You may remember a couple of weeks ago we reported on Audi’s 2011 R8 Spyder V10, well Audi has launched a version for the UK with a V8 powerplant. With orders now being taken the deliveries of the first cars should be some time in January 2011.

The Spyder comes equipped with the same refinements found in the coupe, with the addition of heated electrically adjusted leather clad seats, with built in belt mounted microphones and Bluetooth connectivity. As with its V10 brother the V8 comes with the standard electro hydraulically operated roof and wind deflector.

But as with all cars at this level what we are really interested in is the engine specs, so here we go. Audi has reworked the 4.2-litre V8 to knock on the door of 424bhp at 7900rpm, giving 317lb ft of torque between 4500rpm and 6000rpm. According Audi’s technical team 90 percent its torque is available from 3000rpm and again when you need it most between 6000rpm and 7500rpm, so this should make overtaking in this car breathtaking.

With performance figures of 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 186mph this car is by no means a slouch, and that’s the same figures whether you choose the standard six-speed manual or the £5310 option six-speed S tronic automated manual transmission.

So there you have it, if you don’t have enough for the V10 Spyder then there is always the option of the V8 for just £95,545. What will be your choice?

Jonathon Ramsey from Autoblog has been able to do something that many of us could only dream of, and that was the chance to test drive the 2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder. He was so overjoyed with the experience that he decided to put it into words and offer a review.

In the review he looks at the fact that Audi call it a supercar, and how it was able to shed the sports car label. The Spyder version of the popular R8 is different, as it has no roof, meaning that you will not only feel the wind in your hair – if you have any – but also hear the sound of that sweet V10. That 5.2-liter engine pumps out 520 horsepower and goes from 0-60 in just 3 seconds and will reach a top speed of 195mph.

At first glance you will be forgiven for thinking that you are looking at the current version, but Audi has made a few subtle changes. One great feature that will bring a smile to your face and those around you is that you can lower the roof while driving at speeds of up to 31 mph, and it all takes just 19 seconds.

The 2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder cost $161,000, $170,000 if you want the R Tronic option. Ramsey said that having to give the keys back was unfair, but I have to say that so is that price. For a full review visit Autoblog.
