We have been hearing a lot about the practices Foxconn use when creating products for their partners, and this received mixed reactions from both consumer and even those that work at Foxconn. We’ve heard some consumers explaining that this seems like “slave labor” in their opinion, and then some forums have had postings from Foxconn employees explaining they get “paid a lot of money” in terms of income for their part of the world.

It’s fair to say that Apple are on the ball with quality in the supply chain – while not every reader will agree with this statement, seeing Apple reject certain suppliers for not meeting standards is a sure sign that they have their eye-on-the-ball. Apple have climbed all the way to the top spot for worldwide technology companies, and having a share price back in 1990 of $35.50 to $584.90 at the start of this month shows the popularity.

Another sign that Apple are keeping an eye on the business – in a recent article by iPhone Rumors they touch on a few signs being seen right now for manufacturing of Apple products, and it’s their view that making an iPhone 5 and iPad 4 is more about politics than anything else. This has been shown with deals that are being made right now between Foxconn and Sharp, and could eventually cause problems for Samsung and their partnership with Apple, which is already rumored to be a highly stressful one.

The article also points out a few facts, this is always good when stating possibilities, and these include Apple running trial manufacturing runs with MSMC for A6 chips, and also Apple taking the supply of DRAM away from Samsung.

We’ve all heard about the courtroom battles between Samsung and Apple, but do you think the ending of contracts between these two brands can be more damaging?

We looked a few days ago at Verizon’s Unlimited Data plan, which should be still available to customers as long as they stick with their existing phone or upgrade to one at full price (unsubsidized). Obviously certain Verizon customers are not happy with this news, especially thanks to phones being more data dependable just as the upcoming iPhone 5 is likely to be.

Some previously loyal Verizon customers are going to move away if they are made to make a choice like this, and have an opinion that “this is not rewarding loyalty“. Others clearly point blame not at Verizon Wireless but federal regulators for allowing capping and throttling of data in their opinion, and also add blame for this change with unlimited data plans. Would you agree with opinions like this?

Other phone users will buy a phone outright – we’re seeing an increasing amount of users starting to buy cell phones outright, rather than subsidized phones on long contracts, which includes an aim to buy direct at Google for a Nexus. This also applies to the iPhone 5, Apple’s 6th generation model, which should see a release date towards the end of 2012. There are also cheaper devices that are in the sights of buyers wanting to buy a phone and move to a network of their choosing.

The iPhone 5 will not be cheap if you plan on buying it outright, but would you lose your previous unlimited data just to get an iPhone 5 subsidized? Or would you rather find the money to buy the next iPhone outright and keep unlimited data with Verizon?

Newly formed iPhone Rumors has touched on this very issue, and point out that some of their readers have explained that losing the unlimited data plan would stop them buying an iPhone in 2012. Are you planning on buying the new iPhone, and how loyal are you to Verizon?

A lot of people are expecting the next iPhone to come with a quad-core processor as a minimum requirement. One area that is still up for debate though is display screen size. Should Apple stick with their winning 3.5-inch formula or experiment with a new display screen size closer to the 4-inch standard that we see today?

As you can imagine, there is divided opinion over this. Obviously the current crop of Android handsets all surpass the 4-inch range and many Apple fans would love to see an iPhone which offers a much bigger display to suit their multimedia viewing needs.

On the other hand, Apple has stayed true to a 3.5-inch diagonal display screen on every single iPhone released, including the original, so perhaps their priority is not about the size of the display screen, but improved performance and usability instead. That hasn’t stopped the 4-inch iPhone rumors though from coming out on an almost daily basis.

This week we have heard the latest whispers from 9to5Mac that Apple’s next generation iPhone will be a 3.99-inch effort, with a new resolution of 1136×640 pixels. What’s interesting is that the width of the iPhone is set to stay at 1.9632 inches, meaning there’s still no edge to edge display. However, we may be seeing a display which increases the height of the display to 3.484 inches tall. The new resolution is also thought to be very close to a 16:9 screen ratio, which may be excellent news for those of you who enjoy watching media in this format.

A picture showing a mock up of the new iPhone’s display has been provided below, courtesy of Niilo Autio. As you can see it looks noticeably different to the iPhone 4S, but still pretty sexy in our opinion. It’s not the 4.xx-inch display or edge to edge screen that you may have wanted, but it’s still a bigger screen and it looks rather nice.

Would you have any objections if the next iPhone looked like this? Watching full screen 16:9 movies on the iPhone is a great prospect to look forward to, so let’s hope that Apple is planning to reveal more details at WWDC 2012.

The Karma app has hit the headlines recently thanks to Facebook’s acquisition, although how good is this application really and does it bring a better solution to send gifts to friends and family?

Just 8 days into this month the Karma app jumped to version 1.80, and with it brought bug fixes that has made the experience better, which has been pointed out by a few comments on the official iTunes page with statements like “working again“. We had a little play with Karma on our iPhone and found it pretty easy to use, and it was great to not have to know the address of the person you want to send a gift to (never been that good with keeping track of addresses).

