Magnavox MWR10D6 Progressive Scan DVD Recorder

If you are looking to record long-lasting discs just like you used to with your old VCR, then the Magnavox MWR10D6 Progressive Scan DVD Analog Recorder is perfect for the job.

The recorder is an old system but it does have something going for it, the price. When you used to record from the TV on a VCR you did not ever get a perfect picture. That has all changed with the introduction of a DVD recorder, no longer will you be looking at fuzzy pictures and you do not have to track it either.

The Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder works just fine with most discs, even some of the expensive models has a hard time reading all discs. I have to say that compatibility seems to be far better than this cheap player should be, that is a great thing for those wanting to purchase one of these.

The Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder allows you to do some light editing, like putting titles on discs and on chapters. The one problem is the lack of an LED display of the time and counter.

Woot is currently selling the Magnavox Progressive Scan DVD Recorder for $34.99

Xbox 360 HD DVD player update
We all know that HD DVD has died and gone to heaven but Microsoft are not letting that stop them, because they are still showing the current Xbox 360 HD DVD player owners amazing love with the release of today’s auto update.

You can connect to your Xbox Live with a HD DVD player firmly integrated into your 360, once you are there you will be asked to download a new update, this new update will apparently help with the compatibility issues with some titles and will add additional support for network features.

Oh we must tell you that this update will not bring back to life Toshiba’s commitment to HD DVD but it should make your HD movie viewing a little better.

Oh Microsoft you do try!

Will the Microsoft Xbox 360 with Blu-ray cause a price war with Sony PS3?

xbox_360-blu-ray-integrated price war
Remember yesterday we told you about the next generation Microsoft Xbox 360 which will have Blu-ray (See Here), of course you must remember this could be just a rumor.

Well if Microsoft do indeed integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox 360 this means that Microsoft will take on Sony and this is when a price war would begin.

So with Microsoft playing Sony at their own game, some sources have said that the Blu-ray Disc drive will cost Microsoft between $95 and $100 which is much higher than the $18 to $20 DVD drives that are already in the Xbox 360.

Microsoft could be selling the Blu-ray set up at a loss which means that Sony would have to or should we say forced to sell their PS3 at a lower cost to compete or do something else to win it all. The way we look at it if Microsoft are putting Blu-ray in their next-gen gaming consoles then it will be a good all rounder to see what happens and of course consumers being the real winners.

Mitsubishi Blu-ray recorders can store HD content on to standard DVD’s
Mitsubishi have released two new Blu-ray players, the 500GB DVR-BZ200 and also the 250GB DVR-BZ200. Both of these players have support for Blu-ray’s AVCREC specification, what this mean is that you can record around 2 hours of Full HD content on a standard DVD disc.

However as always there is always a catch and that is the standard is only limited to ISDB broadcasts, this means that you can only use this service in Japan at the moment. However it should not be to long before we start to see more AVCREC capable devices.

Toshiba DVD burner: Gigashot HD video camera add-on
The Gigashot HD camcorders already have a huge storage capacity of either 80GB or 100GB, however if that is still not enough and you like to free up some space then Toshiba have a new DVD burner add-on. You have the choice of either transferring the data from the hard drive on your Gigashot HD video camera, or record directly on to DVD-Rs.

The DVD burner drive also has HDMI, component and composite outputs, this allows for you to connect it to your TV. There is also a handy little remote as well.

Expect to pay ¥17,800 that’s $165
