Since the launch of the iPhone both Apple and Adobe have not been the best of friends, due to Steve Jobs not being shy on saying what he thinks about their flash player. So it comes as no surprise that Adobe is to hold a keynote at the same time as the Apple event on October 4, 2011. Seems like iOS 5 will clash with its nemesis, which does seem a little silly to us.

Okay, so we know that there will be a few eyes on Adobe to see what they have to talk about, but let’s face it, most tech websites will only care about two things, iOS 5 and the new iPhone 5, although we are still uncertain if that will be the official name. Both events will begin at 10am Pacific.

The likes of Samsung, BlackBerry, HP and Motorola are sponsoring the Adobe event, although we still expect them to be listening to what Apple has to say – well they need to know what they are up against. AppleInsider is uncertain who called their keynote first, but we all know that Apple pulls these things out of the bag at the last possible moment.

Thankfully the relationship between the two companies have started to repair themselves, and there has been rumors that there could soon be limited support, as Apple and Adobe have now started to work more closely with each other. It does make sense, as both have been stubborn, and it’s only the user who loses out.

We do not know what to expect from the Adobe keynote, but it is strange how this has just come out of the blue, this is the first time we have heard about it. One has to wonder if they have chosen this time deliberately?

The issues sounding the new Mac OS X Lion and Adobe Flash are starting to really annoy Apple users, not only are we getting reports of issues with Flash heavy sites, which leads to the Mac CPU running extremely hot and a laptops battery life running out fast, but also problems with Dreamweaver are being reported. This article looks at the issue with Creative Suite 5.5 and OS X Lion 10.7, although we haven’t had problems with our version of Dreamweaver 5.5 but the Lion installation is not without problems.

Watching YouTube videos on the first generation MacBook Air was known for increasing the fan speed, but on the 2011 MacBook Air this is not a problem, until you install OS X Lion. We’ve visited a few sites that run flash advertisements, which have caused our 2011 iMac to completely lockup apart from the mouse pointer. We reported this issue to our readers a few days ago, since then things have become more evident. Each time the computer sleeps and then wakes up again, you can count on a lockup by visiting YouTube or most types of flash content. Having to force the iMac to shutdown can hurt hard drives so we, and our readers are not happy with Apple or Adobe, which leads us to the question: Who should we blame for the freezing on OS X Lion, Adobe or Apple?

The problems we’ve had and our readers have reported are directed heavily towards Adobe flash, and also include the player under OS X 10.7. Have you had enough of crashes on Lion, which until this version has been known as a solid operating system? Apple if you’re listening, get that patch live NOW and if it’s an Adobe issue, then we’d like to see some sort of press release on this. Let us know in the comments if you’ve had issues with Lion, and who is to blame in your opinion.

We have some rather interesting and fascinating news to share with web-design and web-developer enthusiasts around the internet universe. As you are aware, HTML5 is the new rising star in web based interfaces, maybe even taking over from Flash in a few years. With this, Adobe has announced the release of Adobe Edge; a new HTML5 tool that will help you on your HTML5 adventure, and even better, it is free of charge.

Of course, Adobe Edge wont always be free. Adobe are currently still testing the software themselves, and although it is still pre-beta, they want designers from all walks of creative-life to help them shape their product to make it the best, and easiest solution to helping HTML5 become a part of regular internet browsing life.

If you have concerns with using the software, we can tell you that Adobe Edge content will be compatible with all major browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Internet Explorer 9, as well as Android, BlackBerry PlayBook, iOS, and HP webOS based browsers.

Adobe state that Adobe Edge can also be used with existing websites as well as newly created ones, and can transform your existing website into some HTML5 animated goodness without destoying your current code. SVG, PNG, JPG and GIF files are all supported, and can be styled using CSS3 which then can be manipulated in any which way you wish.

Obviously, Adobe has a lot riding on this software which will fit in nicely with their current existing web-tools such as Dreamweaver CS5, Flash Professional CS5, and Flash Builder 4.5, and are asking you to freely use this software until the day comes where they will put it on the shelf themselves.

