Palm only just gave the public a Palm Pre first look at the CES 2009, this is its latest entry for the smartphone battle. Palm did not give a price or release date.
The Palm Pre looks great, has a touchscreen and runs on Microsoft’s OS Palm’s new webOS but will have to do battle with phones like the Apple iPhone and RIM Blackberry. Does anyone have tips on it’s price or release date?
The new Palm Pre does not run windows mobile. It is palm’s new webOS.
Actually the Palm Pre DOES NOT run on a Microsoft Operating System. It would be a a piece of c rap if it did. Palm created a new OS, called WebOS, designed for a phone to use web services in an innovative new way. Go to gizmodo.com for real information.
The WebOS is a linux based OS with a palm UI written in HTML, CSS, and Java. Its NOT windows mobile

i was told by a sprint sales man that it comes out at beginning of february.
It would be good for sprint if it comes out sooner than latter but its due to come out mid 09 witch is like May or June. If your info came from a saleman you have a better chance asking someone on the street. Those salesmen don’t know anything. Hell I knew about the phone b4 the salemen at my local store

I work for sprint and the release date is still not finalised. All we have heard and have been told to tell people is it will be out by Second Quarter 2009 (meaning april to june 2009)

Quarters are 3 months each… 1st quarter would then be Jan. Feb. and March….

sprint get exclusive rights for six months to sell 1 million copys only in the united states but it will have a gsm version in europe that will work on gsm phones so there will the phone that could be unlocked.. so dont get your hopes up sprint already has 374 thousand calls in the month of jan. to find out wha or when it will come out. stop by your sprint store salesman say it will be around $700 with out a contract but there is no official word on that but that is the sum of what they have said remember this isnt a exclusive deal like blackberry storm or iphone. sprint only gets six months. Iphone only sold 1 million phones in 3 weeks when it came out. Know that apple employies have moved to palm to make the PRE. lets see how it does since the main techs that built the iphone are know with palm

I heard there was about 300,000 calls about the Palm Pre and if sprint can sell 1,000,000 phones in six months palm will keep the phone exclusive on sprint and it will only come out in europe 6 months to a company that sprint is buying out that carries gsm phones with 4g in russia

And all of you who don’t know who many months are in a quarter, do you really think you’re smart enough to have any type of phone. A year consist of 12 months devide that by 4 and you get 3. I guess means there are 3 months in a quater. :-O God I hope this phone comes out soon, and I hope it has a calculater on it. Some of you are really gonna need it.
I just spoke to Sprint and they HAVE NOT set a release date. No information has been given to anyone yet. Once they do set a release date, it will be all over the Sprint and Palm websites.

That’s bull… Sprint reps always say they don’t know the release dates of things email them, call the store, call customer service, whatever! Unless you have someone deep, deep inside in the know, we all kno as much as a bum on the street! … the most realistic thing i heard was during Q3.

per sprint higher ups release date will be may 15. no price point. sprint will be testing the device starting next month.
I was told by a sprint rep today (1/26/09) that the palm pre was going to be released on February 15th. Many reps told me the same thing trough e-chat so I guess it will be the official release date.
I am going to be the 1st one to get the PRE…Someone ask me how is that…b/c I know the manager at Sprint store and they are the busiest store in Chicago

In responce to Diego’s post, i have also heard that the PRE will be release on Feb 15, 2009 from a sprint rep at an Atlanta stoor.

I love the idea of a February release, but I wish they would hard date it for us so I can decide if I wanna wait or go ahead with the G-1 (not so crazy about T-Mobile, but the G-1 phone is way better than most touch screens out there).
As far as quarters go…people not in the corporate business world should really shut up already. Your only confusing people who really want to know, and your guesswork is likely way off base.
A quarter is 1/4th which is to say, one of four equal parts, for example…there are four quarters in a dollar. Although, different than a shiny quarter being 25 cents, a business quarter is not 25 days!
Business quarters do not always start on the first day of the month, and the first quarter does not always start in January.
Some schools start their fiscal first quarter in September, while some corporations will start their fiscal year first quarter in February after the W-2’s have been calculated.
So realistically the first quarter for Palm Inc, and the release of the Pre may actually be as early as Feb, and as late as April.
That’s my 25 cents worth.

