There is speculation that the Nexus 7 2nd-generation is to be the first device released running Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, but we find this a little hard to believe. The reason we say this is because Google is expected to unveil the new version of the ASUS 7-inch budget tablet next month during their I/O event, but we have reason to believe KLP will be delayed by several months.

There does seem to be a conflict here, as IBT expects to see the release of the Nexus 7 sequel around July, which is set to take yet more sales away from the Apple iPad mini. However, another news report states that Android 5.0 could be delayed by 2 to 4 months, although we do not even know when the mobile OS was due for release.

When Google does unveil the Nexus 7 2, then we have to wonder what version of Android the tablet will run on? They could have an early Key Lime Pie build just to give us a taste of what to expect, then again it could run on Jelly Bean for now. This is not a huge issue, as ASUS and Google will not release the new Nexus 7 until KLP is ready.

As yet Google has not even announced that they will be showing off Android 5.0, but it’s the best platform for them to launch their iOS 7 competitor This is also the case with the Nexus 7 sequel, as we still have no idea if the tablet even exists, but recent rumors seems to suggest otherwise.

What do you think we are likely to see during Google I/O 2013? Will we see both the Nexus 7 2nd-gen and Android 5, or even the rumored updated version of the Nexus 4, which is said to come with increased storage. Then again, there’s a small chance we could even see the Nexus 5.

From the many different rumors we have read in regards to the Nexus 7 sequel, there’s a general consensus that a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU will be running things. As for some of the other Nexus 7 2nd-gen specs, those are still up in the air for the moment.

Even though we have know idea when the new Nexus device from ASUS will be released, there has been several Nexus 7 2 sales predictions, and if they are correct then the tablet could generate a good income for ASUS and Google.

According to a DigiTimes source, they believe that the next-generation Nexus 7 will ship around eight million units by the end of the year, with one million of them being sold in May. If we are to believe these sales figures, then the Nexus 7 sequel release date could be at the start of next month.

We do find this release date a little strange, because if the Nexus 7 successor were to be released at the start of May, then it would be before Google I/O. But if the new Nexus tablet saw a release during the event, then those one million sales would happen in just half a month, which would be impressive.

The release date for this deceive is something we are uncertain of, as well as those specs, but maybe Google and ASUS would wish to wait until a year after the original, which would mean the Nexus 7 sequel would not be released until July?

Whatever happens this new version will need to come with a competitive price, because of the choice of other 7-inch Android tablets on the market, as well as keeping a fine balance with a spec upgrade as well. It looks as though ASUS and Google will have to undertake a fine balancing if they want to achieve those sort of sales figures.

If you are not a developer, then it would be rather pointless trying to install Ubuntu Touch on a Nexus 7 tablet, although enthusiasts can also give this a go. The reason for this is because you will need to wipe your device clean; so most users will not want to entertain such an idea. If there were something worth keeping on your tablet then we would advise you to give this a miss.

Once you are certain this is what you want then the next step is how to install Ubuntu Touch on Nexus 7. You are first advised to have the correct default Android image at hand, and then back up those photos, documents and so forth that you wish to keep.

There are several other steps as well, which have been explained in this article, or if you would rather watch a video of this then you can do so below, as this is often far easier to follow than reading through a step-by-step process.

As always there are always a few issues when doing things like this, so we expect that there will be several Nexus 7 Ubuntu Touch problems. Upon digging around we have learned from one user who had tried to install Ubuntu on their Nexus 7 after following the usual procedure. However, for some reason their tablet is not being detected by fastboot any longer.

They were told it could be driver related, but they believe they have all the correct drivers. Having already tried to install with windows as well, the Nexus 7 was still not recognized. All the person affected by this issue can do is stay in bootloader, which you can read more about here. So what can they do to resolve this issue?

This is just one issue with the Ubuntu Touch for the Nexus 7, and we’d love to know if you have suffered the same problem, or even another that you would like to share with our readers?

Things have been a little quiet in regards to the Nexus 7 sequel, but that doesn’t mean we will not see one soon. We already know Google will hold their I/O event next month, as invitations have already been sent out, and it’s expected that ASUS will be there to show off their Nexus 7 2nd-gen tablet.

