The moment has finally arrived. Four years since Italy beat France to lift the World Cup in Germany, we now have another great final in prospect to look forward to in Spain Vs Holland. We have some of your Twitter predictions to share with you now, including a prediction from a very famous Octopus.

Paul the Octopus as he is now known, has become a cult hero around the world, after ‘correctly’ predicting World Cup results throughout the tournament. It appears that he was right yesterday too, since he correctly predicted that his home country Germany would defeat Uruguay and claim third place.

You’ll be interested to know that the Octopus has now gone on to tip Spain to lift the trophy later today, ahead of Holland – you can check out the prediction video here.

As for your predictions, we have found a place where you’ll be able to view fans predictions on Twitter. You can visit the page here and read the various score predictions for the game. I think this is too close to call, but I think Spain will do it.

Have you posted your World Cup prediction on Twitter yet? Let us know what you think.

We have reported recently about the amount of traffic Twitter has been getting with the 2010 FIFA World Cup taking place. Recently the site broke records with the amount of messages being sent after Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics in the seventh game of the NBA Finals.

David Murphy over at PCMAG.com is reporting that the Laker victory brought with it 3,085 Tweets-Per-Second (TPS). But this record did not last long as various World Cup games came close to this record, then on Thursday with the game between Japan and Denmark the record was broke again.

Twitter have said that users sent an average of 3,283 TPS by the time the game had finished and Japan had reached the final sixteen. Recently Twitter has been improving their background operations to handle the increased data during the tournament.

Earlier this month they said that they were going to rebalance its network traffic to avoid site downtime, and double its internal network capacity.

There has been outrage today following the 2010 World Cup match between Brazil and the Ivory Cost – not because of the score but why the ref sent Kaka off. This was totally unjust, so much so that the social media world has reacted to this shocking decision.

Kaka – regarded as one of the best football players in the world had to be sent off, as it was his second yellow of the match. He was seen to push Abdelkader Keita, to the ground, but it was the exaggeration of the impact that has caused Facebook and Twitter users to get angry.

Keita grabbed his face in anger, even though he was hit in the chest. We are uncertain why the ref sent Kaka off – especially as he did not even see the altercation.

Some of the comments on Twitter says it all, with many asking if FIFA will revoke the red card decision – although we are not certain that they can. What did you think of Kaka’s sending off?

With the ongoing FIFA World Cup Twitter has experienced severe load and downtime, this has resulted in Twitter announcing they are to postpone a complete switch to OAuth dubbed the – OAuthcalypse – by one and half months.

Ben Parr from website Mashable.com is reporting that currently there are two different ways to connect to Twitter apps. The first is basic authentication where a user has to provide their password and username. The second way is OAuth where users hand out “tokens” instead of account data.

Twitter originally intended to stop the use of basic authentication on June 30th, and provided a countdown clock so application developers would be ready for the event. With all the problems Twitter has now decided to move back OAuth until a full month after the World Cup ends to August 16th, with the switch to be complete by August 31st.

As you would expect the 2010 FIFA World Cup has sparked an increase in the amount of football inspired apps for smartphones – with the iPhone having the most thanks to Apple’s App Store. We have discussed a few of these in the past; we thought we would revisit some of the best so far.

The first is the Official England App For UK Fans, we would have assumed that this iPhone application would have been downloaded a huge amount of times before the game on Saturday – not certain how popular it is at the moment. Anyway, this app is just for keeping up-to-date with the England squad and how far they progress.

Another is Total Football 2010 and is for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Once you download and install this app you will then be able to analyze all 64 games of the 2010 World Cup.

Then there is iTeam 1.2 for iPhone and allows you to organize player stats, venues and much more from the tournament. We are certain that team managers will use this app to help keep a closer eye on the strengths and weaknesses of other players.

One of the best apps has to be from ESPN, this is perfect to get you closer to the game as you will be able to watch live streaming online of each match.

These are just some of the 2010 FIFA World Cup apps available, what’s yours?

We are now well into the 2010 FIFA World Cup and there are a number of ways in which fans have been enjoying watching the largest sporting event – such as on their TV, online streaming or direct to your smartphone. However, whatever way you view each game there is one main problem – hearing any commentary. This is because of Vuvuzelas and the huge amount of noise that fans make with them.

