After a year of dominance in the tablet market by Apple, 2012 will mark the start of a new era where other manufacturers will be looking to get in on the action. Velocity Micro are a company that won’t be as well-known as Apple yet but that hasn’t stopped them producing two new Android 4.0 tablets which they are set to debut at the Consumer Electronics Show this year.

The tablets that have been announced are the Cruz T510 and the T507. The clue to what to expect from each tablet is in their names with the T510 featuring a display that falls just short of 10” at 9.7” and the T507 features a 7” display. Both will run Google’s latest Android OS, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will also be packing a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor chipset.

Each will also feature a front-facing camera, 8GB of storage, HDMI out slot, ARM graphics and 512MB RAM. As you can tell from the image, their designs are inspired by the innovative iPad, as are most other tablets. As BGR explains Velocity Micro will be hoping to get a leg up on the competition by offering up a more budget-friendly tablet with their 7” T507. Access to the Android Market is unusually not permitted with these devices; however they do use Amazon’s Appstore alternatively.

Whether each device is as great in action as they are on paper remains to be seen. Next week’s CES is sure to be the perfect platform to launch these devices and will also be where we get the first details of how each tablet performs. What do you think of both of these Android tablets? Will they be any competition for the almighty Apple iPad?

There several Android tablets now available on the market, each trying to compete with the dominance that the iPad has over it. For those that prefer Android devices to the Apple iOS devices, Sony has released a tablet in the UK just in time for Christmas which will be rivaling the iPad that might interest you, the Sony Tablet P.

Sony already has already enjoyed some success in the tablet market with the Sony Tablet S. it is a 9.1” tablet that offers similar features to the iPad and other Android tablets out there but has the unique ability to play PlayStation games on it as it is PlayStation certified, appealing to the portable gamers out there. The Sony Tablet P also has this ability which will work in its favor when it comes to sales.

The Sony Tablet P consists of two 5.5” screens that are hinged together, which allows it to be folded so it becomes more portable. Each screen has a resolution of 1240 x 480 and can be used as one big 11” screen. Alternatively the tablet also has the ability to run two apps at the same time with one on each screen. Its other features include a 5 megapixel camera on the rear and a front-facing VGA resolution camera, 4GB of storage, a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor and it will run Android 3.2.

As far as price is concerned, the Sony Tablet P isn’t the cheapest tablet available on the market. According to Liliputing, it is available at electronics retailer Dixons and costs £499.99. It is also available in France and those in the US will be hoping that the price becomes more reasonable as it becomes more widely available as they won’t want to be paying around $782 for a tablet. What do you think of Sony’s Tablet P?
