I cannot see all the fuss with 3D, because I am part of a small percentage of people who are unable to see the technology in all its beauty. The common term is called stereo blind, after trying to watch a movie I am left with a bad neck and a headache. However, you do not need to be stereo blind to suffer from those pains. This leads us into something that has been on our mind for some time now, where would you rather watch a 3D movie, at the cinema or at home in your living room?

A recent study has been looking into a fatiguing issue when watching 3D, something that can become uncomfortable when at your local movie theater. Those who took part in the test found that they would feel more fatigued and suffered from eyestrain when viewing a 3D movie from a further distance away. This means that those watching it at the cinema will feel far more uncomfortable.

When the participants were much closer the comfort was much less to hardly at all. Also for those sitting nearer were able to appreciate the technology more, as what was being displayed would pop out at you much more. The study was conducted so that the likes of Sony and Samsung can learn form this and make their technology even better.

Let’s face it, Samsung will not want to sell you a product that will make you fell sick or hurt your eyes now well they? Different TV makers use different 3D technology, so some will be more comfortable to view than others, although the study did not go into specifics about which brand performed best. However, those who felt more comfortable in the cinema watched certain content then complained that it made them feel uncomfortable at home.

This means that cinemas and TV makers need to decide what sort of content pops out at the viewer, and by how much. If you have too much to concentrate on that is when things get a little uncomfortable.

There are many consumers who still believe that 3D is a novelty and will not be on the market for long. There is a good argument for this, and it is not the fault of the technology, but rather our brain, as it was never made to try and decipher such information. We recently discussed how almost 50 percent those who have the 3D technology in their homes have decided not to use it.

A recent article posted on MyNintendoNews appears to have confirmed that when the Nintendo Wii U arrives in 2012 it will allow gamers to output the console’s visuals in 3D. Prior to this we have only seen the PlayStation 3 offer this in the home console market, whilst the recently released Nintendo 3DS allows handheld gamers to get in on the 3D action.

This news was revealed by Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, he said “If you are going to connect Wii U with a home TV capable of displaying 3D images, technologically, yes, it is going to be possible, but that’s not the area we are focusing on”. As you can see the statment is quite carefully worded, but it at least proves that the technology within the Wii U will allow for 3D output, from here Nintendo can give the Wii U whatever 3D functionality it sees fit.

This was a slight shock because the news was never announced at E3 2011, we would have thought that Nintendo would have promoted such an important and exciting feature at the world’s most popular gaming expo as it would have helped build the hype for the Wii U. This news suggests that adding the 3D capability to its latest handheld has been seen as a success and it also suggest tells that Nintendo see 3D as the way forward.

Some people are still sceptical about 3D, myself included, however as long as it is an option and not a necessity we think that this is a good thing for the Wii U. Sony’s PS3 first arrived in late 2006 and last year firmware updates gave the console 3D capabilities, we think that if a 5-year old console offers this functionality Nintendo’s next-gen console needs to offer it out-of-the-box, if not it may be heavily criticized for being a next-gen console with previous-gen visuals.

We wonder if Microsoft will follow suit with its next-gen console, currently there is no 3D output offered by the Xbox 360 and no sign of an update bringing this either, sources have previously stated that the Xbox 720 may arrive in 2012, if this is the case we find it hard to believe that there will be no 3D capabilities as at this time Microsoft’s biggest rivals in the gaming market will boast this functionality. It is possible that like many, the guys over at Microsoft will see 3D as a bit of a fad which will die out, but we think it is far more likely that the 3D visuals will be available from its next-gen console in an attempt to keep everyone happy.

ASUS appear to have been quite busy recently; what with all the new products it has been unveiling at the Computex 2011 event. We’ve already brought you details on the ASUS Padfone and the UX21 notebook, and now we thought we’d take a look at the ASUS ROG G53SX.

As Chris Davies at slashgear.com notes, the ASUS ROG G53SX gaming notebook comes with a glasses-free 3D display, a 2nd generation Sandy Bridge Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics card with 2GB GDDR5 of video memory, as well as 3D content creation and editing software.

The G53SX gaming notebook can not only convert 2D content into glasses-free 3D content, it can also show both 2D and 3D windows on the screen side-by-side. It also comes with 3DTV Play connectivity, THX and EAX 5.0 3D sound and a 10,000 rpm hybrid hard-drive with SSD partition.

It also comes with a 5-degree inclined keyboard aimed at comfort during those long gaming sessions, and rubber-coated palm rests that are aimed at preventing wrist fatigue and sweating. You can read about more new ROG products via the slashgear.com link above.

Unfortunately there is no word on pricing or availability at this stage, but we will keep you informed when we do hear details. Are you looking to buy a new gaming notebook?

According to a recent article by Chris Davies over at slashgear.com, the Samsung AF315 all-in-one PC boasts a super-slim bezel that is supposedly targeted at female customers. It also comes with Intel’s 2.75GHz i5-2390T processor and AMD Radeon HD6730M 1GB graphics.