You can download the Adobe Edge HTML5 tool free from Adobe Labs, or you can check out more information such as system requirements via the Edge preview page.

A few months ago we announced that the hugely popular and critically acclaimed Machinarium game – which was originally launched for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux back in October 2009 – would be arriving on the PlayStation Network at some stage this year. We also told you that Amanita Design was working on a tablet PC version.

However, at the time we told you that the developer had chosen to explore the BlackBerry PlayBook over the Apple iPad. That doesn’t appear to be the case now though, as according to Anthony Usher from pocketgamer.co.uk, Jakub Dvorsky – the game’s designer and founder of Amanita Design – has recently confirmed that the game will be heading to the iPad.

When the developer spoke to pocketgamer.co.uk about the popular puzzle point-and-click adventure game last year, they said that although they wanted to bring it to the iPad, it wouldn’t happen soon as it would be very difficult to rebuild the game using a completely new engine. Machinarium is built in Flash, which as you is a format that’s not supported on iOS devices.

Not only did Dvorsky confirm that the game will indeed be heading to the iPad, he also revealed that it’s almost finished. In other words, the Machinarium game might be arriving on the Apple App Store sooner than we originally expected. However, Jakub did state that they do have a few bugs to fix and have to test it properly before it’s finally ready to be released.

For those of you that have never played Machinarium before, the game puts players in the mechanical shoes of a robot named Josef. Gamers are then tasked with preventing the city’s tower from being destroyed, by successfully solving a series of brainteasers and puzzles. You don’t even have to worry when you get stuck, as the game features a 2-tier hint system.

Rather than using written or spoken dialogue, the Machinarium game – which has won a number of awards since it was first released including the Best Soundtrack award from PC Gamer – uses an animated thought bubble system to convey important information. The game also comes with a sketched walkthrough, which can be unlocked by playing a mini-game.

Unfortunately there has been no word on a specific release date or price for the upcoming iPad version, but we’ll keep you updated if we do hear anything. Do you own an Apple iPad? If you do, will you be downloading the Machinarium game?

You may be aware of the problems that Adobe has been having with their Flash Player lately as they have launched two bug fixes in the space of about four weeks. The company, which patched its latest bug on Sunday, has confirmed today that the bug is being used by hackers to exploit Gmail accounts.

By this they mean that hackers are able to steal login and credentials from Gmail users’ accounts as the bug has revealed vulnerability. This is why Adobe was forced to release an emergency patch which unusually for the company fell at a weekend. It’s their fifth fix this year.

An example of how the hackers are doing this is explained by Wiebke Lips, spokeswoman for Adobe, she says they take advantage of the vulnerability by tricking users to click the harmful or malicious link via an email.

Adobe has indicated that the area which is being exploited is due to a cross-site scripting bug, this allows hackers to target those with the Flash Player plug-in rather than vulnerable browsers. According to the article at Computerworld virtually all users have this plug-in installed making them susceptible to attacks.

Check out the full article by clicking the link above for more information about the hacking. Are you a Gmail account holder?

For those of you wanting to know what Adobe CS5.5 upgrade has compared to CS5, a recent review aims to give you the answers. One thing we do know, Adobe would have had to pull out all the stops, as CS5 proved time and again how truly great is was/is. Do not get too exited though, as there are only a small number of enhancements in the latest version.

If you are in the market for a photographic suite that has bundles of extras, then the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 will have you amazed at just how big it all is. What users will be pleased about is that Audition is back and works on both Windows and Mac OS X. Coming back down to earth though, most of the new features are just updates to be able to work with video production techniques.

PC Pro has gone in-depth with the review, and even talks about how there is now support for RED cameras, along with some new features that makes it much easier when picking out a white point. There is now greater support for more graphics cards – the downside that they are still “Nvidia’s CUDA for acceleration.”