Well, I just found out that the Pre will be out on Feb. 15. but, in Canada. It would of been a great Valentine gift for me if the Pre comes out here in the U.S. instead. But, I guess I’ll wait for the first half or a quarter of 2009 when the new Palm Pre hits stores. I wonder if Sprint would sell it on the Net before their in stores. Does anyone know?
“uhhhh” well it would have ment a lot that the treo pro came out january 27th, but seems like sprint isnt even selling the treo pro on its websites and best buys selling the unlocked version so most likely the treo pro is coming out on the 15th of february (dont quote me on it) and the pre some time this first half of the year. doesnt make sense for the pre and treo pro to come out on the 15th at the same time. dont count on the pre coming out on the 15th. i was hoping the pro came out in january so that the pre would come out in february which would have been more likely but now my hopes are all up. im not going to bother to check to see when the pre comes out since first half means 1 month to 5 months from now

well this is coming from a store salesperson yet again, but I heard two days ago that official release will be feb 22, 2009… for whatever its worth, same person stated price of 549.99 with no contract, note that that doesn’t mean unlocked, just with no contract renewal thru sprint…also don’t forget the htc touch diamond AND htc touch pro released within 30 days of each other on sprint, so I wouldn’t base too much off of the PRO’s official sprint release

Do you really “need” to know? It will be released when it is released. It is not a “magic switch” to make your life better. It seems like a nice phone and I am very interested in it myself, but I do not “need” it.
I “need” food, shelter, and friends/family. I expect this is what you need, too.
I just spoke (via online chat ) with Leah who said “The release date has been postponed, and no release date is set as of now”. When I asked her if she had any ideas she said she couldn’t imagine it being too much longer. But when I asked if that meant a week, a month, or 6 months she said she “didn’t know”. It scares me that they don’t have a date yet and or keep moving it back. Does anyone know why that would be? Since they had one to demonstrate at the electronics show I would assume that means the technology is ready and judging from al the buzz and questions about the release date, obviously there is a demand for it. So why the hold up?
The phone will be released on April 31,2009. That is the release date as of now and barring further notice, 50000000 will be in stock on that day in every sprint store in America.

The Palm Treo Pro will be released at the end of Feb or first week of March. The Pal pre is lookign to be released around April or may. this is per a Sprint Operator.

i really need to get rid of my phone and switch away from Tmobile. I really like Tmobile, but I HATE my freaking phone. The only reason i want to move to Sprint is the Everything Plan for $99/month and the Palm Pre. I was told today that it will come out the last week of February or first week of March. I sure as heck hope it does, because my current phone is driving me nuts!!!!!

Palm Pre phones were actually supposed to go on sale February 12. Due to some problems with parts of the phone, it has been delayed for 2 weeks. Expected release date is now on February 27. At the latest, release date will be March 6. Either way, the Palm Pre is coming!!!

I also talked to a Sprint rep last night and they also mentioned a June release. Oh well….
I have a Palm Centro and I love it. I also love that it is only $399.99 at Sprint. Palm and Sprint should get together and plan on a price similar to that.
I went to the store today and the Sales Rep mentioned the Palm Pre should be in the stores no later than March 15.

Well I talked to a Sprint representative last night and she said “not for a few months.”
I asked her to define a “few” and she said either late may or June.
But supposedly that’s is what they are told to say. Hopefully they’re just being “told” to say this and it will come out earlier. But why wait? The new iPhone is coming out in June and they are already behind. So they must be releasing it early enough for people to be like oh my goodness and forget about the new iPhone and/or get this instead of the iPhone.
There seems to be a lot of speculation as to when the Palm Pre will be released and the truth is that nobody knows when it will come out. It’ll probably get a date and then have it pushed back. my close friend is a major player in cnet, chances are you have seen him on tv…lets just say he knows 5 people who already have the pre…it will be released march 15 according to his sources and some dude named boy genius…he has actually held and operated the phone and he says its amazing…smashes that crappy iphone…its coming soon
On 24 Feb 09, a Sprint rep said the Palm Pre’s release date is slated for 15 Mar 09. They didn’t know the expected price, but guestimated around $500 due to the power packed features of the phone. I told them that if the price of the phone is not at least equivalent to, or lower then the price of the IPhone, then palm could keep that “Golden Goose”. The features and style appear to be great, but if Palm is going to force people to take out a second mortgage just to purchase the phone, then they are making a big mistake in this economic environment, because the banks aren’t lending and the money trees in the back yard aren’t producing.
Even if Palm offered the phone for $250 - $299, with a 2-year contract, they will still make a good profit within a year and put Apple (IPhone) on notice. I hope they learned from the mistake Sony made with the PS3’s initial cost of $700-$800, which backfired in their face and caused more people to purchase a lower priced XBOX360 instead.
P.S. - I can not mention the rep’s name. I think the release date is a secret, and I don’t want them to get fired. There’s enough of that going on already.

