Recent Engadget reviewed the new SPB Shell 3D app for Android, in our article we will summarize what they had to say about this impressive app, however for their full hands-on review check out this link.

This app costs $14.95 therefore a lot of people are instantly put off, however after reading this article you may decide that it will be well-worth purchasing, especially as it will give your Android smartphone a touch of uniqueness.

We have embedded a video at the end of this post which introduces you to the app, as you can see it gives your UI a 3D look. Once installed simply press your home button and you will see a new 3D carousel effect, this is fully customizable and allows you to view 3D widgets etc. Engadget loved the 3D globe effect used on the world time widget, however also suggested that there were slight issues when using the Flickr pic of the day app.

SPB say that the app should run fine on most modern Android smartphones, they do suggest that the Motorola Droid and Motorola Milestone’s 3D controllers are too slow and also confirm that Android tablets are not supported. In Engadget’s tests they have ran the app on the Dell Venue, Nexus S and Xperia Play, apparently it ran smoothly on all 3 smartphones and didn’t noticeably drain battery life.

If you head over to the Android Marketplace you can find out more about this app and perhaps buy it, we think that $14.95 is a little steep, but it will definitely give you some bragging rights! Remember the hands on video has been embedded below.

Have you bought this app? Are you happy with it? Let us know in the comments section below.

Google has told app developers that Android applications will now be able to support in-app payments, and the first batch of apps with this feature has also been announced.

Marc Chacksfield from TechRadar has written an article reporting that Google has been looking to have this feature for its applications for some time. Since 2009 Apple’s App Store has contained applications with in-app payments, which has proven very profitable for Apple and developers.

Eric Chu from Google has said in a blog post that they are pleased to be offering the capability with its Android Market Place. He added “As an Android developer, you will now be able to publish apps that use In-app Billing and your users can make purchases from within your apps.”

The first applications with the feature include Comics, Tap Tap Revenge, Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe, Gun Bros, WSOP3, and Deer Hunter Challenge HD. There are also plans to have the feature on its web apps sometime in the future.

Google first revealed plans for in-app payments back in January, and developers began testing apps with the feature last week. This is just another way Google has tried to broaden the Android Market Place, which having this facility may encourage more developers to bring out applications for the Android platform.

An “annoying and ongoing issue,” is what one Android developer used to describe the frequent disappearance of Android applications on the Android Market, after Google said that they had released a patch which solved the problem.

The issue became apparent when on June 3, 2010, an Android developer called Alex Sagrebin posted on the Android Market Help Forum, saying that he had uploaded and updated his People/Contacts widget, but users who were using the Motorola Milestone and the HTC Legend could not see it on the Android Market.

This quickly sparked off numerous developers to say the same thing – that their applications had gone missing on smartphones based on version 2.0 and 2.1 of the Android OS. This included social-networking check-in application Foursquare and approx 10 others.

It took until Tuesday, June 9 for Google to reply to the numerous comments about the issue, and said that they were finally working on the problem. Later, they released a blog post in which they said that the problem had been resolved with a patch. The reason for the applications disappearance? Google did not mention.

This issue seems to have angered plenty of Android developers, who have lost revenue due to the numerous disappearing apps. Question is, have Google really fixed it? Will it happen again? Did it happen to you?