These are plastic trumpets and have become very popular with fans, taking over the role of air horns. The downside is that the air never runs out with these instruments. This does affect the game, with FOX Sports fearing that they are deafening other fans and the players themselves – maybe this is why some of the first games have been half-hearted?

We have learned that Danny Jordaan, head of the World Cup organizing committee has not ruled out banning vuvuzelas. Broadcasting companies have been the most vocal about a possible ban, as they fear that viewers are unable to hear a word of their commentary.

Those who have been taking these plastic trumpets to games feel that it is in the spirit of the game, but I am certain that a person standing near the noisy end of one would disagree. The issue is not just during the football matches; fans going back home or to their hotels after the game can be heard playing them in the early hours of the morning.

Do you think that Vuvuzelas should be banned from the 2010 World Cup?

With just under two hours to go before the England vs. USA World Cup 2010 kickoff why not spend some time to geek out a little. But before your start to have some fun we just hope that England players and fans will not think beating the American team will be a breeze.

There are two things going against the England squad at the moment, they have a number of injured players and the U.S.A team has been playing very well. So that’s the serious side out of the way, now it is time to have some fun.

There are a number of apps available for your iPhone to not only allow you to keep up-to-date with all things World Cup, but also watch live stream videos and the latest scores and results as they happen.

Some of the best apps include: ESPN 2010 FIFA World Cup app, South Africa 2010 Tracker, World Cup Factoids and History, iSouth Africa 2010 and many more. There are more available, but these would have to be the best of the bunch.

There are also some amazing websites that offers a fan interaction, these include: ESPN Soccer, Football365 and The Guardian World Cup Fans Network, which we discussed in a previous post.

For all the links to these apps and websites read Mike Butcher’s article on Tech Crunch

The FIFA World Cup 2010 is now in its second day and there are so many sources on the Internet for you to stay up-to-date with all the latest news – such as live information streams with The Guardian’s Fan Network. This service needs the help of you to make it such a great site.

The Guardian thought what better way to offer a World Cup site than by allowing readers to rate players after each match. Not only that, when fans send in their photos the best ones will then be published in the Guardian and Observer newspapers the following day.

There is even a cool interactive word map, so you will be able to see graphically after each game where the Tweets are coming in live from twitter. To find out what supporters are saying across the globe then visit The Guardian’ Fans Network.

To get the most from the 2010 World Cup, you should visit the main hub for all things World Cup on The Guardian. You can read all the latest Fan’s Blog from each country after they have played, along with all the photos from each match. Visit the site now via the link above.

Today is the second day of the World Cup 2010 and later will be the USA vs. England match. If you are a true fan then you will not want to be without the official England app, which is exclusive to the iPhone. You had best get onto Apple’s App Store now ahead of the big match so that you can do a head-to-head comparison of both teams.

This app offers all the latest news from the England squad, as well as stats, live fixtures, exclusive videos, profiles of each player, archive footage, a special fanzone and so much more. And remember from June 21, 2010 there will be push notifications with the release of iOS 4 for the iPHone 3GS and iPhone 4.

The app has been given mixed reviews on the App Store, one saying that it was great but could do with kick off time. Another review was not so nice, saying that you would expect more from the FA and that sections of the application does not work. For more details visit Apple’s App Store

Before you watch the match later today you should read an article on LA Times written by Grahame L. Jones. This offers you a great insight of the England and USA team before kick off.

The World Cup 2010 is well underway and if you are not near a TV then there are a number of ways where you can keep up with all the events. One of the best ways to view matches if you are on the move is either with FLO TV – more information here – or ESPN Mobile TV.

The service will allow you to watch the 2010 World Cup live as it happens, you can even use this service to get all the latest news – or you can choose to use the ESPN iPhone app, which we reported in a recent post. This does show that if you want to get the best from the 2010 World Cup, then ESPN offers the best service.

Some of the key features to ESPN Mobile TV include: Live TV that is optimized for your smartphone, up to the minute news and so much more. ESPN is not the only ones to offer this kind of service, we mentioned FLO TV above, but there are so many more.

To get access to ESPN Mobile TV you will need to pay a monthly fee, more information on this can be found on their website.