However, the latest news suggests we will not see the new device release until July, although this doesn’t stop ASUS and Google teasing us some of the new features of the next-gen Nexus 7 during the event. Having said that, we don’t expect to see any major changes, as there seems to be an importance in keeping the price low, much like Apple plans to do with the iPad mini 2.

Even though the Nexus 7 second-generation is expected to drop to $149, which is $50 cheaper than the current model, there will still be a few hardware improvements, such as a shift to a Qualcomm chip, an improved display and hopefully a rear-facing camera. While the form-factor looks set to stay the same, Reuters believe the bezel could be slightly thinner.

Sales of the Nexus 7 have been very positive, but both ASUS and Google must feel this new aggressive pricing strategy will help them sell even more units when the sequel comes to market. As a result they expect to shift at least 8 million units of the new tablet by the end of the year, but is this wishful thinking?

We say this because one key area that needs to be rectified is the cheap feel and look of the Nexus 7. Don’t get us wrong, ASUS and Google have come up with a great product, but they need to make it look less like a toy this time. Having said that, there will be those who disagree and believe the Nexus 7 looks and feels great.

For those of you who have been waiting to get your hands on the Nexus 7 in India, then you will be pleased to learn the ASUS tablet is finally available to purchase via the Google Play Store in the country. However, before you get too exited, there are limitations with the storage options.

The 16GB Nexus 7 is currently the only storage option available to the Indian market at this time, but this should change once Google and ASUS are able to evaluate if the tablet has proved popular or not. We’re told the price for the Nexus 7 in India is Rs. 15,999, which converts to $295.

To some this seems a little expensive and could prove an issue in a market all about value for money. It’s hard to say if such a price will affect sales or not, but if it does then this could cause an issue for the larger storage capacity being released at a later date.

The tablet will begin shipping to the Indian market from April 8, 2013, but this has only opened up old wounds, yes we are talking about the availability of the Nexus 4 in India. This handset by LG and Google has been expected to see a release in India for sometime now, and even though the release of the Nexus 7 in the country is seen as a good sign, we have to remind you that both companies have been unable to agree on a competitive price, and as such have caused this delay, which is explained in more detail in this report.

However, things are looking more positive now, although they cannot expect to release the Nexus 4 in India if they cannot even get the pricing of the Nexus 7 correct.

Do you believe Google is getting rid of their stock before the 2nd-generation Nexus 7 is announced?

Looking at a recent news report it looks as though the release timeline for the Nexus 7 successor and iPad mini 2 in 2013 share the same similarities as last year, which means that the ASUS tablet should land first with the Apple device bringing up the rear.

Many of us are expecting Google to announce the release of the Nexus 7 2nd-generation in May with a release a few months after, which is certain to be before the iPad mini 2nd-gen as this will not be expected to be released to the public until October, even though there had been rumors of a much earlier showing.

It’s tough keeping up with these rumors and it’s hard to know what ones we should pay attention to. The latest rumor regarding the release dates for the Nexus 7 and iPad mini successors has been keeping a close eye on the supply chain, but still, we should not read anything into these just yet.

Both versions of these tablets are expected to receive an upgrade to their displays, but the iPad mini 2 with its rumored 2,048 x 1,536 pixels compared to the Nexus 7 successor and its 1,920 by 1,200 display has the edge – if true of course.

Looking at the current two tablets from Apple and ASUS we expect the iPad mini 2 to have the edge once again in various departments, such as more screen area and better battery life. Let’s hope that ASUS is able to up the ante and improve in these areas, as well as trying to get the weight and thickness down at the same time.

However, in order to achieve this they may need to increase the price a little, although they could find it tough to do so considering Apple is less likely to increase the price of the iPad mini 2.

We are uncertain why these docks are already out of stock, but the price tag of $29.99 could be one reason. However, this puts doubt on Google’s ability for supply and demand on actual physical products, the Nexus 4 stock farce is a fine example of that.

The price of the Nexus 7 dock was around $10 cheaper than third-party retailers offering the same accessory, so it’s understandable why there was a huge demand, although running out of stock after a few hours is still no excuse no matter how popular it was.

For those of you who were lucky enough to get your order of the Nexus 7 Dock in you will have to wait about 2 weeks for shipping. It’s worth reminding you that while the handset and docking station does not support HDMI you can still listen to your music and play videos while the tablet is charging.

