phone for les than $10.

Thin leather case for Apple MacBook Air: The CEO Envi

When you think about a case for the Apple MacBook Air, you start to think about the envelope that was shown on the launch day of the Macbook Air and how it showed, just how thin Apple’s Mac Air was. Now this is a new case for the Macbook Air and it’s called The CEO Envi, available from Marware for $89.99. That may seem a lot of money for a case that’s almost as thin as an envelope, but it’s because the CEO Envi is made from leather to help protect your loved gadget.

Today Marware introduced the CEO Envi to the world and this new case has a soft-lined interior, a slim design that is perfect for being put in a briefcase or bag to carry that little easier. We love the magnetic closure system and the fact that this case is not bulky and sticks to the thin form of the Macbook Air. The case is finished in black leather with white stitching as you can see in the photos on this page.

Personally I would prefer to carry the Macbook Air just in this leather CEO Envi case, because it looks so sleek and thin, putting it in another case does make sense for additional protection, but it spoils the look. Visit Marware for more information and let us know how you carry your Macbook Air?

The Apple Macbook Air made a statement as it was with a 0.16-0.76 inch height but how about a 24kt Gold Macbook Air with Sapphires, now there is a statement. With all the different pimped products before it including iPods, iPhones and other gadgets getting gold plated, this gold Macbook Air looks stunning and is sure to cost a nice premium.

According to Computer Choppers, this is the world’s first 24kt Gold Apple Macbook Air and because the Mac Air has no optical drive they have a polished gold Superdrive to go with it. You can see some photos on this page of the Gold Macbook Air; they have sent this one to New York and are working on a second.

The photo above shows the Apple logo ensconced in multi-colored sapphires, no expense has been spared with revamping this laptop, but if you had the money would you really want a 24kt Gold version…let us know what you think.

We will have to leave it to your imagination to think what will happen to the Macbook next.

Apple MacBook Air
We have heard so many stories about the Apple MacBook Air from the very first day that we reported about the new Mac Air in the minutes after it was first launched. Today we have seen the best hands-on yet with this ultra thin laptop, Dan Frakes over at Mac World has spent three weeks with their review unit and this was more specifically during a vacation with his family and for use at home.

Dan Frakes went from seeing the Macbook Air as a laptop with a loss of “features compared to the other offerings in Apple’s laptop line: an optical drive, a number of ports and expansion options, a removable battery, and processing power” and then after his three weeks hands-on his family’s new MacBook Air arrived last week.

During his time with the Macbook Air it went everywhere with him, this included two six-hour plane flights, a week’s vacation in Hawaii, around his home, on the patio, in coffee shops, on tables and desks, in a hotel and much more for a family computer surfing the Web and for work.

At one point he even misplaced the Air under a stack of papers, read Dan Frakes full review after his 3 weeks with the Macbook Air.

Apple MacBook Air Demand: Mac shortages hype or real
When we first learned of the release of the Apple MacBook Air, we all thought that this laptop was too expensive for what you were getting. Many thought that sales would be low for the MacBook Air, however it now seems that Apple are having problem forefilling the demand for this now Mac.

Now according to Apple the MacBook Air is far more popular than they ever thought which is why they are having trouble forefilling orders. If you were to walk into your local Apple store and ask for a MacBook Air, chances are you will have trouble getting hold of one.

This was just the same for gamers at Christmas when they wanted to purchase a Nintendo Wii, which had already been out for some time, and we still had trouble getting hold of one.

The thing is many gamers thought that Nintendo created the hype with not being able to forefill demand, and many now think that Apple is trying the same tactic.
