There are so many reasons why you should download the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader X, and one of those is to stop PDF spam attacks. It does not take long to check for an update, and will save you so much hassle in the long run. The latest such attack is known as Mal/PDFEx-J, which SophosLabs recently detected.

Naked Security has more details on this, as well as a few example screenshots of what you are likely to see. The website decided to take a sample of an offending piece of malware to give you an idea of what to expect, which they then opened up with numerous versions of Adobe reader.

Adobe Reader 8 did try to open the file, but did try to download as well as run the code from what was said to be a Colombian TLD. We are sure that people with more experience with this sort of thing will know what that means. We cannot stress how important it is to have Adobe Reader X, as this latest software did not suffer any such attack.

There was an error message, which you can see for yourself on the Naked Security website. Knowing that the latest version of Adobe Reader was able to stop this attack surly has to be reason enough to download it now.

You can get the latest version of Adobe Reader X here, you are advised that you might have to pause your antivirus software why it download and installs. Have you been a victim of the attack mentioned above?

Adobe seem to be doing its utmost to increase their reputation in terms of security, now an update for Adobe Reader has been released which patches 23 security vulnerabilities.

Last month Adobe promised to speed up security patches, and it seems as if they are sticking to their promise as they had originally planned to release this patch next week, but brought it forward due to hackers exploiting a bug in Acrobat’s font parsing.

Most of the bugs could lead to code execution, which means they were not particularly high threats, however one particular vulnerabilities could allow hackers to rig PDFs attached to emails.

Adobe has also hinted at plans of sandboxing the Windows version of Adobe Reader sometime this year, Adobe would call this protected mode, which should increase the software’s security massively.

Most computers should automatically download the update and notify you that it is ready for installation, if not check out this link for the full download.

Adobe have not been the best in the business at being the most secure over the years. This was proved today when the company rushed to patch two security holes in its popular PDF reader.

Adobe have only just recently fixed 6 critical flaws in its Flash software, and also promised to fix a vulnerability with Black Hat where they said they would release an emergency security update today.

The other was an unnamed flaw that fixed a flaw that could potentially lead to a social engineering attack.

The update brings the latest release version up to 9.3.4 and 8.3.4 for Reader and Acrobat.

More information on the security patch can be found at the source below.

If you have been looking for a PDF viewer for your Android smartphone we have some good news for you, Adobe Reader (presumably the most popular PDF reader in the World) is now available from the Android Market.

To run the application you must have a device running a least Android 2.1 Eclair, the device must have a processor of at least 550MHz and 256MB of RAM.

Multitouch gestures such as pinch and zoom and flick-scrolling are supported, perhaps the most impressive new feature is “reflow”, this automatically resizes text to suit your Android device’s screen.

Currently we are hearing that the Reader’s support pages suggest that the Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One are the only smartphones supported, however IntoMobile assure us that as long as your handset meets the previously mentioned specifications all should be fine.

To find out more about Adobe Reader for Android check out the source link below, also worth checking out is the AdobeReaderBlog.