So the tough decision is if the number of feature upgrades warrants the amount of money you will have to part with in order to purchase Adobe CS5.5. If you choose the Premiere Pro, then you will have to part with £719. If you want a smooth and fast upgrade along with app integration, then you cannot say no to CS5.5.

It is no secret that Apple does not like the Flash Player too much, so much so that their iOS devices do not support it. However, the iPad 2 will benefit from Adobe Creative Suite 5.5, as there is HTML5 harmony. This means that Apple’s tablet device will be able to come into its own and unleash its power.

This software from Adobe is not for everyone, but is a vast improvement on the previous version; it is perfect if you are in the business of creating magazines, newspapers and even websites. What’s better is that Creative Suite 5.5 has been developed with tablet devices in mind, so perfect for the iPad 2, BlackBerry PlayBook or a host of Google Android tablets that are already on or coming to the market.

IntoMobile reports that creators of mobile apps will now feel less restricted with this latest version, as they no longer have to start from the bottom up – not only saving time but money as well. Smartphones and tablets are huge business now, and Adobe knows this. It would have been stupid for them not to offer HTML5 support, as they know that Apple will never support Flash, if they gave up on Apple then it would be like scoring an own goal.

You might start to think what is the downside; well you have to consider that Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 is a premium piece of software, so comes with a price to match. Expect to pay from $1299 to $2599. Is this software worth the price?

We have some very important news for those of you who have Adobe Flash 10.2 Player installed either on your desktop computer or your mobile device, as it has been confirmed by Adobe that a ‘critical’ vulnerability has been found with the potential to hijack your computer.

According to Adobe, the new flaw affects all operating systems, including those of you who have Flash 10.2 installed on Android smartphones. The flaw has been discovered in email messages, as a malicious .swf file which is embedded in a Microsoft .doc Word file, as reported from PC Mag.

This new bug specifically affects those running Adobe Flash Player 10.2.153.1 on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris, Adobe Flash Player 10.2.154.25 for Google Chrome users and also Adobe Flash Player 10.2.156.12 for Android – as taken from Adobe’s official website.

The exploit has the potential to crash and take full control of your system, so obviously you should now pay special attention when opening up those emails. If you think you may be affected by this, or just want to share your opinion, leave us a comment below.

Since Steve Jobs doesn’t like having Flash Player on the iPhone and other devices, iOS users are completely safe from this bug.

For those of you who prefer the Nook Color for its e-reading purposes than the other tablets currently out on the market, we have some exciting news. It seems the Nook Color is about to get a few extra features in its April update.

The little e-reader may now be used for a lot more than reading e-books. Though some Nook Color owners have been able to do a lot more with their device than initially designed for using custom firmware anyway, those that have stuck by the built in OS can now officially upgrade.

According to an article at Crave the update is to bring extra apps as well as Flash support for the device, therefore suggestions are that Android 2.2 could also be making an appearance on the device.

Also with these suggestions come hints of some sort of app store for the Nook Color. Barnes & Noble has been demonstrating the use of apps on the device since the day it was released, but no one thought the update would come this late.

More details about the update can be found in the article by clicking the link above. What do you think of what the update is set to bring to the Nook Color? Let us know in the comments below.

Having previously brought you news of the Flash Player 10.2 update, we have now been informed that Adobe has discovered security vulnerability. The company has launched a security alert for those using Flash Player on whichever platform.

This alert warns that the new ‘critical’ hole in the security that has been discovered may potentially allow for hackers to hijack the system being used as well as cause crashes. That includes all Adobe programs Acrobat software based and Reader as well as Flash Player products.

The news comes from an article at Adobe that explains how the systems are being exploited through a file embedded in an Excel Spreadsheet that is being emailed via an attachment.

The company says they are working to finalize a fix the problem as soon as they can but that won’t be available until the week of March 21st. After that the next quarterly update is due June 14th. More details can be found in the full article by clicking the link above, where they list exactly which versions are being affected.

Why do you think a security hole like this has appeared? What do you think of the way Adobe are handling the situation? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
