Some of you may remember the article that we brought you back in July last year, which suggested that the popular iWork applications were possibly coming to the iPhone. At the time we asked our readers whether or not they believed the iPad apps were coming to other iOS devices.

Well we can now tell you that the rumors were true, as according to a recent article by Donald Melanson over at engadget.com, Apple’s iWork apps – which have been available for the Apple iPad for quite some time now – have finally come to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The iWork applications – which include Numbers, Keynote and Pages – will set you back $9.99 each, which is exactly the same amount as the iPad-only version. The apps were originally created for the Mac, but were completely redesigned to suit iOS and Apple’s multi-touch interface.

Pages, Keynote and Numbers enable users to create and share beautifully formatted documents, powerful spreadsheets and stunning presentations while on the go. The Keynote app makes it simple to create presentations, complete with transitions and animated charts.

Numbers on the other hand uses multi-touch gestures and an intelligent keyboard, to help users create great-looking spreadsheets with more than 250 easy-to-use functions. Finally, the Pages app has been described as the most beautiful word processor ever designed for a mobile device.

You can read more about the iWork apps via the engadget.com website. Were you hoping that the iWork applications would come to the iPhone and iPod Touch?

If you have been keeping up with the smartphones that are being released this year, you will have heard of the Samsung Galaxy S II. We previously brought you news of a review of the device, in which it came highly recommended was given five stars, before it released.

Since its release we have also provided news of an update for the device, the KE7. The phone had been hyped up as being as good as or even better than the iPhone 4, which has been dominating the smartphone market.

Today we have news courtesy of IntoMobile where there is an article that features the latest UK phone sales chart in which the Samsung Galaxy S II has knocked the iPhone 4 off of its top spot. Though it may look like a victory for Samsung, all that it proves is that they have sold more recently.

The iPhone 4 has been available since last summer yet it has only just been knocked off its perch. Also it still sits in second place despite being out sold. The chart also reveals that three HTC models sit in the top five.

Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S II will keep the top spot for long?

If you will be installing iOS 4.3 on your AT&T iPhone 4 next week you are probably wondering what changes to expect, well one exciting new feature allows your iPhone 4 to act as a personal WiFi Hotspot.

AT&T customers will be glad to hear that this functionality is being added as Verizon iPhone 4 owners have had access to this feature since it was released in February, to utilize this feature customers will have to subscribe to the DataPro 4GB/$45 tethering data plan.

According to AppleInsider the final iOS 4.3 build has been released to developers, therefore there is no reason why it won’t go public on March 11th, Verizon Wireless customers will have to wait as the Verizon iPhone 4 differs from the standard iPhone 4.

AT&T’s hotspot plan allows for the double amount of data that Verizon’s hotspot plan does, however AT&T’s 4GB plan costs $45 per month, whereas Verizon’s plan gives you 2GB of data for $20 per month.

The small print makes things a bit more equal as AT&T charge just $10 per 1GB when you go over your data allowance, whereas Verizon charge you $20 per 1GB of overage.

Will you be using the AT&T iPhone 4′s hotspot functionality?

When buying a high-end smartphone these days a lot of people want to experience the best web browsing capabilities on offer, a recent video posted on Cnet shows how Internet Explorer 9 running on Windows Phone 7 seriously outperforms Safari running on iPhone 4.

We have embedded the video at the end of this post, it shows IE9 running on an unnamed WP7 smartphone running the FishIE Tank speed test, the performance is then compared to the iPhone 4 running Safari enduring the same test, the iPhone 4′s poor performance gets a laugh from the audience.

The video then goes on to show many different aspects of IE9 for WP7, from what the video shows it looks pretty impressive, however lets not forget that it won’t go public until late 2011, between now and then we will probably see a new and improved version of Safari rolled out, and potentially an iPhone 5 release, which will undoubtedly perform better on the FishIE Tank speed test.

If you have never ran the FishIE tank speed test you can run it here, basically the more frames-per-second your browser achieves with the more fish on the screen the better, the video embedded at the end of this post shows just how important IE9′s hardware acceleration capabilities are.

Obviously just because IE9 outperforms Safari in this benchmark test it doesn’t mean that it is a superior browser, however it is nice to know that Microsoft are working hard on their mobile web browser, let’s face it Internet Explorer hasn’t exactly been pushing the boundaries lately.

Are you entirely happy with Apple Safari’s web browsing experience on your iPhone 4?

We have some important news for those of you who have just purchased a handset on Verizon recently, as the US carrier is offering customers $200 to upgrade to their iPhone 4 plan, as part of their special offer.

The Verizon iPhone 4 isn’t due to arrive on Big Red until February 10th, but that hasn’t stopped the carrier from trying to tempt users to switch to their new prized asset.

If you have bought a handset between November 26th 2010 and January 10th 2011, there is a good chance that you’ll be eligible for this offer, in which Verizon will offer you to the chance to trade in your handset for an iPhone with a $200 Visa debit card to spend.

The information over at BGR on this particular deal is a bit confusing, so you are best to read the information yourself over at Verizon’s website here. If you have purchased a smartphone between the above dates, let us know what you are planning to do.

We’re guessing most of you have bought Android phones on Verizon. Let us know if you are willing to trade one in for the mighty iPhone – this should be interesting to see how many of you are game for this.

On January 11, 2011 Verizon announced that they were to offer the iPhone 4 to its customers, for the most part the iPhone looked the same as the current AT&T version. However, there was a subtle difference with the external antenna, as the black bands were no longer on the bottom but at the top instead. This meant that the volume and mute buttons had to be lowered; this means that the current bumper from Apple will no longer fit.

