In our previous article, we listed potential pieces of software that could be used to stop ‘phone-drivers’ from using their phones whilst driving. Amongst the mentioned, was one that would disable the phone upon reaching certain speeds, but this did potentially have flaws. The majority of us who drive in our cars from day-to-day, whether it be to work, to pick up the children, take someone out on a date, or just generally ‘cruising’ listen to music whilst we are on our journey to wherever. That’s unless you are going on a long-distance drive and have to have the GPS speaker on.

Introducing the Slow Down app, and what a clever application it is. Although it has the flaw of being used voluntarily, at least it gives us something we enjoy doing whilst driving, and that is listening to music.

As explained in the video via the official Slow Down website and at the end of this article, this clever application will let you choose a song of your choice and then depending on the speed limits in the area, will slow down or completely turn off your music if you are more than 10 km/h out of the speed range. Although it won’t necessarily stop you from using your cell phone in the car, it is mostly preoccupied on the dash pumping out your favourite tunes.

Potentially, this addresses both the speeding issue and the cell phone usage issue in one swoop. So, it can only be a good thing, right?
