With Bluetooth connectivity becoming the norm in a large majority of production cars these days, the fact that we can step into a car and access our phone book, take calls and receive texts has now become almost second nature. However the integration of other devices into your transport is still relatively new.

Back at the end of last month we reported on BMW’s iPad docking system on display at the Paris Motor Show. Well not happy being left behind, Mercedes has introduced it’s own version. Mounting to the headrests the rear seat passenger can dock their iPad allowing it to be operated and charged.

Whether it’s for business use while your chauffeur gets on with the menial task of driving, or just something to entertain the children on those long journeys, integration of iPad for your car can only be the start of things to come. Engadgets only concern was the safety aspect, as the positioning of the device is in line with the passengers head, is the iPad’s screen crash tested for this type of application?

I’m sure these issues have or will be addressed, and with more and more manufacturers using Apple devices as selling points to their range, it wont be long before we are reporting on the next evolution of in-car entertainment.

Sitting on the Renault stand next to the Twizy that we recently reported on, was another concept EV vehicle that we covered a couple of months ago. Called the Dezir, this all-electric model has some crazy looks that could certainly turn heads if it drove down the street, (obviously being electric you wouldn’t hear it coming).

Style wise the Dezir’s designers threw out the rule book and went for a ultra-wide, low, aggressive stance with wild reverse-hinged butterfly doors. To go with the space aged looks comes the latest trend for fully electric powered vehicles.

While the performance doesn’t quite match the concepts from Jaguar with its C-X75 or Audi’s e-tron, power for the Dezir is said to be around 150hp, with 166lb ft of torque. This still provides the Renault with a 0-60 mph time of around five seconds. But rather than stand around talking about who’s EV car is faster than who’s, lets just check out the pictures of this crazy looking car via Autoblog.

To celebrate its 75th birthday, Jaguar showed off at the Paris Motor Show with their C-X75 concept. The world famous car manufacturer released the EREV electric supercar as a change to their normal sedan and coupe range.

Set to be one of the stars at the show, the C-X75 is powered by a four electric motors giving a combined 780-horsepower along with 1,600 Nm of torque. This massive power gives the C-X75 a impressive top speed of over 200mph and a 0-62 time of 3.4 seconds.

Other features include a thermic motor installed to recharge the batteries, and a range extender motor formed by a micro gas turbine that produces 80,000 rpm to give a range of 900 km. Running on purely electric propulsion, the electric supercar can manage 110 km from a full charge of six hours.

Surely this is the sort of power that could convince your average petrol head to electric? Check out Eurocarblog for more pictures of Jaguars C-X75 concept.

We reported recently on the Lotus Elite Concept, due for unveiling at this weeks Paris Motor Show. Well while we were obviously expecting to see this and possibly a second, if not a third concept from the famous sports car manufacturer. Lotus surprised us all by pulling the covers off five new vehicles.

According to Autoblog, Dany Bahar CEO of Lotus, announced that the company was entering a new era. The cars unveiled show that Lotus has revitalised its entire range, revealed were Esprit, Elan, Elite, Elise and Eterne concepts. This new range will be set to take on the large players such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin.

One things for certain the styling of the new concepts lend themselves to the sports car market, although some may say that Lotus should stick to what they know in building ultra light weight road cars. Is there the right space in the market for Lotus to be taken seriously against such competition as Italian giants Ferrari?

Whatever way you look at it this is a big step for Lotus and only time will tell as to whether they can hold their own in such established company. For now though head over to Autoblog for a gallery of pictures of each of the new concepts.

With Peugeot unveiling its all new 508 at the Paris Motor Show this week, the French auto manufacturer also released a new concept vehicle into the spotlight. Named the HR1, Peugeot designers claim that there are elements from the city car, coupe and SUV philosophies to get the final look of this hybrid.