March 15 is the release of the Palm Pro not the Treo Pre. Credible leaked memo notes indicate final testing not beginning til April. That means release in May or more probably June.
the palm PRO will be debuting on march 15th now. i highly doubt the pre will come out on march 15th as well, that wouldn’t be smart. my guess is june, hopefully they come through for us!
OOOOOOoooohhhh Matt I hope you are right. But that is like 17 days away. Don’t we usually hear about release dates months before the actual product comes out? And Even then it’s usually pushed back. I mean Im excited but I don’t want to get my hopes to high just too be disappointed. I mean I pray that it is MArch 15th. My wild guess would be April 30th. Its plenty of time to get everything ready and plenty of time to sell before any new smartphones/iPhones. But March 15th would be amazing!
im with you, it seems too close to be true…the eod list says that the pre will be released on march 15 so i believe thats where they got that date from…i even mentioned to him that it seems too soon and he just said that they could release it any time they wanted, its ready…i guess they are just waiting for the exact right moment…i have the centro and i hate it, i need the pre bad…my friend knows some high up people and he hasnt been wrong yet so i just hope he’s right about this too

well anyways. if its March 15th they have to announce it within the next two days. If not…then hello extra exruciating wait until June!
I would prefer they dot all the Is and cross all the Ts before they release it, even if that means waiting till June. The Instinct has been great in sales but a HUGE disappointment to own. I am nearly 8 months in and they still have no fixed some of the more glaring issues with that phone.

I would prefer a happy medium. obviously if there are major issues, like with the blackberry when you wouldnt receive texts until you turned the phone off and completely on, then they should fix it. but if they are minor issues….unless the phones extra expensive. if it is I would rather wait until its perfect. But how long is that?
Its obviously not March 15th because that is now too close. But June is so far away. I mean I check info on it every day. I guess stopping that would help. But. I mean high end people have had the PRE for a while now. If there was anything wrong they would have told Palm and they would have fixed it by now. I guess now its just all up to when to release it to make the most money.
I have been hearing that the pre wont be released until June. I am hoping that its better than my Instinct. Though many phones have been compared to the Iphone, none really can touch its ease of use and functionality. That Iphone really rocks. I picked up a second generation Iphone a few weeks ago, and it really beats up my Instinct. Sprint never came out with the updates to fix the phones, and its rather limited. If the price of the Pre is to high, I am sure people will jump ship to ATT with the new Iphone supposedly coming out in June. my instinct is average at what it does, but hopefully the Pre will do IMing,MS Office type stuff etc.
My girlfriend wants me to switch to Sprint so I had her ask the guys at the Sprint store when the pre was coming out…they said, “March 15th, or at least that’s what they tell us.”
The pre will be out on March 1st, 2009. (please ignore the date this was posted because it was really posted Feb 15).
Christmas has been changed to September 12 and Thanksgiving will be October 2.
The Fourth of July will be celebrated on the 6th of July!

Well, I spoke with one of the customer service and she is waiting for the Pre also. So, from what I know, no one knows when the new Palm Pre comes out but the people who advertized it and God lol .
I spoke today with a sprint rep and she told me that they are going to release the palm PRO on march 15 not the palm pre. I doubt they would release both at the same time. I assume they will release it 1-2 months later.
ugh. Why would they wait until June? are they just trying to build up tha buzz about it? If they wait too long they might lose a few people. And if it was still march 15th they would have announced it since that’s only 10 days away…
Ok so now I have had to Sprint reps tell me the same thing. One was anonymous and one was a friend of mine. They both saud that corporate Sprint had set the release date to March 15th, but pushed it back to March 25th. Hopefully this is the case. THey both had also said that it will be out waaaaay before June that if not in March then definitely by April 16th.
Palm’s blog is announing the pro as to be realeased 3/16.
This IS as official as it can be… so good bye to any hopes of the pre being released in march.
