We have some exciting news to bring you now, as it has been reported that Apple are already hard at work on the next generation iPad device. Reports are suggesting that the screen could be upgraded to an OLED display.

According to this report from Digitimes, Apple will base their design for the 2G iPad using the same concept used for the iPhone 4G prototype device.

OLED is now the preferred choice for developers rather than LCD, but the price to manufacture remains a big stumbling block. Digitimes analyst Mingchi Kuo reveals that the current cost for the 9.7-inch display on the iPad is about US$60-70. But if Apple want to equip the 2G iPad with OLED displays, each one would cost around $500 – which is obviously an issue for consumers.

Will we see an OLED-based 2G iPad in 2011? Let us know your thoughts on this. Are you a fan of OLED displays or not?
