The March launch that saw the company give away a special edition of Angry Birds for free, left many Android users around the world frustrated as it was not worldwide. Now we have news for Android users that the Amazon Appstore is up and running outside of the US.

The Android Market rival has quietly gone live in certain regions away from US shores, and SlashGear are reporting that regions such as the UK and The Netherlands can now access and download from the store. There has surprisingly been no big announcement from the online retailer about the sudden availability of the store, with its actual site still stating its US only.

There have also been reports that users in Australia and India have got access to the store, but it may be a bit early for Amazon as some of them are reporting problems. So maybe Amazon will officially announce the availability of the service anytime soon.

Currently it is not known if those users outside of the US will be provided with the ‘Free App A Day service, which has so far helped Amazon get a good slice of the Android app market so far in the US. This rollout of the service could mean the launch of the Amazon Tablet is getting closer. It is not currently known though how much support the tablet will have for third-party apps.

Amazon App Store For Android: Revolution Starts Now http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/23/amazon-app-store-for-android-revolution-starts-now/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/23/amazon-app-store-for-android-revolution-starts-now/#comments Tue, 22 Mar 2011 23:30:09 +0000 Jamie Pert http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=126214 Earlier today the Amazon App Store For Android opened its virtual doors (as we predicted), now we are wondering whether this will be the start of a revolution and perhaps replace the Android Market as the number one place to buy your apps for your Android device.

Having Angry Birds Rio as an exclusive is not the only thing in the new App Store’s favor, people will trust Amazon thanks to the years of great service they have served as an online retailer, also the store features a simple payment system and let’s you try before you buy.

The Android Market is good, however a lot of people think that it is not governed strictly enough, this has resulted in lots of low-quality apps finding their way onto the market. which has in-turn resulted in it becoming hard to find good apps. Could the Amazon App Store be a possible Android Market replacement?

We don’t see the Amazon App Store as being an Android Market replacement just yet, however if Amazon make purchasing great apps a hassle-free experience and continue to deliver the quality service we are used to seeing Google may have to have a think about the direction their Android Market is heading.

Do you think Amazon’s App Store will become a true replacement to the Android Market?

Amazon App Store: Could be up tomorrow http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/21/amazon-app-store-could-be-up-tomorrow/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/03/21/amazon-app-store-could-be-up-tomorrow/#comments Mon, 21 Mar 2011 12:41:21 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=125967 We told you a few weeks ago that Amazon were planning to launch its own Android App Store sometime this month, and now it looks it could be happening tomorrow.

Brian X. Chen from Wired is that they have been told by a trusted source Amazon’s store will be opening tomorrow. The new store will be similar to the Apple iTunes Store as no applications will be allowed on to it until they have been reviewed. Currently the Android Market Place has an anything goes policy.

It has been reported recently that some applications went live on the Amazon site briefly, after being discovered by an Android user. The source has said users will be able to get apps through Amazon.com or through an application on their mobile devices.

Some people have voiced concerns that having an Amazon app as well as the official Android Market Place could lead to some confusion on the platform. But as there are Amazon payment systems in many different countries across the world, the new app store may be a serious threat to the app stores of Google and Apple.

Many believe that Amazon could offer lower priced applications, and exclusive content. The Android Market Place has never had that polished feel of the iTunes Store, but having some competition may push Google into making some welcome improvements.

Will you use the Amazon Android App Store?

Amazon Kindle: Brilliant Year-Profits 60% Higher Than Expected http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/12/22/amazon-kindle-brilliant-year-profits-60-higher-than-expected/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/12/22/amazon-kindle-brilliant-year-profits-60-higher-than-expected/#comments Wed, 22 Dec 2010 02:02:11 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=117908 Recently we have been doing comparisons between various Kindle models and other eReaders; we also reported the news on an issue found with one of the leather cases. The cases are causing the machine to freeze and turn its self off.

Despite the case problems and any others they may have encountered since their release, Amazon Kindle will have made a lot of money this year. The profits were much higher than Kindle foresaw, in fact they were around 60% higher.

To give you an idea of just how popular these devices are, Apple sold 7.6 million of their iPads this year between the months of April and September and Amazon Kindle has sold 8 million units this year. We can let you know that this isn’t an official figure. Amazon don’t normally inform anyone of their figures.

This puts them in a superb position, especially with the Amazon App store; this adds personal value to your device, which ever you have. Currently there are 3 models being retailed by Amazon Kindle, these are the WiFi/3G model at $189, the WiFi only model for $139 and finally the larger screened model for $379.

You can read more about the figures recorded for the Amazon Kindle over at PCWorld by clicking here.

Are you surprised by these figures for the Kindle eReader? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Amazon App Store: The Apple of Android app marketplace http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/10/08/amazon-app-store-the-apple-of-android-app-marketplace/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/10/08/amazon-app-store-the-apple-of-android-app-marketplace/#comments Fri, 08 Oct 2010 13:54:08 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=110666 The well-known online retailer Amazon has launched many services in the past, including Amazon Video on Demand for streaming TV shows and movies, as well as a digital MP3 download service.

Now according to an article by Jennifer Allan over at electricpig.co.uk, it looks like an Amazon App Store will be launching, which specifically deals with Android apps. However, this may well change in the future.

Developers will of course have some content guidelines to adhere to, as Amazon wouldn’t want offensive content cluttering the app store, which could well be arriving within the next few months.

If you would like more information on this story, then head on over to electricpig.co.uk. With all the rules and guidelines being set, do you think that the new Amazon App Store will be the Apple of Android app marketplace?