However, Ross Miller from Engadget was informed that there is now a universal iPhone 4 bumper, which means that it will be able to fit both carrier versions. This is an official Apple product, and it’s only when you do a side-by-side comparison that you can see how different they are – not much.

The reader who found this in an Apple store tried it on his current AT&T fourth-generation iPhone, and it was a perfect fit. However, I do worry how long it will be a perfect fit for? I have had mine since they gave them out for free, and already the thing has started to get a bit baggy; this is because I have to take the bumper off if I wish to put my iPhone 4 in my Bose dock.

Other cases for the Big Red version of the iPhone have already started to appear, SlashGear has a hands-on of what they believe is the first case available. This just shows how fast these manufactures can work when they know that are in a race against time, as the Verizon iPhone is released on February 12th.

Will you choose a case or a bumper?

We are only a few weeks into 2011, and already we have started to see some strange rumors. One such rumor is that Best Buy could finally be getting the White iPhone 4 and it could be available from February 27th – well that’s what Engadget reports anyway. However, this is not the only evidence, as the handset has also been seen in the Vodafone Germany inventory system.

Mac Rumors is not too certain if Best Buy and Vodafone know something that the rest of us do not, or if they are just anticipating what Apple told us all last year about the White iPhone 4 coming in the spring 2011? Personally I cannot see the white version of the fourth-generation Apple smartphone being released – but the cell phone market is a strange one.

The idea that people would still want one of these so close to the iPhone 5 being released does seem stupid – people will just wait until June. AppleInsider seems to think that there is no truth in the rumor, as the expected release date is a Sunday, and they have never known Apple to release a product on that day before.

One comment on Engadget summed it up well, as they suggested that any fan that wanted the White iPhone 4 would have already purchased the parts to convert it themselves; we would like to know if you did this?

So the Verizon iPhone 4 is finally here, and although we were a little confused that Big Red did not wait until the iPhone 5 version, we still have to be thankful that we have it at all. Those who will want to purchase the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 will want to know what the key differences are between that and the AT&T version.

One of the biggest differences is with the design of the antenna, which as we know is still the cause of dropped calls. Current iPhone 4 users on AT&T have to use a case or bumper in order to make a call. However, the Verizon version has the black bands at the top, so no fear that your hand will touch them while making calls.

Another difference and one that I like the idea of is Wi-Fi hotspot support via the HotSpot app. This will allow you to connect up to five other devices to share your 3G connection. This is something that AT&T has yet to offer their iPhone customers. InfoWorld is uncertain if this will incur an extra cost.

There are differences with the plans themselves as well, but we have seen one that goes in favor of AT&T. Those with an AT&T iPhone 4 will be able to take advantage of an early upgrade, whereas Verizon customers will not; this could persuade them to wait until the iPhone 5 is released.

According to Chris Ziegler from Engadget the AT&T iPhone also offers simultaneous voice and data on 3G, but Verizon does not. This however is not a negative thing, and will help to improve voice calling for Verizon users.

iSource points out that AT&T offer global roaming, something that we know Verizon will not. If you are still undecided as to which network you want to purchase the iPhone 4 on, then maybe this network coverage map will help you decide? However, the biggest differences we cannot see. What we mean is the technology used to connect to 3G, which you can read in detail on the Mashable website.

These are just some of the key differences, now it is time for you to stop wondering when a Verizon iPhone is released and ask if you are ready for the change from AT&T to its rival?

Yesterday Jamie Pert mentioned that Sony Ericsson would announce their new Xperia Arc smartphone, and he was right. We already knew some of the specs, but did not know much about the new Reality Display. Well Engadget thought that they would give us some insight so thought that they would see how it compares to the Retina Display (which is rumored to be used on the PlayStation Phone as well) on the Apple iPhone 4 and the screen on the Motorola Droid X.

All three displays are very close in quality, but the Reality Display will certainly come into its own when watching videos etc, as Sony Ericsson has incorporated Bravia TV technology. It is said that colors and details will be greatly enhanced, but we will just have to take their word for it at the moment.

There are currently no videos offering a comparison between the three handsets, so you will just have to make do with three images instead. It does look as though the Retina Display on the iPhone 4 has the edge over Reality Display on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, as you can see pixels when you zoom in close on texts.

We have done a bit of searching on YouTube, and are glad to say that we have found a video of this new handset in action. The video, which we have embedded for you below focuses on the new Reality Display. We were very surprised at how much the Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology helps to improve the video image quality, but this is something that we have come to expect from Sony.

It’s no secret that the Samsung Galaxy S is a popular handset, but maybe it’s been more popular than they thought. It’s been a good year for Samsung with the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab surpassing expectations.

The Galaxy S has just sold more than 2 million units in Korea, it’s become their biggest selling smartphone after being released only 6 months ago. It has appealed to the Koreans and outsold the iPhone, which is not an easy task.

When you compare the global sales of the Apple iPhone 4 to the sales of the Samsung Galaxy S, you may be a little surprised. The iPhone 4 and Galaxy S made their way onto the global market at about the same time; the iPhone 4 sales have reached the heights of 14 million up to October, whilst the Galaxy S is at a respectable 9.3 million.

Zach Epstein of BGR.com also mentions that the Samsung Galaxy S will become the first Android handset to reach 10 million marker, this is expected to happen by the end of the year.

What do you think of these figures? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
