Today saw an announcement from Apple before their WWDC event in which they revealed their schedule and what you can expect to see at the annual event. Included in that schedule was confirmation that there will be a preview of their latest Mac OS X, Lion at the event as we previously predicted.

Today we have news of a previous look at the software before the final preparations of the product before WWDC called Developer Preview 3. According to the article at Apple Insider the new build was adjudged to have a ‘more polished login screen,’ by Dan Bennet who showcased the OS.

The new build also featured status information without having to login such as wireless signal and the clock. Its Safari Reading List feature is now functional and has an iOS style tray that allows users to open unread articles or all articles in new tab or window for preference.

The final, tweaked build of the Mac OS X Lion will be unveiled at WWDC as we know, but in the meantime you can check out more about the software in the full article at Apple Insider by clicking the link above.

What do you think of the new OS so far?

For those that do not know the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) which occurs every year, held by Apple, has also become one of the most hotly anticipated technology events of the year. Today the company announced their schedule for the event which takes place in California next week.

The event will begin with a keynote address starting Monday at 10:00 a.m. Here Apple will take the wraps off their new offerings, from their cloud service, iCloud to their latest generation software Lion, which is the eighth Mac OS X release. They will also unveil their most advanced mobile operating system for iDevices, iOS 5.

The schedule was revealed in the article at Apple.com also says the event features over 100 technical sessions. These sessions will be presented for Mac developers and mobile developers by Apple engineers so they can learn how to develop the Mac OS X Lion applications and explore different ways of enhancing the functionality of the iOS.

It looks like Apple has its eye on the PC market this year, following the recent announcement of the new iMac in 2011. Although desktop PCs play a smaller role on the market than notebooks, the updated iMac all-in-one PC is expected to push Mac sales even higher this year.

As Neil Hughes over on the appleinsider.com website recently noted, Apple saw a 23.7% sequential growth following the iMac refresh last year. Analyst Maynard Um expects a similar increase in sales this year once the newly updated iMac line hits the market.

Tuesday’s iMac update announcement has come at a crucial time for the all-in-on desktop PC, according to a previous appleinsider.com article. Desktops Macs have unfortunately fallen from over 50 percent of Apple’s Mac shipments in 2006, to only 26% in the 2nd fiscal quarter of 2011.

However, Mac desktop PC sales have also seen a boost when the company issues a refresh on its flagship Mac product, the iMac. As announced on Tuesday, the new quad-core iMacs come with the new Thunderbolt high-speed input / output port and Sandy Bridge processors.

Are you thinking of buying a new all-in-one PC? If so, would you consider the new quad-core iMac?

Last week we heard how Mac OS X 10.7 Lion was available for developers, now Engadget has had some hands-on time with the Snow Leopard’s successor and early signs are good, hopefully this means that Apple are on track for a summer 2011 release date.

You can see Engadget’s fully detailed hands-on with Lion here, in their article they look at new features including Launchpad, Full-screen apps, AirDrop and Mission Control, also it gives us a good look at the newly updated versions of Mail, Address Book, iCal and Quicktime.

The hands-on features plenty of screenshots and talks about a lot of the less-noticeable changes, most of what Engadget speak about has been put together in a video, we have embedded the video at the end of this post, check it out for your first look at Mac OS X Lion.

On the whole Engadget seem very impressed by the early Lion release and suggest that Apple seem to be doing a good job of bringing an iOS-style of computing to the desktop, with more multitouch gestures supported and better multitasking capabilities the foundations are being set, it will be interesting to see iOS 5 and Lion side-by-side to see the similarities and differences.

Do you like the look of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion? (Remember the video has been embedded below)

With the news that was revealed yesterday regarding Google’s decision to move users from their Windows based systems to Mac and Linux, it seems that the latter is the only safe bet for them now as a very high-risk piece of spyware/malware has hit OS X computers in the form of the ‘OpinionSpy’ virus.

Also known as ‘PremierOpinion,’ the spyware is being downloaded and distributed through the use of various free screensavers according to security firm Intego who have released a list of the screensavers that are currently being investigated, and have been found to have the spyware included.

But what does this piece of spyware do? – If installed, the program is capable of scanning files to record user activity, and also sends information about the said activity to remote servers, which in turn opens a backdoor to the infected computer.

The spyware seems to have come from comScore, through their VoiceFive Networks subsidiary and if installed will scan all your personal information on all volumes withing the computer – from iChat, URL user data, browser information and all other private data. It will send that information to remote servers and email address that they currently have set up.

Even though by downloading these screensavers, they do mention “market research” in their Terms of Service, but not all.

But how can it be removed? – Even if the infected screensaver is removed from your system, the spyware will still remain and automatically update itself in the background. Of course, Intego would like you to remove the spyware by using their software, but you must pay for it.

If you want to remove it manually (and for free), you can follow these steps found here via Guardian.

Please also be aware that the MishInc FLV To Mp3 application has also been found to have this spyware embedded in it’s installation.

Was this guide helpful to you? Did you have the spyware and manage to get rid of it? Please let us know in the comments below.