The AF315 sports a 23-inch full HD 3D display, a 1TB hard drive, a TV tuner, Bluetooth, Blu-ray player, USB 3.0 port and 4GB of DDR3 memory. The Samsung AF315 also comes with a permanently powered USB port that charges your gadgets even when the Windows 7 PC is switched off.

As Thomas Ricker over at engadget.com reports, the AF315 comes packaged with a remote control and a wireless keyboard and mouse combo. The AF315 all-in-one desktop PC will be going on sale as from May 26th (tomorrow) in South Korea, with a price tag of 2.19 million won ($1,987).

We are unsure at this stage whether or not the Samsung AF315 will become available in any other countries, but we’ll keep you updated if we do hear anything. Would you like to see this all-in-one released in other countries other than South Korea?

As you may know Samsung has now announced their free 3D VOD service in the UK, but we have to wonder if the country is ready for Samsung to explore this 3D stream app for the Smart TV? The reason we ask this is due to the fact that broadband Internet speeds are much lower in the United Kingdom than they are in Korea or the U.S.

It is all very well having this latest service, but 3D streaming will be more demanding than HD, and we all know how slow streaming is for that when using Apple TV. We do not want to sound negative in any way, as we have mentioned in numerous posts how much we like the new Samsung Smart TV and the apps to go with it. However, we just feel that broadband is unable to keep up with this kind of content.

We know that Virgin is working hard to increase their cable coverage, as is BT with their new Infinity service. However, we can expect this to take over a decade to reach a decent percentage of the UK. Most broadband users in the UK are getting from 2MBPS to 6MBPS, to get more you have to be living right on top of the exchange.

Having said that, Pocket-lint has learned that Samsung knows of this issue, but state that 4MBPS is more than enough to stream 3D movies. However, you have to consider another fact, although most ISPs offer an unlimited bandwidth; they also run a fair usage policy – will 3D streaming violate that policy?

Is your broadband connection fast enough for Samsung Smart TV 3D streaming?

Internet connected TVs are set to become a big market with various companies bringing the capability to their sets. Samsung has been leading the way with their collection of TVs with their in-built Smart Hub. Samsung have now announced a free 3D VOD service for the UK.

The on demand content will be available via the Samsung Smart Hub with the Explore 3D application, according to an article on Techradar by Marc Chacksfield. To start with there will be twenty different genres of programming. These will include films, children’s classics, documentaries, music videos, and trailers.

Currently only DreamWorks have been confirmed as a partner. Vice President of Consumer Electronics for Samsung, Andy Griffiths, has said “The demand for 3D is growing rapidly, but only a handful of channels are providing content”. He also promised the company will continue to grow the Smart TV service in the future.

This is added to other recent additions to the Samsung Smart Hub, which include the on demand Channel Five app. Users can download the app directly from the Samsung store, and is available for all Samsung Smart TVs.

The iPad 2 is still launching in other countries, and there is already talk about what we can expect to see with Apple’s next-gen tablet device. How about iPad 3 3D technology, that is one possibility, but Hollywood has a content dilemma, as they will have to work hard if they have any hope of supplying enough content for Apple’s device.

RCR Wireless learned of this through a number of sources, as well as talking to people in Hollywood; so the iPad 3 could truly be 3D. Apple always likes to keep up with what it going on and likes to do things first, but they have been beating by LG Optimus Pad 3D. However, that tablet needs you to wear glasses to enjoy the full 3D experience – maybe Apple will offer a glasses-free option?

We cannot be certain how much truth there is to this latest rumor, but Apple must know that 3D is the next big thing – well to some – so surly there has to be truth in this one. If Apple were to offer 3D support for the iPad 3, then they need to upgrade a few other features, the main one being the sound.

There is nothing better than engrossing yourself in a movie or game than with a great sound quality. This is on area where Apple seems to lack behind rivals; you only have to look at the iPhone to know just what we mean. This will then mean that developers will have to come up with 3D apps; now how awesome would that be?

The Sprint HTC EVO 3D has only been on the market for a week, and already it has been showing some real life potential. You can see that the design of the handset is a lot like the original EVO, but with one major difference – two cameras at the rear of the device. It is those two cameras that make it possible to film in 3D.

It is hard to imagine how one feature change can transform a device into something much better – but it does. So what are those real life potential things that we spoke of above? Well this is all down to what you can record and upload to websites or watch them on a 3D capable device, such as a laptop or TV.

How many times have you wanted to view an image or video of a property on a real estate website, only to see that it looks much different in person? Now with the use of the Sprint HTC EVO 3D realtors will be able to film the footage in 3D and offer a much better representation of what that property looks like – allowing certain features to jump out at you, as if you were really there.

Another great benefit is when there is no-way that you can make it for your child’s sports day, but recording the day on the HTC EVO 3D (which will be released in the UK later this year) will make it almost as special to you. That way you will be able to sit down with your child later that day and watch as the ball looks as though it is coming right at you – now that moment is priceless.

These are just two examples of the real life potential of Sprint’s new handset, but can you think of any more?
