With the rejuvenation in the Tablet PC market we are seeing lots of different devices entering into it, we have the Apple iPad, which is the most successful at this time and the Samsung Galaxy Tab that was much more popular than Samsung would have thought from day 1.

Now we’re going to tell you about a new tablet that is making its way into what is becoming a crowded market. The device is made by Creative and is being portrayed as an entertainment tablet with heavy emphasis around audio compatibility and capabilities. We now move onto the specs.

The Creative Tablet PC has a 7” resistive touch screen with a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, it comes with either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage dependant on what model you buy. It has Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, an HD output slot that goes up to 720p and the memory is expandable by microSD up to 32GB. It supports a number of file formats for both Audio and Video including most of the main ones like bmp, png, jpg, mpeg4, avi, mkv, mp3 and more. All this and the device is reasonably priced at $269.99.

Owners of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 Mini, and X10 Mini Pro, will be sad to hear that they will not be getting the Android 2.1 update yet.

Patrick Goss of Techradar is reporting that Sony have delayed the update which was first expected in September. Sony Ericsson’s Rikard Skogberg said that “The revised plan is to start the roll-out from end of October and onwards,” and added “We are of course not happy about the change of launch timing but we have had to spend some additional time on the software to really make sure we roll-out with the right quality and user experience.”

He went on to say “When it comes to what to expect from the updated software all three X10 models will be updated to Android 2.1 and the Xperia X10 will also get HD video recording with continuous autofocus among many other things.”

The news will surely disappoint owners of the devices who will be seeing people with other handsets getting Android 2.2 updates, while they are still waiting for Eclair.

When the Android 2.1 update was launched for some handsets we heard some users complaining that the image quality wasn’t quite as good as before, Google have now confirmed that this is the case, however it is not all bad news.

Google recently stated that the change is due to a different gallery app in Android 2.1, apparently “Google developed Gallery in Android 2.0.1, which uses 24-bit color rendered using 2D technology. On the other hand, Cooliris created Gallery in Android 2.1, which uses 16-bit textures rendered using 3D technology. We don’t have anything specific to share at this time regarding the Gallery app in future versions.”

Many believe that the 2D image quality will be restored when Google release Android 2.2, however it may be the case that your Android 2.1 complaint smartphone will not accept the Android 2.2 update, if this is the case it could leave you with your blurrier images (you can see the difference here).

Have you been frustrated with the Android 2.1 image quality?

Update

The Gallery app in Android 2.0.1 is different from the Gallery app in Android 2.1. Google developed Gallery in Android 2.0.1, and it uses 24-bit color rendered using 2D technology. Cooliris created Gallery in Android 2.1, which was originally designed for Nexus One. This version displays images using 3D technology but in 16-bit color format, due to memory constraints using OpenGL textures. Cooliris will be working on a version that supports 24-bit color and scaling for a future version of Android.

There is no denying that Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris owners have been watching Nexus One users with envy as they have been enjoying Android 2.1 for some time now. Thankfully the wait is over and the OS update is now ready for download.

Phones Review reports that Softsailor has issued a warning for those who wish to install the update as it could brick their handset – this means that it is not an official update but a leaked version. They also warn that if you install the upgrade then there is no going back

When you watch the video that was released with the Android 2.1 OS update it looked to be genie. If you want your Motorola Droid or HTC Droid Eris to run perfectly – then best hold off until Google launch the official version of its latest mobile OS. We have to wonder how long it will be before the official version of the OS is released.
