Rupert Murdoch not happy as Facebook overtakes MySpace

Just a year and a half ago MySpace was the biggest social network site on the net, and Rupert Murdoch was a happy guy as he purchased the site 3-years ago for $580m. Now Murdoch’s smile has been wiped from his face as it seems that Facebook have now overtaken them for the first time.
In May Facebook had 123m unique visitors; this is an increase of 162% to May’s figures of last year. These figures were provided by Comscore. MySpace only managed to bring in 114.6m uniques, there visitors are only growing by a 5% since May 2007.
This is very significant for Facebook as this is the first time that they have overtaken MySpace, in April both the social network sites were neck and neck. Murdoch has said “Facebook has done a great job of being flavour of the month the last six months of last year.” He also believes that Facebook is not a real social network, but “just a directory”.
Just a few years back MySpace was the biggest thing around, but when Facbook came on the scene things started to go a little wrong for MySpace. Many people preferred how much simpler it was to work Facebook; many believed that MySpace was too complicated to work and was a bit on the cluttered side. Founder of MySpace, Tom, has realized this and has been working hard on a new interface and is very happy with the results.
Tom, now believes that the new and improved MySpace will be easier to use, and hopes to become the most popular social network site once again.