We’d have to agree with the new iPhone Rumors blog, when they state the app has a “very niche catalog“, which is thanks to what seems to be a selective partnership by those behind Karma. It will be interesting to see how the gifting app changes now it has been acquired by Facebook, and we hope they expand the gift catalog dramatically to provide a better service.

What do you think about the Karma gift-giving app for iPhone? Do you think the best gift is your time rather than spending it on Facebook, or is this a good solution for your busy lifestyle? We’ve embedded a video below that features the Karma co-founder talking about the app, and why it was created in the first place. The key success for this app comes from everyone sharing everything on Facebook, and with that connection you’re able to reach out and send a gift with Karma via email, SMS, and Facebook.

It amazes us how some technology websites pull so-called facts out of a hate, and this has been seen again today thanks to a source claiming insiders at Pegatron are stating a new iPad 4 and iPhone 5 would launch later this year. The finer details point to both a 7-inch iPad releasing in August and a 10-inch iPad somewhere in the fourth quarter, which is completely unlike Apple.

We’d expect a new iPad to launch around 12 months after the last generation, which means sometime early 2013 and not in 2012 when the iPad 3 has already released. You can read the full details in this Digi Times article, which I’m sure you agree becomes even more wild when they state the “Taiwan-based supply chain maker” announced this news unofficially.

It’s obvious the next iPhone will be coming at some point this year, unless we hit another delay, and the same article states Pegatron landed “orders for a new-generation iPhone“, which is much more believable than two new iPads coming a few months after the 3rd generation tablet.

Are you looking forward to getting the real iPhone 5, also know as the 6th generation iPhone? We would say this source lost all credibility when they mentioned two new iPads in 2012 (making 3 this year in total) at differences sizes. You might also want to look at how some blogs feel they know the real release date for iPhone 5.

Having owned five generations of iPhone it’s obvious to us that the iPhone 5 release date will never be known until Apple chooses a time to reveal it, although this doesn’t stop some blogs and journalists claiming they know when the date will be. The so-called iPhone 5 will in fact be the 6th generation, which some fortune-tellers are suggesting certain months and dates thanks to what they call ‘solid rumors’.

Reading titles that state “the iPhone 5 release date will be” just seems crazy, especially when you wonder how these bloggers think they know anything solid about a launch date. This article starts just like that and then continues with a history lesson, which most of us already know, and obviously shows the iPhone 4S as the biggest change in iPhone launches thanks to the delay last year. This then leaves Apple in a unique situation that might stop them returning to a June launch month ever again – they wont want to upset the millions that bought an iPhone by releasing another within 12 months.

The only way we see Apple returning to a new iPhone in June would be with another delay, which eventually puts an iPhone back to around WWDC (that will not happen this year). You can read about the October 2 or October 16 prediction thanks to Jonny Evans in the above link, although we’d love to hear your thoughts on his crystal ball talent in the comments.

Occasionally we’ll find some evidence towards an iPhone 5 release, which is more than just speculation that most blogs are reporting, and this is shown with Apple predicting a fall in profits for the next quarter – something that will never happen if Apple were to release a new iPhone around WWDC. With an early launch out the way we can then look at revenue reports from TPK Holding and Wintek, as seen in this article, and this report shows the adoption of in-cell touch with iPhone 5 and also a drop in revenue for old suppliers.

Taking these more tangible reports into account it’s pretty obvious the 2012 iPhone will come towards the end of this year, although pay no attention to those that give you a date.

The Logos Quiz app is a game that wants to show you how much you’re picking up while watching TV ads, and while you might joke with friends and family that know loads about adverts it seems you might also know more than you think. After using the Logos Quiz app and providing a few answers on the iPhone it became pretty obvious that we’d soaked up more information than we thought, which shows how well these TV commercials work with our subconscious.

You’ll find over 500 brands within the logo quiz game, and these logos are seen not only on television but also while walking on the street, in subways, and more. The iOS app has been rated on thousands of times and the current version has over 4.5 stars on iTunes, but the game is causing problems for some players and while you can purchase hints, these cost money at 120 hints for $0.99 and 300 hints for $1.99.

The game has made its way to the top of Apple’s iTunes chart and those of you that have played “Logos Quiz” will understand why, and a number of our readers have requested answers to the questions, which surprised us considering there are plenty of solutions on YouTube. We’ve embedded a few videos below this article to give you a visual look at the Logos Quiz app, and also provide you with answers to the Logos Quiz levels from level 1 to 8.

You can also share your score on Facebook and Twitter, although we’d love to know if you’ve used videos to help you with Logos Quiz? How do you rate this app, and do you think it deserves a place at the top of the iTunes chart? It’s worth pointing out that getting the answers could ruin the experience, so proceed with caution that you might have more fun trying yourself.

With Apple having reached a company milestone by releasing their first iPad device with 4G LTE connectivity, there is obvious expectation that they will now go on and equip the next-generation iPhone with a 4G LTE radio as well.

Put it this way, if the next iPhone does not have 4G LTE support, that is going to be a major blow for consumers, especially when rival manufacturers have been offering 4G LTE smartphones for months now.

