Yesterday Apple’s new iCloud service was officially announced to the world, this coincided with the debut of iOS 5. It is thought that the new iCloud service will increase sales of iOS devices event further, as users become even more dependent on Apple’s ecosystem. So what is iPhone iOS 5 stickiness? Meet Apple’s new iCloud.

Neil Hughes of AppleInsider is reporting that some of the leading analysts have commented on Mac OS X10.7 Lion, iOS 5, and iCloud. Gene Munster from Piper Jaffray thinks the chances of consumers buying multiple iDevices has increased, thanks to the actions of Apple. He thinks the Apple have made it even easier to escape the clutches of the PC.

The decision by Apple to make the iCloud service free will only account for about 0.3 of the company’s revenue in 2011, and this will easily be offset by larger sales figures of devices. But analyst Mark Moskowitz of J.P. Morgan wasn’t as impressed as others and said that there was “no wow factor at WWDC”. He does think though that the company can keep in front of its rivals.

One thing the analysts do agree on though is that the big feature of iOS 5 was indeed the iCloud service, and the fact it will basically allow users to use their digital content in a much easier way. Do you like look of the iCloud service?

Apple iCloud was finally unveiled today at WWDC 2011, now we can confirm some interesting details regarding the new iOS feature and there’s a lot to get through.

Let’s start with MobileMe and iCloud pricing, iCloud storage will cost you nothing and will pretty much replace MobileMe, if you use MobileMe you will be able to access everything until June 30, 2012 but after then MobileMe will be no more, comments on Engadget suggest that people who have already renewed their subscriptions will get refunds.

You can see full details regarding iCloud on Apple’s official website, you get 5GB of storage and what’s great about this online storage solution is that it does everything wirelessly in the background, this means that syncing your personal data with the cloud is effortless and should be very reliable.

iCloud can be configured to suit your needs and an API will allow developers to reap the benefits associated with cloud storage for their apps, you can choose iOS to carry out automatically daily backups to iCloud over WiFi, this can backup purchased music, books, apps, app data, device settings and captured photos and videos.

What impressed us the most is something Apple call Documents in the Cloud, when using new versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote data is automatically pushed to the cloud, this means that it is instantly accessible no-matter which Apple device you are using.

Finally we can squash a rumor which was doing the rounds, we heard that Apple may make iCloud ad supported, this is not the case, however it looks like if 5GB of storage is not enough for you, you will have to pay for more. Also if you want all of your iTunes library to automatically populate to the Cloud so that it is available on your Apple devices you have to pay $25 a year, you can find out more about iTunes Match here.

Will 5GB of data be enough for you?

Leading up to today’s WWDC event we have heard a lot of news about Apple’s plans for a music streaming service. Now we have news that Apple receives iCloud complaint before WWDC 2011 even starts.

According to an article on The Local, a German music streaming site has lodged an anti-trust claim against Apple. The company Simfy who are based in Cologne which offer a service that is similar to Spotify, are complaining that Apple are preventing Simfy’s iPad app from hitting the App Store to protect its own iCloud service.

CEO of Simfy Gerrit Schumann said “We have always considered Apple an important partner, but it is unacceptable for Apple to be able to control the market in this way.” He went on to say that its customers are unhappy there is no app for the iPad, and even though the company are fans of Apple’s products they can’t understand why their app seems to have been blocked.

The company claims to have been waiting for 15 weeks since it first sent the app to Apple for approval, and the process usually takes no longer than three weeks. An iPhone version of the app was approved in around seven days previously. At the time of writing an Apple spokesperson could not be reached in Germany.

Do you think Apple would intentionally hold back an application to suit its own needs?

We told you last month that Apple where signing deals with major record labels in readiness for its planned iCloud music service. Today we have news of more Apple iCloud rumors ahead of WWDC next week.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that after finalizing contacts with the record labels, Apple are set to seal agreements with music publishers according to sources. Once the service is up and running users who purchase music from iTunes will be offered the service for free for a limited period. Apple then plans to charge around $25 a year for the service, and might also be selling advertising for the service.

It is thought the deals that Apple has agreed will see the company sharing out 70% of any revenue made from the iCloud service with the labels. A further 12% is thought to be going to publishers with Apple keeping 18%, according to sources.

We told you previously that Apple was thought to have signed deals with EMI Group, Sony Corp, Universal Music Group, and now Warner Music Group has been added to the list. To start with the service will focus on users storing their music on Apple’s servers and allow streaming to their devices. But it could eventually be expanded to other content sold through iTunes.

Apple’s Tunes service currently accounts for between 75% and 85% of the market, but is now seeing more competition from the likes of Amazon and Spotify. Would you be willing to pay $25 a year for the iCloud service?
