We keep seeing Netbooks making big changes in both design and the technology inside. The Eee PC 701 was great, but many improvements have been made since the release of this UMPC.
Forget all that emptiness around the keyboard and screen; the latest Netbooks use every bit of space to give you the most from mobile computing.
While the average computer user will be more than happy with his or her latest mini laptop, some users like to change things. This is where the modder comes in.
This is the Acer Aspire One and it has been revamped to include more RAM, a hard drive upgrade and a miniscule USB Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR adapter under the palm rest.
Some mini laptop owners will wonder why people even bother, but some may answer, “Because they can”. Have a read of this latest Mod here or view other laptop news.

Linux preferred over Microsoft Windows by Acer

We reported yesterday how open source is becoming more of a favorite by the end user and as money and budgets get tighter for the public this will only increase. Linux has been said to be preferred over Microsoft Windows by Acer, this will include the fact that a Linux laptop can be sold for less.
Cheap Laptops reported “Gianpiero Morbello, Vice President of Marketing for Acer has said that his Taiwanese PC maker is to develop the market for Linux, not just for its low cost ultra-portable but for the companies’ laptops as well; the reason given is due to the cost and operation of the Microsoft OS over open-source Linux”.
With this in mind, are you happy to buy a Linux laptop instead of a Windows machine?
We also heard that On Tuesday, Acer officially unveiled their entry into the low cost mini-laptop market by launching their Aspire One, which will come with both Windows XP and Linux. The Acer Aspire One price begins at $379 so it makes sense to cut costs as much as possible. The attraction for this is not only the cost but also the expectancy of a full-featured mini-laptop.
Some users also find Linux a faster software platform to boot up; the problem comes with people getting use to Linux rather than Windows.
Acer prepping gaming console: Will Acer be good in the game console market?

Acer is prepping a console gaming PC based on open standards and many of you may think will they be good in the leading market. I mean they would have to face Microsoft and Sony and even giants Nintendo.
Acer are considering the bid for the games console market or at least something in the way of gamer market share with say a game machine based on open standards. The question is “Does this mean a computer built to PC Gaming Alliance specs?
Acer are already on the PCGA board so will we be seeing some sort of PCGA spec machine, well whatever they are up to we cannot see this happening anytime soon but then we may be wrong.
Hands on: Acer Aspire 6920 and 8920G Gemstone Blue Notebooks

Well we mentioned earlier today about an announcement from Acer about their new Blue Notebook. We can now give you some more details about these new laptops. There are two in the range, these are the Acer Aspire 6920 and 8920G and are named the Gemstone Blue Notebooks.
The Aspire 6920 Blue has a 16-inch screen while the Aspire 8920G has an 18.4-inch screen. Although laptops are thin, they are still bulky, and the CineTouch controls that are to the left of the keyboard is not as good as Acer hopes. However with that aside Acer has worked hard on the design of the Gemstone Blue Notebooks and they have done a good job.

Acer ups the storage capacity to 3TB on the easyStore SOHO NAS

Acer have not said much about the SOHO Altos easyStore NAS, the thing is you think that they would want to let consumers know that they have upped the storage capacity to 3TB. The tower is black in color and has four drives; there is a web to interface disk option.
Acer has also thrown in a bootable CD, this allows for you to restore your system if you have had a system failure. As you know the 2TB version is already available, however it is not sure when Acer plan to release the 3TB version.
