In just over a week CES 2012 will kick off, here we will undoubtedly get to see lots of new smartphones, tablets and laptops etc and today we have some details regarding a new netbook called the Acer Aspire One D270 which is said to make its debut at the show. Note: All of the specs mentioned in this article havn’t been confirmed officially, however they were sourced from NotebookItalia and look pretty legitimate to us.

We don’t have all the details regarding the D270, but we have pretty much everything that’s important, here’s what we know: Firstly and most importantly it rocks one of Intel’s new 32nm Cedar Trail processors – apparently it will feature the Atom N2600, a dual-core chip which boasts two 1600MHz cores, Hyperthreading and a 400MHz embedded graphics core. What’s great about this new architecture is that you get better performance and lower power-consumption than second-gen and first-gen Intel Atom processors.

Other specs we know of include 1GB of RAM, a 320GB hard disk drive, a 10.1-inch display and the choice between a three-cell or six-cell battery. Based on its predecessor (the D260) we expect there to be WiFi b/g/n, a multi-cardreader and a built-in webcam all running on Windows 7 (Starter Edition we presume). Hopefully it will ship with Bluetooth connectivity, HDMI-out, a higher resolution display than last year’s 1024 x 600 output and perhaps the same dual-boot Android / Windows 7 configuration which other Aspire One models have featured.

As promised we also know how much of a dent these models will make in your pocket, the three-cell battery version is said to retail at €250, whilst the six-cell model will cost €269, this equates to roughly $324 and $348 USD respectively. As you would expect we strongly recommend the six-cell option as the price difference is minimal.

Once CES 2012 kicks off we should find out more about this intriguing new netbook, we wonder whether it will feature a refined physical design when compared to the D260, also it will be nice to compare benchmark results to see just how much of a punch the D270 and its Cedar Trail processor packs.

What puts you off the D270 specs? We would like to see an affordable upgrade to 2GB of RAM.

You do not have to be a genius to understand that the netbook market has suffered and will continue to suffer with the onslaught of tablet devices. However, that does not stop Acer from launching yet another model, the Aspire One E100. The company hopes that its Android / Windows dual-boot feature will help it sell, but are you convinced?

Maddy Rowe From Online Social Media has managed to get some limited details on the new device, and what we can see the specs are just standard – this would have to be the reason why Acer went with a dual-boot mode, as they needed it to be different.

The 10.1-inch netbook comes with an Atom processor – not certain what speed – 1GB of RAM and 250GB hard drive. Is it me or could we be talking about most of the other netbooks on the market? Having the choice of Windows or Android has to be a nice touch, as different users want different things. If only they would offer Mac OS X.

Donald Melanson from Engadget says that Acer is aiming the E100 towards the education market, and you can see that there is space for school branding. There are no details as to a price or release date, but it needs to be reasonably low in this competitive market.

If one of your loved-ones wants a netbook for Christmas we may have come across the perfect model, this is the Acer Amethyst Purple Aspire One (model: AO532h-2254).

Above we have embedded a couple of photos of this netbook, in my opinion the build quality looks good and the design is pretty desirable, what do you think?

In terms of specs it is quite impressive, you can see a full specification breakdown here, to summarize you get a 10.1-inch LED-backlit LCD display which supports a resolution of 1024×600, an Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, a 160GB SATA hard drive, Ethernet, WiFi b/g/n, Intel GMA graphics, a built-in webcam, a card reader, 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x VGA port, a 6-cell lithium-ion battery and Microsoft Windows 7 Starter Edition.

225 user reviews for this model have been submitted on Walmart, 151 people gave it 5 stars and 50 people gave it a 4 star rating, it looks like people are happy with its value for money and feel it met their expectations, however most people recommend the optional upgrade to 2GB of RAM, you can see lots of reviews here.
