In the meantime users of the Android platform have been left waiting. Today we have good news for these users as the Sky Go for Android app gets a possible release date for a select number of handsets on the platform.

Consumers looking to watch Sky content while on the go via their Android devices don’t seemingly have much longer to wait for the release of the application. Sources have told TechRadar the application will finally be released next week on February 22nd, after it was in testing for a number of months.

There is even a chance the application could be released before then according to the sources. Previously last month Sky revealed the application was on route and would be released in time for the new Formula One season, which begins next month on the 16th with the Australian Grand Prix.

Strangely the Sky Go for Android app will only be released for some Samsung and HTC smartphones. These include the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Incredible, and HTC Sensation.

It is not currently known why these are the only devices to get the application at first, other than the fact they are the most popular. Sky has been busy expanding the offerings on the Sky Go app by adding extra channels to the service, which will now include the likes of Sky Movies and Sky One.

Hopefully it won’t take long before other devices such as Android tablets get the app for users to enjoy. Have you been waiting for the Sky Go for Android app?

One of these is the free Instagram app that currently has millions of iPhone fans using it. Users can easily create and share photos using a number of effects to the images. Now demand for the Instagram app for Android causes frenzy among some users.

Back in December it was reported by Mashable that Instagram was developing the app for the Android platform, with the company suggesting that its user base could double once the application is released. There was no release date given at the time except that it would be available by the end of 2012. This followed the iOS version receiving a major update that provided live filters, high-res photos, instant tilt-shift, and a slicker experience.

CEO of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, said at the time the company was looking to expanding the network, and there were two people working on the Android version. Last month though rumors emerged that the Windows Phone platform would receive the Instagram application before it launched on Android.

An article over at Digital Trends is reporting that sources are claiming that a team from the Windows Phone platform is working with Instagram. Systrom would only comment on the already announced Android app. The WP7 platform has struggled to compete with Android and iOS with quality content, but if the Instagram app does hit the platform before Android it will be disappointing for its users.

A couple of days ago it was reported by Intomobile that while developers on both the Android and WP7 platforms had created third party alternatives, Instagram is blocking access to an uploading API that means the apps can’t provide a major part of the Instagram experience.

A developer asked Instagram to change this policy while looking to create a third party app for the Windows Phone, but unfortunately had no joy. The developer’s app along with many others can’t upload images or allow users to register, as the Instagram registration is in-app only. This will mean that third party apps can only provide the standard feed of images along with popular ones around the world, so the developer abandoned the app.

Instagram doesn’t make it clear why third party apps are denied access to vital APIs, but is likely to be because of the plans to launch on both the Android and Windows Phone platforms. Meanwhile while users wait for Instagram to launch on Android some members of the Android Forums have offered some alternatives already available.

These include the likes of Streamzoo, Lightbox, and in some users eyes PicPlz is the closest thing to Instagram currently. Do you know of anything better? Are you looking forward to Instagram launching on Android?

Many mobile users were impressed with this but unfortunately it is only officially available on the iPhone 4S at present. We can now tell you that a fake Siri app has been asked to leave the Android Market.

When Siri was first launched many Android fans commented that it was just something similar to what some Android Apps have been offering for ages. Since then we have seen an explosion of other apps being released for the platform. But recently an application actually called Siri for Android appeared on the Android Market.

IT ProPortal are reporting the app claimed to be an official app for the Android platform, and after being present for a few hours Google quickly took it down. While it was still live the app was downloaded by almost 1,000 users.

The application was developed by Official Software and it seems the developers account has also now been pulled. Other applications from the company have now also disappeared from the store. Google are reported to have moved quickly to remove the app and would have been keen not to get hit with anymore lawsuits from Apple.

This has been one of the biggest criticisms of the Android platform and how easy it is to get rogue applications on to the Android Market. There have been many reports of criminals putting up apps that create malware on devices that they get downloaded to.

Last month we told you about rumors that Google were working on their own Siri like feature for the Android platform, codenamed Majel. While this is being worked on expect to see even more Siri type apps appearing on the platform.
