The lack of the Adobe Flash Player on the iPhone has been a contentious subject since the device was first released in 2007. Despite other manufacturers of products sometimes make a point of this; it hasn’t really been much of a problem for most users of iDevices. Now we have news of Adobe Flash on the iPhone at a price.

This news will eventually mean that iOS devices will be able to play Flash even better than the likes of Android and QNX. Adobe has released a new Flash Media Server 4.5 that will allow iOS users to watch Flash content but without the battery drain that is normally associated with it. It will also not cause the usual slowing down of the device when playing Flash content according to Appboy.

This move hasn’t come because Steve Jobs has suddenly retired and handed over the reins to Tim Cook. It is more of a climb down by Adobe, and the new version of the media server will configure content automatically for Apple’s mobile devices.

Content that lacks Flash support will have HTTP Dynamic Streaming or HTTP Live Streaming added that are both compatible with the iOS operating system. At the end of the day Adobe need Apple more than Apple needs Adobe. This won’t happen overnight though as Adobe is basically offering publishers the new Flash Media Server 4.5.

It is not exactly cheap though as it will set publishers back a cool $4,500 but Adobe stated “With Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5, media publishers now have a single, simple workflow for delivering content using the same stream to Flash-enabled devices or to the Apple iPhone and iPad”.

Now content providers using the new Flash Media Server 4.5 only have to import their media into it, and the software will do all the hard work converting it to whatever platform it is needed for. Does it bother you that there is currently no Flash on the iPhone?

Adobe’s Flash Player 10.2 update may have been in beta testing for three months, but it looks like the developer finally decided that it was time to make it an official update. The download – which includes key features such as font smoothing and hardware acceleration – has now gone live.

As Erez Zuckerman over at downloadsquad.switched.com notes, there are many reasons why the Flash Player 10.2 is a worthwhile update including the fact that it now supports Internet Explorer 9’s hardware acceleration capabilities, and features full-screen support for multi-monitors.

However, one of the main features included in the 10.2 update is the new Stage Video API. The Stage Video API allows high-performance video playback across multiple platforms. However, as it is not just a client-side change, developers will have to build in support for Stage Video.

Adobe has noted however that websites such as Brightcove, Vimeo and YouTube are already working on adding the support. You can read more about the Stage Video API feature via the adobe.com website, and download the Flash Player 10.2 update via the Adobe link here.

One significant advantage that Google Android has over App iOS is Flash support, however according to one Google Nexus One user there is a flaw with Flash 10.1 player for Android, which could be particularly annoying.

Apparently Flash content will play sound regardless of what mode your handset is set to, which means even if your phone is set to silent videos and advertising will not be silent.

Currently Flash 10.1 Player for Android is still only in its beta stages, therefore it is more than likely that Adobe will patch this issue before the proper release, until then beta users will have to put up with the annoyance.

Have you experienced this problem? Perhaps you have found a work-around, if so, feel fre to add your fix in the comments section below.

Update: Here is what Adobe has to say on the matter “The silent mode on Android is for Calls and Messages only, these are considered interruption events. The Android OS dictates that Media players have their own volume controls, this is common across most platforms”, therefore it is not a problem with Flash Player 10.1, it is just the way that Android configures sounds.

With the Apple Vs Adobe war heating up recently with both sides criticizing each other in what seems like a daily occurrence, Apple’s Steve Jobs seems to be heading closer to victory. A survey by video aggregator MeFeedia, shows that 26% of all video for playback is using the HTML5 video tag, and the H.264 codec.

This now means that owners of Apple’s portable devices can now get 26 per cent of video available on the web. The survey was a large one with over 30,000 sources, from sites like You Tube, DailyMotion, CNN, ABC, CBS, MTV and Vevo.

Adobe executives might be happy having 74 per cent share of video content, but the same survey was done at the beginning of this year with only 10 per cent being HTML5/H.264.

The company is currently running a self-promoting ad campaign and seems to be getting worried about the future, looks like they might have every reason to be. Click here for the full story on this.

What do you think should Adobe be worried about HTML5?

It was thought that a recent YouTube update to Adobe Flash 10 was the main issue, but the service is working just as it did before for others.

I had a look at some videos on the website, and I can tell you that I was not prompted with the update message like some of you were. I was able to watch videos with no problems whatsoever.

The problem should be fixed for most of you I’m guessing, after heading to Adobe’s website to download the latest version.

Let us know what kind of problems you were facing. Did you get the message, or was everything working as normal anyway? You can read our previous article here for more details on the changes.

In light of the recent news that YouTube requires you to upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, we thought that we would take a closer look at what new features there is in the latest update. If you do not download the upgrade, then you will not be able to view any videos from YouTube.

The latest version of Adobes software is Flash Player 10, but we know that they are working on 10.1, which you can find out more from Adobe Labs. The current version needed for YouTube will give you a much faster and smoother experience.

Do not tell Steve Jobs this, but most of us still love to use Adobe’s Flash Player as it offers an unprecedented creative control. Most of the new features will not matter to the everyday user who just wants to watch videos or play Farmville.

Some of the new features include:

Allowing you to extend rich web applications to mobile devices

Custom filters and effects unleash creativity

Print-quality publishing comes to the web

Web experiences come to life with 3D effects

These are just a few of the updates, for more details and to download to the latest version of the Flash Player, visit Adobe
