E3 2009 Winner: Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo?
June 3, 2009
With the Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony E3 press conferences all wrapped up, focus now switches to opinions on ‘Which company had the best showing?’ All three had huge announcements to reveal, so what are your thoughts on this?
Let’s start off with Microsoft. No doubt that their biggest announcement was Project Natal. No-one had ever seen that kind of technology before and it left everyone wanting more. Secondly, was the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the Xbox 360. Thirdly and by no means least important, after a showing of Halo 3: ODST, there was a reveal for a brand new Halo game titled Halo: Reach.
As for Nintendo, they unveiled their Wii Vitality Sensor which attaches to your fingertip and can measure your pulse and vital body stats. Then, there was announcements for Wii Fit Plus, Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Bros. Wii and an awesome looking new Metroid game developed by Team Ninja.
Sony’s conference took place last of the three and they had some interesting details to reveal too. Sadly, most of Sony’s announcements were leaked before E3, so it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when they were revealed. These included PSP Go!, PS3 Motion Control ( Although we saw it in the flesh for the first time) and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for Sony PSP.
We had already heard rumors on an upcoming MMO from Square-Enix, but no-one expected it to be Final Fantasy XIV and a PS3 exclusive on top. There was also news on another PS3 exclusive from Rockstar titled ‘Agent’, an all-new Resident Evil game designed for the PSP Go!, Gran Turismo PSP details, God of War III details, MAG details and a confirmation of Lost Planet 2 on the PS3.
So that’s all the top stories so far from this year’s E3, links galore. We say so far, as the event is still ongoing and there may be more announcements to come.
Who do you think has had the best E3 and why? State your reasons below.