As yet Google has not offered any sort of update as to when more stock will become available, but they need to get more units in so that owners of the ASUS Nexus 7 tablet don’t have to go to the likes of Amazon and pay a premium just to get the dock.

Google I/O is said to be May 15-17, 2013 and there are already some great expectations for this event, not only for the much rumored Google X Phone from Motorola, but also the Nexus 7 2, and this device is only a rumor for now. However, this has not stopped those with the current version sharing their wish list of what features they would like to see in the release of the 2nd-gen model.

It’s still not known if Google and ASUS will introduce a new model at the event, but if we are to believe the rumors then there is a good chance. Because we assume that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will see its debut at Google I/O it’s possible that the Nexus 7 sequel will get the new version of the mobile OS, which could make it the first Android tablet to do so. We also expect the Google X Phone to be the first smartphone to sport Key Lime Pie as well.

Many owners of the current Nexus 7 have already been asked this question, but as we assume the unveil is pretty close it makes sense to see if peoples needs have changed over the months.

Many of our readers have already told us that they would love to see a 64GB nexus 7 2nd-generation model and an improved display, which makes sense considering the iPad mini 2 is expected to get an upgrade to its screen as well.

Front-facing camera is a little poor so could do with a higher rated one, as well as having a rear-facing camera as well. A microSD card slot would be very welcome, as would an improved battery and also better overall build quality.

It’s safe to say that we will see a new version of the Nexus 7 later this year, but do you think that these needed upgrades will have an effect on its price, or will Google try to keep the new model at the current price?

While the announcement of the Galaxy S4 from Samsung was a huge deal at MWC, we can’t help feel more excited about the release of the HP 7 Slate, but only because the tablet was there to be touched. From what we can make from this, HP looks set to get into the business once again, as we all know they had to discontinue the TouchPad.

It’s nice to see that HP is back and ready to take on the likes of the Nexus 7, so it was inevitable that there would be a HP Slate 7 vs. Google Nexus 7 review video being taken at MWC, just to look over their similarities and no doubt more reviews will appear in the coming days. However, before we take a look at that video review (above) we thought that you might want to know some of those basic specs.

HP Slate 7 will run Android (not webOS or Windows) and will come rocking a 7-inch display, dual-core A9 processor, 1GB of RAM, just 16GB of storage (no 32GB option) and finally a 3-megapixel camera.

The soft touch rubber to the rear over a stainless steel chassis might not be to everyone’s taste, but it seems to be a direction that so many phone and tablet makers are going in now. One of the main reasons for this is because they are much easier to hold, so less likely that they will slip out of your hand.

Both the HP Slate 7 and Nexus 7 run stock Android Jelly Bean, but they do differ in many other aspects, such as the former has a rear facing camera, but this is not the case for the latter, as it has just the front-facing 1-megapixel camera. View the video above just to see how the two compare.

We can tell you that the HP Slate’s release date will be sometime in April with a price of $169, which is cheaper than the Nexus 7 and far cheaper than the iPad mini.

The recent Nexus 7 stock issues were the real deal and not due to only sending out limited stock like Microsoft has done with the Surface Pro. LG and Google have been working hard to get on top of things and trying to increase Nexus 4 availability.

Consumers have been visiting websites and also heading down to their local retailer in the hope that they have an update on Nexus 4 and even Nexus 7 stock. However, help is at hand to make the process of checking stock much easier thanks to the use of Google Maps.

Using these new Google Maps URLs you will be able to find the location of your nearest retailer stocking the Nexus 4 smartphone and 7 tablet. All you need to do is enter your address and you will see results appear from 5–50 miles from your location.

We thought we would give the URL a go and found that only T-Mobile is stocking the Nexus 4, but more retailers should appear once more stock becomes available – whenever that will be. What would really be cool if Google could offer a stock alert for those wanting a new Nexus 4, this could be linked to their Google Play account.

It’s no wonder that the Nexus 4 is selling out so quickly because a review of the specs shows that it is more than capable of holding its own against the other high-end smartphones on the market, as well as the price being very competitive.

Since its release date the Nexus 4 has been in and out of stock, and there has even been issues with its accessories, with the wireless charger only becoming available recently.

It’s not just the USA who is having Nexus 4 stock issues, as the UK and all across Europe are also experiencing the same issues. For a Nexus 4 stock update visit here and Nexus 7 stock checker here.