Recent rumors this week though have spoke of alleged problems that LTE chip supplier Qualcomm are facing, as the company are apparently struggling to meet Apple demand ahead of an expected release this Summer. Demand problems usually mean one thing – release delays, with an article from Reuters suggesting that these problems may cause Apple to release their next iPhone in October or November instead, rather than Summer.

Having said that, a Holiday 2012 release wouldn’t really be a surprise for all concerned. Apple may have released their latest iPad in March, but you’ll probably remember that they chose an October release for the iPhone 4S. A similar release pattern may end up happening for the next iPhone, but we would much rather see the device unveiled at WWDC 2012, to return to a tradition of seeing brand new hardware at the showpiece event.

Would it be such a bad thing if the next iPhone appeared in October, or would you still prefer to see it at WWDC instead? As long as it does have 4G LTE, we have a feeling that not many people will be concerned about the exact timing of release. Don’t forget to read interesting rumors this week about a next-gen iPhone using LiquidMetal materials.

While many consumers are expecting the new iPhone to be equipped with a quad-core processor, one aspect that hasn’t really been discussed is the materials being used to build the device. One interesting rumor this week suggests that Apple may be planning to swap the glass back casing for a Liquidmetal design instead.

It’s a logical assumption that Apple are looking for ways to make their next iPhone as durable than ever, and opting for a liquidmetal approach may be the answer. The information has come from Korean publication ETNews, who claim that using a liquid metal alloy in the next iPhone will result in a much thinner and lighter device overall, one which is less susceptible to taking damage.

While it’s obviously not a confirmation at this point, it is worth mentioning that in 2010, Apple paid $20 to LiquidMetal Technologies to obtain the exclusive rights to use an ‘amorphous’ metal, as noted by 9to5Mac, so perhaps there is some weight behind this rumor in actual fact.

What about the display screen size though? There is still numerous rumors regarding an ‘edge-to-edge’ screen for the next iPhone, and of course never-ending speculation regarding a display screen bigger than 4-inches. While a bigger display screen would be welcome, we would much rather see Apple give a priority to battery capacity instead. Battery life remains a big problem for many iPhone 4S users, so it goes without saying that this is an area of improvement badly needed for the next iPhone.

What are your immediate thoughts on Apple using LiquidMetal materials for the next iPhone? It obviously sounds very cool, but are you worried that using such materials may force Apple to bump up the cost to compensate? Consumers will definitely not want to pay more than the $200 price currently attached to the 4S on contract in the US. Having said that, other manufacturers have no problems asking for $299 for new smartphones on contract, so it will be interesting to see if using LiquidMetal does really increase the price or not.

Now that Apple has released their latest tablet attention has turned towards the iPhone 5 release, and what is sure to be a major update rather than a minor one seen with 4S. The date for launch this year is likely to tell us a lot about Apple’s plans in the future, especially considering we once knew a new iPhone would come at WWDC each year around June, and now it could be towards the end of 2012 to keep the life cycle between generations at around one year.

If you’re an iPhone 4S owner – your idea of the perfect 6th generation release date would be different to those who skipped the 4S, which means there are those that want a launch at WWDC 2012, and there are others that state “no sooner than October this year“. Personally I’ve upgraded the iPhone every year for 5 generations, and the last two models have had faults from release – battery and signal – but we still plan to buy the so-called iPhone 5 as long as it’s a major upgrade.

What does the iPhone 5 need to offer to be classed as a major upgrade? New iPhone display rumors point towards an OLED, which matches up with Apple’s focus on making the screen a top priority on iPhones and iPads. It’s well known that an OLED display can help battery life and give a much brighter screen, and requires less space considering how thin they are, but concerns are raised when looking to see if Samsung could handle the demand Apple would want for their millions of iPad and iPhone owners. You can read more about Samsung’s plans for its new display business here, and if you want to learn the differences between LCD and OLED you can do so on Samsung’s blog here.

We’re likely to see the iPhone 5 display changed in other ways as well, which includes making it bigger in a way that only increases the form factor slightly. Not all iPhone owners want a bigger phone and some of these people point to no Android phone being able to sell anywhere near as many iPhones, which kills the idea of wanting to compete with bigger screened Android phones. The balance of a bigger iPhone display and a device not much bigger than the 4S model can be attained, and this would be done with using edge-to-edge display technology mixed with a few other improvements,

Apple is known for listening to its users and also for not designing iOS devices around competitors, especially because Apple like to take technology and package it in their own unique way, which is one of the reasons the brand is so successful. With this in mind – as an iPhone owner – I also hope the bigger display comes with a slightly bigger form factor, although we’d love to know if you’re happy for the current iPhone design to change?

We can also expect to see LTE on the new iPhone; especially considering the new iPad 3 has this feature. More megapixels and raw processing power are also expected with a better GPU for gaming, and that will also help the bigger display provide a better mobile gaming experience.

When do you want the next iPhone to release and do you have “dealbreaker” features that need to be included? You might also want to read about iPhone display priority over a quad-core chip, and watch out for those dodgy iPhone 5 tester videos on YouTube.