Powering the HR1 is a 1.2-litre, three cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine driving the front wheels. Out the back a 37-horsepower electric unit drives the rear wheels, both powertrains are connected by a six-speed automatic transmission. Petrol engine and electric motor work independently of each other classing the HR1 as a through-the-road hybrid.

According to the manufacturer, with the combined units producing “potential power” of 147bhp, the fuel consumption should be around 67 mpg or 3.5 litres per 100 kilometres.

As yet there are no plans to bring this unusual looking hybrid into production, but it wouldn’t surprise us to see elements of the HR1 in future designs from Peugeot. For more pictures check out Autoblog.

The 2010 Paris Motor Show is now well under way and a number of cars have already been unveiled, such as the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept, and the Kia Pop Concept. Sticking with the small vehicle theme is the Renault Twizy, which is a little like a scooter but with increased safety.

The Twizy was shown only in design at last years show, so is nice to see a production model of the concept vehicle. Unlike a scooter, the Renault Twizy can carry two occupants, which they have to sit in tandem as if they were on a bike.

According to Autocar, the new Twizy has a 20bhp electric motor offers a top speed of 47mph, which is certainly faster than most scooters on the road.

Renault claims that the EV is good for 60 miles making it perfect for those who have to commute to the city – just make certain that you do not live more than 60 miles return journey. The cost of the Twizy is expected to be around £6000.

After a lot of teasing from the supercar manufacturer, we have finally been able to clamp our eyes on the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept. Unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the build up to this highly anticipated hypercar has been electric.

Such an big entrance doesn’t take away from the fact that this Lambo has a lot to live up to. With a family tree consisting of the Muira, Countach, Diablo, Murcielago not forgetting the little brother Gallardo and the crazy Reventon, Lamborghini had to produce something spectacular.

Will we see the Sesto Elemento rolling out of the Italian workshops? Who knows all we can do now is enjoy the pictures and wait for more information.

Porsche have revealed a limited-edition Speedster for 2011 based on their famous 911. With the new car debuting alongside their 911 Carrera GTS at the Paris Motor Show, Porsche’s latest offering is displayed in French Racing Blue.

With a limited run of 356 being produced the chances are that the 911 Speedster will be sold out before the end of the show.

Merging styling cues from the original Porsche 356 Speedster, and power from the flat-six engine pushing the limits of 408bhp, it could be safe to say that any potential owner will be more than happy. Hit the link below to see more pictures of this limited edition 911.

Over the past few years both Kia and Hyundai has been designing cars that are less boxy and more groundbreaking, and the Kia Pop concept is certainly proof of that. We know that this is still only a concept, but it has certainly turned a few heads at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

We first learned of the cars existence in August, but back then we did not have much to go in. We can now tell you that the Kia Pop electric vehicle measures just three meters and only has three seats for the driver and two passengers.

You can clearly see by the images over at AutoBlog that the entire roof is made from glass, this allows you to see that funky interior. The panel along with the display readouts is to be made from transparent OLED – if the EV makes it to production that is.

The Kia Pop as you know is an electric vehicle, so will have a limited range of just 100 miles, but will have a top speed of 87mph. For more details on this ore more visit our 2010 Paris Motor Show page.

Audi are using this years Paris Motor Show to debut their Audi Quattro Concept, the car has been designed to celebrate 30 years of Audi’s Quattro performance. Over the years the auto manufacturer has seen great success with their Quattro brand, from World Championship winning rally cars onto blistering road cars. The name Quattro is synonymous with power and performance.

Their latest concept hints styling features from the old Quattro rally cars with squared of angles, bulging arches and aggressive looks. Powered by a five-cylinder, 408bhp turbocharged unit, driving all four wheels through a six speed manual gearbox. With a power-to-weight ratio matching the Audi R8 5.2 FSI should make this Quattro a really exciting drive.

Hopefully we can get some more information on the new concept once the show really gets underway. Until then check out the link below to see more pictures of Audi’s Quattro Concept.
