Apple iPhone is multi-touch but not multi-task, one app at a time please!

Sorry people we have some disappointing news for you so sit down and read on, apparently and according to official iPhone Human Interface Guidelines which was published by Apple the Apple iPhone can only run one iPhone application at a time.
Another way of putting it is that third party apps will not be able to run in the background, does this mean difficulties for developers?
So ok then only one iPhone application can run at a time and third party apps will never run in the background, this is bad news and someone should sort this one out because it means when iPhone users wish to switch to another application like check emails or answer the phone the application they was once on will quit, which basically means a pain in the backside.
