Confusing Ace Combat: Assault Horizon review score

Whenever you get a game that takes some of the good features from Modern Warfare we think that a developer has not tried to be original enough. However, when that is implemented onto a combat flight simulator game, then the reaction is a little different. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (view trailer) is out today in the US, and we have a little problem with some recent review scores, as they seem a little confusing.

The first review was from Game Master, and they have given Assault Horizon and 87 percent, so how come CVG calls this a very pleasing score? Maybe we have come to expect game reviews to always hit over 90 percent these days? Some readers feel that the review does not offer that much, as it is only 3 paragraphs long.

Can we really take a review seriously if they have not put much effort into a more in-depth look at the game? Game Master themselves has said that the game is not that great, which is why they gave it a lower score – again CVG said it was pleasing. `So where does the game fail, well there are suggestions that the franchise has now lost its way by giving it a sort of Call of Duty makeover.

I love these types of games, but always have an issue with the speed of such a game. Trying to complete missions is a very tough task, as the plane moves along at speeds that require fast reflexes. Personally the old WWII flight combat games have more to offer, as you can get a feel for the plane more – well that and the aircrafts have more character.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon – US / European Release Date Revealed

Back in August last year we announced that Namco Bandai had confirmed that it would indeed be releasing the Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game sometime this year. Although we have seen a trailer and screenshots emerge since then, we have had no confirmation of a release date.

That has all changed now however, as according to a recent article by Christopher Dring over at mcvuk.com, both the US and European release date has now been revealed. UK gamers can expect the game to arrive on October 14th, while US gamers get it a little earlier on October 11th.

The upcoming Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game – which will be available for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – is said to be a bit of a reboot for the Ace Combat series. As we mentioned in a previous article, the game will include single and multiplayer options.

Those who either pre-order the Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game or pick it up on the day of launch, will also have the opportunity to receive a special premium edition that includes a steelbook, exclusive DLC, a notebook, a DVD and a soundtrack. This will be the same price as the normal edition.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon – New Trailer and Screenshots Emerge

We first heard news about the upcoming Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game back in August last year, when Namco Bandai Games confirmed that the game was on its way. All we knew at that stage however was that the game would be launching for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime in 2011.

However, we now have another bit of good news for fans of the Ace Combat series, as Namco has recently released a brand new trailer and several screenshots for the much-anticipated title. As Jonathan Leack at playstationlifestyle.net notes, the Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game sees the series return to a modern setting.

The game will feature dogfights in cities such as Miami and Dubai and judging by the recent trailers, players can expect to see jets such as the A-10 Thunderbolt, the F-22 Raptor and helicopters such as the Apache Longbow included in Project Aces’ arcade combat flight game.

As Hamza CTZ Aziz over on the destructoid.com website recently reported, the developer has introduced a brand new gameplay mechanic called Close Range Assault into the Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game, which apparently puts players right on the tail of the enemy’s jet.

Meanwhile, the single-player story campaign – which is set in the year 2015 – sees you play as multiple characters including the game’s main man William Bishop. You can check out the new (and impressive) screenshots via the destructoid.com website.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Trigger Finger – Now Available on iOS

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners may have to wait until 2011 for the release of the Ace Combat: Assault Horizon game, but if they own an Apple iOS device such as an iPhone or iPod Touch they can actually play the combat flight title a little earlier.

As recently reported by Tom Pakinkis over at computerandvideogames.com, Namco Bandai has recently announced the arrival of the Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Trigger Finger app for Apple iOS, which should be available to download now via the Apple App Store.

The free app allows users to fly solo, or even engage in handheld battles with a friend. Once players have chosen between the Typhoon and the Su-33 Flanker, they can then pilot their fighter jet just by moving their iPhone or iPod Touch around.

Touching the handset’s screen either fires missiles, or unleashes bullets from the Vulcan cannon. The app even comes with authentic sounds and a Camera Mode, which enables you to play the game against a backdrop such as your bedroom or workplace.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon – Xbox 360 and PS3 Release Info

Namco Bandai is bringing the Ace Combat series back to consoles with a new game called Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, they’re promising a game-changing rebirth for those willing to fly the unfriendly skies again.

Namco Bandai confirmed that the game will include both single-player and multiplayer options, but other than that, didn’t provide any other details.

The last Ace Combat video game was Ace Combat: 6 Fires of Liberation, which was released just over three years ago. “For us, this is a rebirth of our premiere franchise, Ace Combat,” said Producer and Executive Director Kazutoki Kono. “It’s a chance for us to take the player in a completely new direction.”

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 some time in 2011, as soon as we know anything more on this game we will let you know.
