Two key factors when searching for a good crossover vehicle often comes down to which ones are affordable and perhaps more importantly, which crossover vehicles are the safest to drive. One such vehicle which falls under this category is the Subaru Forester, which Buzzle has labelled one of the best for 2011.

The four wheel vehicle features a 2.5 liter engine, independant suspension, 170 hp power, traction control system, antilock brakes, vehicle dynamics control, tire pressure monitoring system and much more. If you’re interested in the Subaru Forester, you’ll find it listed with a price of around $20,500.

It has been announced that Ford will be recalling 1,658 Explorers in a voluntary move.

The recall affects Explorers fitted with manual recline second row seats, according to a report on Autoblog.com. Ford Explorers which were made between July 15 and December 13 2010 are affected, with the manual recliner mechanism having components that are “out of dimensional specification”.

The NHTSA says that in the event of an accident the components may not provide the required strength to protect passengers. Ford is expected to start the recall on February 14 and replace the seats at no charge. Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

This comes as Ford officials have said they are to boost production for the US market by 13 percent according to a report on The Detroit News. Ford are also considering adding additional shifts as it tries to get sought after models such as the Explorer on to showroom floors. Ken Czubay vice president for Ford’s US marketing said “We are running flat out right now.”

Where else could they get a temperature with the humidity factor brought in at 191° Fahrenheit?

A number of upgrades had to be made so that the SUV could handle the terrain and temperatures; the main upgrade was a stronger chassis and improved suspension. Se some new interior images of the 2011 Ford Explorer in our recent post.

You would have thought that after a few hours in the sun driving across the desert then temperatures would have hit the roof, but Rex Roy from Autoblog who took the car to Dubai said that they remained in the safe zone. This is certainly special, how often have we been sitting in traffic and the instruments start going into the red in temperatures much lower than this?

Roy concludes that the 2011 Explorer is not like a traditional SUV, but will still keep most of them happy. Will you choose the new Ford Explorer or the Raptor?

Patrick Rall of the examiner.com is reporting that the familiar MyFord Touch system and the center stack which controls all the interior settings like the sound system and climate control are shown. An image showing what the middle row of seats looks like when the interior has captain’s chairs, while another image shows the second row with bench seats.

The writer of the article was concerned about the lag of leg room for passengers sitting in the last row of seats in the 2011 Explorer, but he was told by a Ford rep that when the captain’s chairs were taken as an option for the middle row they moved up and back to clear up leg room for passengers in the third row of seats.

If you missed it, we have a great video for you to watch now, giving you another close-up look at the new model, both on the inside and outside.

As reported from TFLCar, the new Ford Explorer is a unibody, front wheel drive model, which has support for a 4-wheel drive (4WD) system with no traditional locking differential.

Instead of a V8, the 2011 Ford Explorer will be offered with a 4-Cylinder, but it is still posssible to get a V6 for 4-wheel drive. With enough space for 6-7 people, it is definitely one for the family.

The video below gives us a great look inside the car, at some of the new features such as voice control. You get an introduction to the new model from members of Ford, while there is also a demo which shows the seats going down in the back.

You can start with the base version in front-wheel drive at $28,190, right up to the top of the range 4WD Limited at $39,190. For the time being you can only opt for the 3.5-liter V6 models and you have to add the $805 delivery charge on.

The Detroit automaker also said that they were working on another vehicle for law enforcement officers – we can tell you that that model is likely to be the 2011 Ford Explorer SUV.

According to Autoblog there were rumors that the new police utility vehicle was going to be the Ford Flex, but the Detroit News now believes that this was wrong. Ford is not sharing anything at the moment – not until an official announcement is made.

Detroit News states that the 2011 Ford Explorer Police SUV will have all the usual pursuit-rated specs, and will be in direct competition with the Chevrolet Tahoe, which many law-enforcement departments already use. Although this model is pursuit rated, it is only two-wheel drive – the four-wheel drive model has yet to receive that upgrade.

This could work in Ford’s favor, as police forces in certain areas will need a four-wheel drive pursuit-rated SUV. There are no details on when Ford will introduce this new vehicle, but it will help them keep a 70 percent share in the law-enforcement market.
